New Regshot alike tool out with added capabilities

Recommended Posts

Martin H posted this but I wanted to make sure HFSLIP folks got to see it since it could be quite useful here.

One of the most important things missing from the Regshot tool, is it's inability to output it's traced changes into .reg files.

Paraglider then made a Regshot-mod which could output .txt logfiles using REGEDIT4 format.

Now a Regshot alike freeware tool named Regshot 2.0 unicode has emerged which resembles the old Regshot very much, while adding some nice extra capabilities...

  • It can output directly to REGEDIT4(ansi) or REGEDIT5(unicode) .reg files.
  • It can make both REDO.reg and UNDO.reg files.
  • It can output directly into INF files.
  • It can make both REDO.inf and UNDO.inf files.
  • It can auto-translate 'HKEY USERS\S-1-5-21[...]' into 'HKEY_CURRENT_USER'.
  • It includes a registry exclude list.
  • It includes an folder exclude list.
  • It features much more advanced configurability than the original Regshot.

The homepage and tool is in Russian, but the tool can be changed into english from a drop-down box..

Just thought that i would spred the word alittle for anyone that didn't knew about it :)

I specifically mentioned :

[...]The homepage and tool is in Russian, but the tool can be changed into english from a drop-down box...[...]

However, you can also just change the 'Language' variable to 'English' in the ini file before you start the app...

Go into 'File > Options' and enable 'Check files in the specified folders' and then under the 'Folders' tab you right-click in the 'Checked objects' field and select 'Add' to add folders you want monitored for changes...

There is a very good solution to capture registry and file changes that was presented by shirin here:

http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=5398

Last week, Paraglider also mentioned that we would be willing to change regshot to output app script compatible format, which would allow to script all registry operations with winbuilder: http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...ost&p=41542

Beware that not all captured registry is correct because of the internal DLL versions that are found on the host system and regshot doesn't take into account the correct OCX/DLL registrations or even the cases where the windows platform might not provide the required dependencies at all (for example: differences between XP/Vista or full install vs minimal install / PE install)

-----

I mention this because we've been working on a method to install programs into other windows install that we also build from scratch so a lot of these tools and concerns needed to be solved and scripted to allow correct automation of all these steps.

Related to methods to mimic program installs, here is an app script example that uses the language that paraglider was mentioning on the above mentioned link to add fileZilla onto an external windows (in this case a XP PE type): http://livexp.boot-land.net/LiveXP/Apps/FT...leZilla3.script

More app scripts can be read here:

An AddOn for this was posted here. Anyone try the addon yet in an install?

I ran across this tool as well and it seems to overcome that obstacle that people using RegShot 1.82 wanted to use it for.

Anyone heard of this RegFromApp tool or use it?

Also - Anyone know of a tool like this that can also monitor DLL and OCX codec registrations. So one can avoid "Codec Hell"

I know that regsvr32 is a command used most often to register/unregister codecs.

I am going to try and attempt a way to only load the codecs that Nero needs for its Nero Recode to function and then be able to unload them when I am done. Since I believe Nero can often load alot of codecs that may effect other programs.
