Internet Explorer 7 with Windows98SE

The trial version of 98lite gives you a choice of sleek, chubby, and overweight, all of which are still lighter than a default install. Sleek uses the 95 shell. The other 2 use 98. Chubby has no web integration or active desktop features. Overweight does. http://www.litepc.com/98lite.html

Even on the "chubby" setting, enough IE components are removed that apps that use IE components will not install. IEradicator leaves just enough components behind to allow those apps to install. WMP and other media players are some of them. Can't remember the others at the moment.

That's strange. According to the 98lite documentation the Windows 98 explorer is replaced by Windows 95 explorer in order to get rid of the IE.

Since the explorer is the system shell, the 98lite changes the shell to the one taken from the Windows 95.

This was true for version 1.0 of 98lite.

But as the previous post stated, 98lite now can remove IE while preserving the original 98 shell, just as Fred Vorck's tutorial allows you to remove IE 5 from 2000 without switching to a different shell.

I believe that the document meant that switching to the 95 shell further removes IE.
