damian666
hi guys, i hope someone can help me with this, i am getting pretty desperate at the moment last week, i bought a pc via the net, from a guy...now please note that i am not really in the dark about pc's, so i went to this guys house, and checked this pc out.it looked like a real speed monster, pentium 4, hyperthreading, 3.40 ghz.and a lot of other numbers and s***, which are in the attached everest report.it worked great that first week, i was very hapy with it but then came my girl, and asked me to check her mp3 on my pc.which i did, **** i did it froze after a half hour or so, and from that point on, it keeps doing that.now whenever i do stuff, like plugging in or out my usb sticks, it will hang in 15 minutes.the weird part is that it does not hang right away...so i began trouble shooting, tried not to put in or take out any usb thingies.still a hang.also when i put in a usb device, my usb wireless network adapter gets trown out.and when i dl and browse, it would hang too.so i think its my usb, i reinstalled windows, freah install, the same thing.trouble shooting is not really working, because i cant seem to reproduce it, its different everytime.my cpu and gpu are totally to hot imho, so i ordered a new case with a great side fan , led lighted and i hope it wil take out some more heat.but still, it hangs on me.psu is 450 output watts, which is normal i think, pci-e nvidia card of 256 ram.1 gig of new ram, and a new hdd of 500 gig.at the moment, i really dont have a clue left.so please check out the report i will attach and help me please Damian666Report.zip
puntoMX
Start to check the lines of the front USB ports. Are the ports on the back okay? If not it could be a faulty mobo or PSU. To swap the PSU would be the easy way to test it.
damian666
yeah, i thought about that i will see if i can test it, but i dont have a great enough psu yet...anymore ideas guys?thanx in advanceDamian666
joe43wv
I say pull out all your cards you have attached and/or disable all onboard ports except the essentials, video, mouse, keyboard, then test for a little while and see if it hangs, if it doesn't then add the devices back one at a time and test until it starts to hang again then more than likely you've found the culprit. damian666
yeah, good idae, to bad i dont have any other cards in there except my videocard.i did try to open my case, to see if the temp was teh thing that was it.because the temp of my cpu is 61!!!much to high, but my fan is spinning fast, so i dont get it, maybe its the hot weather?very strange...Damian666
Zxian
Check the thermal paste. If my hunch is correct, it has dried up and changed shape - causing it to separate from the CPU and the heatsink. I think that your CPU is probably throttling itself to keep it from burning out.Pull off the heatsink and reapply some good fresh thermal paste. CoffeeFiend
Looks like a poor airflow problem.my cpu and gpu are totally to hot imho, so i ordered a new case with a great side fan , led lighted and i hope it wil take out some more heat.Side fans don't tend to really help much actually. Which case did you order?it looked like a real speed monster, pentium 4, hyperthreading, 3.40 ghzThat's not a speed monster by any stretch of the imagination. It's not even dual core. A $37 Celeron 430 is faster without even overclocking it (and they're good overclockers). You can get dual core CPUs for as low as $50, and quad core CPUs like the Q6600 for $200 nowadays. As for the GeForce 6600, a $135 Bfg GeForce 8800GT OC runs circles around it. Even a $48 860GT would be significantly faster.Edit: not trying to put you down, just saying it's not really fast by today's standards, that's all. damian666
lol, but then you dont know what pc i had before man trust me, its a speed monster for me i never had anything higher then a 1ghz cpu, so you can imagine how that feels right?and its nice to see you can spend so much money on stuff, but i cant man.i dont have the extra 50 for a decent cpu, let alone for a dual core, oh, and they are way more expensive here too man.so please stop putting me down, its a speedmonster for me Damian666 Edited June 25, 2008 by damian666
