Packard bell SLP installation, without oem cd's..

Recommended Posts

Hi to all...

I own a Packard bell notebook with a windows XP MCE 2005 license stiker on the bottom, but i've lost the original cd's, and now the hard disk has failed, so i must reinstall the os without having the cd.

I've seen that there are some trick to convert a normal xp mce cd to SLP, but every time the cd will not work...

I've read something about oembios files, but i wasn't able to find a complete guide to made the slp cd from a normal xp mce 2005 cd...

Someone can help me to use my legitimate version of xp?

Really thanks!

Hi,

Even if you had the origional Packard Bell Installation or Recovery CD/DVD's for Windows you may still find it fails to install.

Packard Bell PC's often use a technique called "Tattoing" to mark the hard drive with special additional information to ensure you cannot install a Packard Bell version of Windows onto another PC.

If you replace the hard drive with a new one (because the old one failed for example) the Packard Bell Installation or Recovery CD/DVD may not work without the tattoing in place on the new drive. Packard Bell is often reluctant to release information on how to tattoo a new hard drive; however a Google search may find useful information on this.

Personally I would source a set of generic Windows XP MCE 2005 install disks and use the licence key on the product sticker to get this PC up and running again.

Kind Regards

Simon

Hi!

First of all... Thanks for the prompt answer!

I've already tryied to install an xp mce 2005 oem cd and use the code on the bottom, but it not work!

Reading on the net, i've seen that SLP systems have all an unique product key serial used for the installation, different from the one on the bottom.

I've read that this is normal on SLP systems, that have 'something' in the bios to activate the copy.

Any suggestion?

Thanks!

Ever used Google?

Nope, never heard of Google!

Packard Bell essentially disappeared from every store everywhere 10 years ago in all of North America so I thought they must have died (nobody wanted to buy their junk at any price). I was just expressing my surprise, I didn't need a course on how to use a search engine, heh.

Little addition:
