No, I meant disable hardware installaton as i understood well tip you gave me explain how to disable prompting only by baloon tooltips

Tutor from my link for Vista explain how to disable any new hardware install after it will be plugged.

Maybe is this possible anyway for auto install because I'm afraid XP PRO haven't got such feature at all...

Run > Devmgmt.msc > find the installed hardware, right click and click disable

that should silence the repeating prompts to install drivers for the new hardware if that was what you were asking... or if its something you can remove pop the case open and pull it out :-D

Something Funny: Im running Xubuntu atm and when reading this question i was trying to click run and type in devmgmt.msc but couldnt find run lol

oh god what answers ?!

Have all of you read my post especially link ?

I mean prevent from installing new hardware

I'm afraid you need example as simple as that.

You plugging ( first time ) some usb flash pendrive in this moment windows automaticly will install universal drivers for it as removable drive.

In Vista there is admin option to forbid installing any new hardware

That's what i mean.

Your answer for now looks most reasonable however it's little hardcore :)

Script it: make one script for renaming the file to something else, the other one (when you want autodetect and install new devices) renames it back to the original name.
