CooledComputer Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 is there a patch or a file that i can apply to the disc that allows 48-bit LBA out of the box (so to speak)?
adamt Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 As per: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305098You need-A computer with a 48-bit LBA-compatible Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) installed. An HDD larger than 137GbThe EnableBigLba registry key to be set to 1 in:HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\ParametersWindows 2000 SP3 or higherRead the whole KB though, as there's some gotchas about data integrity using the EnableBigLBA key (especially if you go backing out the change). If by 'out of the box' you mean - works straight away after the OS is deployed, well - you'll need to slipstream SP3 or SP4 to your install, and set the registry key at some point in the build.
Kelsenellenelvian Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Actually the unofficial SP5 cures all of these issues and more...http://tracker.ryanvm.net/detail?id=59 <-- Torrent linkForum section http://www.msfn.org/board/Hotstream-f130.htmlIt will bring your system fairly upto date and if you follow Kurt Austs guide in the forum section you can fully update it!!!

CooledComputer Posted June 24, 2008 Author Posted June 24, 2008 so what you sating is that if i slipstream the unofficial sp5 into my w2k cd it'll work on installation?
Martin H Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 Yes.Btw, hfslip automatically* adds 48-bit LBA support into the very beginning of the Win2k setup while also slipstreaming all the post-SP4 updates into the install source...*It just needs 'reg.exe' from the Win2k CD(SUPPORT\TOOLS\SUPPORT.CAB) placed into the HFTOOLS folder, or into their own '%windir%\system32\' folder.
