Steven W Posted April 18, 2008 Share Posted April 18, 2008 I recently installed 98SE on a friends PC. I downloaded Media Player Classic and tried to play a DVD. MPC whined there was no YV12 codec. I found several solutions, Ligos Indeo codecs 5.11 worked the best out of all I tried. Question: Aren't older versions of these codecs supposed to be installed by default on 95 - ME? I also ran across a patch for XP that includes version 5.10 of these codecs. I'm not interested in the patch itself but, it contains an INF file that I would like to mod a section of to make a REG file out of. Update.inf has a Product.Add.Reg section that I think could be modded. http://download.microsoft.com/download/whi...SP2_x86_ENU.exeWould someone with the know-how please look at it for me. I thought if you deleted all the entries that start:HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Hotfix\and modded the remaining "HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\" to read "HKLM,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\" losing NTObviously add Regedit4 at the beginning. Sfor Posted April 18, 2008 Share Posted April 18, 2008 Long time ago I've downloaded Intel Indeo 5.11 codec pack directly from the intel site. The intaller and codecs were working both on Windows 95 and 98.I never used Ligos Indeo codecs, as I have the Intel version installed, still. you could just whip up a dummy INF file and paste in pre-existing code from other INFs. You then right-click on this custom INF and "INSTALL" (provided you're set up for context actions with RUNDLL). By aiming the trusty old START|FIND at *.cab on the 4.10.2222 distribution CDROM you will find the following:IAC25_32.AX .... Win98_22.cabIR32_32.DLL .... Win98_31.cabIR41_32.AX ..... Win98_22.cabIR50_32.DLL .... Win98_31.cabIVFSRC.AX ...... Win98_22.cabIYVU9_32.DLL ... (not found)Whether they are installed during SETUP or later by ADD/REMOVE Media Player I simply cannot remember.Regardless, after running the above REG file or a modded INF, you really should verify that these files (or more recent versions) are in Windows/System. It would also make sense to drop each one onto a regsvr32 shortcut (i.e., self-register them). Although I am pretty sure that when MP/WMP/MPC executes it will in fact self-register any codecs used during the session, but why not just do them all.
