PeaceByJesus
Thanks for the update. i should go get it i suppose. All is running as before, and i can see not difference with sp1, except that Windows movie maker is more flaky than before. Rather than just crashing when you load to large a file, it deletes all the clips you are working with (and saved as a project) when you import another video. Back to XP for this i guess. The slipstreamed vista w/sp1 just came in, thank God. I did write back to MS support and referenced this thread. And told you could work for them. And told them you could work for them.nah. I think you're better off with the Sigmatel/IDT Audio drivers version 6.10.5515 from the R173209.EXE package. The current IDT HD Audio Codecs for Vista (v1.0.5713.6 dated 2/13/2008) are no longer available from Windows Update and last time I checked the Dell forums, this updated IDT HD Audio Codecs have caused problems and killed their audio and had to revert back to the older working drivers to get back their sound.Perhaps Microsoft should ask Dell for the v6.10.5515 Sigmatel HD audio drivers from R173209 for Dell desktops and post them on Windows Update & Microsoft Update. Ditto for the v6.10.5614 drivers from R171788 for Dell laptops. For those using certain HP and Sony laptops, here are the latest Sigmatel/IDT High Def. Audio updates:sp38558.exe [this one has v6.10.5712 A of the Sigmatel/IDT ID92HD71B7 Audio drivers - posted March 7, 2008]STDAUD-01487701-US.EXE [this one has v6.10.5614.0 of the Sigmatel/IDT HD Audio drivers - posted December 10, 2007]I'm pretty sure the drivers posted at the HP & Sony support sites won't work on Dell machines. Obtain either one of those files ONLY if you are using HP/Compaq or Sony notebook machines. It looks like Gateway has finally posted newer Sigmatel/IDT audio drivers on their web site.D20361-001-001.exe [bundles v6.10.5713.1 of the Sigmatel/IDT High Def. Audio drivers - posted April 24, 2008]Perhaps lexonex may want to try out these drivers on his computer. These drivers Gateway has posted DO have the qualifying "7682" hardware ID number on there.better late than never I guess...for Gateway that is. The following day (May 13), Microsoft pulled the updated IDT HD Audio Codec driver 1.0.5713.6 from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog and seems to be no longer available.Doing a recent Microsoft Update Catalog search on "Sigmatel High Definition Audio Codec" listed some new Sigmatel/IDT drivers here:http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/sit...ion+audio+codecThis one is version 6.10.5866 and here are the qualifying hardware ID numbers:HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790461HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_117904F1HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_11790472HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790472HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790463HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790462HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_11790473HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_117904F2HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7690&SUBSYS_00000100HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_8384&DEV_7691&SUBSYS_00000100This new driver with driver date of 2/15/2008 is specifically for Toshiba laptops with built-in Sigmatel HD Audio. So for those using Sigmatel HD Audio on certain Toshiba notebooks, an updated driver is now available from Windows Update & Microsoft Update Catalog. lexonex
What is Microsoft Update Catalog? It's a service from Microsoft that provides a listing of updates that can be distributed over a corporate network. You can use it as a one-stop location for finding Microsoft software updates, drivers, and hotfixes. If I use the Microsoft Update Catalog, do I still have to use Windows Update? The Microsoft Update Catalog provides updates, including drivers, that are for distribution across a corporate network. For non-corporate scenarios, we recommend you use automatic updating or the Microsoft Update website. In Windows Vista, you no longer use a Web site to check for updates. Instead, you can check for updates by opening Control Panel, and opening Windows Update. If you use Microsoft Update, you can install updates for Windows and other Microsoft software products through Windows Update. I'm a home user. No corporte network here. Just because it is not in the MS Update Catalog does not mean it has been taken away from Windows Update. erpdude8
I'm a home user. No corporte network here. Just because it is not in the MS Update Catalog does not mean it has been taken away from Windows Update. Right?unfortunately, lexonex, it may be removed from Windows Update also. Some Vista users who have tried the IDT HD Audio Vista driver 1.0.5713.6 on some Dell computers (not Gateway computers) from Windows Update had their audio hardware disabled w/ no sound [ouch!]. It looks like the driver you got from Windows Update is for your Gateway machine and not for other name brand computers such as Dell/HP/Sony. Please note, those drivers are NOT generic. IDT is so reluctant to make generic audio drivers and since IDT doesn't want to provide Vista "end users" with any updated drivers, they suggest getting them from PC Manufacturers like Dell/Gateway/HP/Sony/Toshiba which make things pretty challenging for Vista users to find new drivers.Read here, lexonex:http://www.dellcommunity.com/supportforums...thread.id=83043quote from DSL_Steve:Looks like MS pulled the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC from MS Update. When he says "MS Update" he means Microsoft Update/Windows Update. And Microsoft Update Catalog is for everyone, including home users. I'm a home user too and I sometimes use Microsoft Update Catalog to search for and download some drivers. You can also find version 1.0.5713.6 of the IDT 92XX Vista Audio Drivers from the AUD_allOS_5762x_5713.6v_PV_IDTGUI_v68.exe file:http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Des...32〈=engDell has just released a new Sigmatel HD Audio Driver for Dell Optiplex 740 and perhaps other Dell desktop computers (maybe even the Dimension E520 machine PeaceByJesus is using). Get the SIGMATEL_STAC-92XX-C-Major-H_A06_R182475.exe file to update the Sigmatel HD Audio drivers to version 6.10.5866.Note that the SIGMATEL_STAC-92XX-C-Major-H_A06_R182475.exe file is for Dell desktop computers and will not work for Dell laptops and non-Dell computers such as Gateway/HP/Sony/Toshiba. erpdude8
I really did receive an Audio Update through Windows Update...................and you did, lexonex. Before May 13, the IDT HD Audio Codec 1.0.5713.6 Vista driver was still available from Windows Update since late April. Once May 13th came, Windows Update/Microsoft Update stopped offering it and a lot of angry Dell users who use IDT/Sigmatel audio on their systems lost their sound after installing the IDT HD Audio Codec from Windows Update. They had to use Vista's "roll-back" driver feature to restore the working IDT/Sigmatel audio drivers on their Dell computers.I've found new IDT/Sigmatel HD Audio drivers but these are for Hewlett-Packard laptops only.sp39330.exe [iDT ID92HD71B7 Audio Driver version 6.10.5929.0 released 5-6-2008]

lexonex
JIMMY OLSENDear Superman aka erpdude8,I thought long and hard over this. My emotions have been spent. I have crossed that threshold of frustration and just don’t give a **** anymore regarding MS drivers or their operating systems. Vista? Yes, it looks good and I have no problem with it’s’ bells and whistles. Where is the performance and ease of use for consumers? MS executives are out there hyping MS “next” operating system and some kind of “touch screen” interface... WHAT HAPPENED TO THE KERNEL UPDATE FOR 64- BIT VISTA? WHAT ABOUT FIXING THE AUDIO DRIVER ISSUE? I just got off the MS band wagon. I’m letting the MS parade pass me bye as in GOOD-BYE..…No regrets….Decision has been made….My Mac Pro (single quad) arrives next week….Jimmy gets to ride the Leopard!
