bootless
What brand/model type of external is it?I know Western Digital has different drivers for USB-1 and USB-2. j7n, is the native USB driver for external h.d.'s too?, It says ..." support USB flash drives, digital photo and videocameras and other similar devices." If yes it's not clear to me since it says flash drives. Edited March 11, 2008 by bootless
j7n
The driver is for "storage" devices. It just happen that Flash memory is most useful portable storage technology at this time.I've used this driver with a HDD enclosure and on old USB 1 computers (with flash). If Windows XP can work without a driver with your hard disk, there is a great chance this driver will enable Win98 to do the same.
u2kforever
Alright here is what i bought and what i did to get mind to work:WD My Book Essential Edition 2.0 External 500GB Hard DriveSecond, downloaded the USB drivers storage.3rd, plug in the device, it shows up the green icon in the tray, but it doesn't show up in the my computer part. Last, go to control panel, device manager, click on DISK Drives, you should see something called: WD5000AAV external, right click it, click on settings. Check mark where it says " Removable ", then add a drive letter, and restart your computer and it should show up.Note: There is a slight delay/pause before you can access your external drive everything you click on it.
