integrating XP SP3: "windows firewall settings cannot be displaye

Hi,

I integrated XP SP3 in my installsource.

When i install a new client the screen resolution from my unattend file (1024 * 768) is not accepted. it just appears in 640 *480.

Also, i cannot ping the computer and when i try changing the firewall settings I get: "Windows firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) services?"

If i click Yes, an error occurs.

Anyone got a solution for this?

I already got a clean Xp installation CD with SP2 integrated and slipstreamed the SP3 in that I386 folder. Still the result is the same

Is these problems in VMWare?

If yes then it is the issue of not having the proper drivers integrated.

See the VMWare video drivers are not in XP at all so it defualts to a non plug and play state fro the video.

Funny thing is 2003 has the video drivers O_o.

Yes, keep in mind that when you install windows XP (regardless of Service Pack), you *may* (hehe) have to install specific drivers for your hardware once XP has been installed.

If you set the screen resolution at 1024x768, it won't matter if you don't have the video drivers to support it. I would imagine as well that if you don't have any working network devices that the firewall services would fail to start, but I could be wrong about that.

Once XP has finished installing and you have logged in, open up the device manager from the control panel and make sure you have no devices with a yellow exclamation(!) beside them. If so, you will need to download and install the device drivers for each of those devices.

Some folks like to integrate the drivers they need into thier install source--and there are also plenty of resources in this forums for finding out how to do that.

I have the correct driver, and the correct drivers are also installed, but the screen resolution is not at 1024 * 768.

In the unattend.txt isThe vertical and horizontal resolution are set to 1024*768, so that is not the problem.

Is no one else experiencing these problems?

Nope. It should be unattend.txt.

I'me starting the installation from a DOS environment and am using winnt.exe /U:%TEMP%\UNATTEND.TXT

I still haven't found the solution for my problem.

If the drivers are integrated, and SP3 doesn't work (but SP2 does), how are you integrating the drivers? Did you slipstream SP3 over your integrated SP2 source, or did you slip SP3 and then set up the drivers? Probably need to know a little more about what you're doing to get the drivers integrated into the source and more about the SP, and in what order things are being done.

The drivers are in the $OEM$ directory and exactly the same as the drivers that i use for SP2.

I used a clean Windows XP installation CD with SP2 integrated. I slipstreamed SP3 in that setup, but I still use the original $OEM$.

The problem is :

- at T28 the file napclientprov.mof is missing.

- After the installation the Firewall does not work properly

- Screen resolution is not taken over from the unattend.txt

- missing shortcuts for IE after installation.

Assuming SP3 5512, napclientprov.mof issues are because wbemoc.inf has references to these files and they should be on the source, but if it's modified in any way (or the files really don't exist), then the error will occur (this was pretty common with slipstreams from SP3 RCs to SP3 RTM, where wbemoc.inf didn't get updated properly during the slip - not sure about slip'ing over SP2, but I suppose it's possible).

It almost sounds like the drivers aren't getting installed completely. If you install the drivers on the SP3 source manually, do they work?
