BTW... It's HFSLIP 1.7.0 ~ 1.7.4. Just saying that so you can still avoid going insane before the release of HFSLIP 1.10 :)

it's already too late for me

HFANSWER.INI it's at default. i think i used it once for the IE7 integration and than set it back to default.

The thing is like this...

If you do get the "I have read the instructions" prompt but you don't get the page with the compression options (normally shown next), it can only be due to a bad HFANSWER.INI file.

Does something happen if you type MAKEISO instead of I have read the instructions?

you were right about me going insane :blushing:

it actually is after the compression setting and path setting which both are left at default.

i am sorry if i am driving you crazy and thanks for the help

typing MAKEISO instead of I have read the instructions makes it disappear.

i just did a test in a vmware os and the HFSLIP 1.7.4 runs perfect but the same setup will not run on my main OS.

there must be something missing some where . :(

anyway thanks for the help i will just wait until SP3 is out than i will redo my OS

what is net1.exe? any idea? it appears in the taskmanager whenever i run the HFSLIP 1.7.4 and as soon as i terminated that process the HFSLIP continues on with it's process

if i remove the net1.exe from system32 folder HFSLIP will work as normal but why is it called by HFSLIP if there is no need for it. it just doesn't make sense.

net.exe is used by HFSLIP to determine the version of the host OS.

Can you open a command prompt and type this command?

net config work

Does the last line that appears say "The command completed successfully"? If so, what's reported as "Software version"?

yes the command does complete successfully

Software version Windows 2002

let me ask you this does the 1.6.5 version checks the version of OS as well?

what does net1.exe do for HFSLIP?

HFSLIP doesn't call net1.exe (at least not deliberately). It calls net.exe.

This method to determine the name of the host OS is used since HFSLIP 1.7.1.

I attached a package containing two small scripts. "gethost.cmd" tries to determine the name of the host OS by using net.exe while "gethost1.cmd" queries net1.exe. Start one of the scripts and see if the net1.exe process stays resident while the "Press any key to continue..." message appears. Then close the DOS box and try the same with the second script.

tested both scripts and i could not tell if net1.exe was called or not but i can tell you if it was did not stay on.

i think i found the problem! there was a registry entry for net1.exe which i removed and i replaced the net1.exe in system32 from the cd just to be on the safe side and problem is solved. :thumbup

however net1.exe showed up in taskmanager ONLY when HFSLIP was running. weird all the way around

Thanks again for your help

net.exe and net1.exe are command line tools so if you don't run other CMD scripts (that call net*.exe) that explains why this only happened with HFSLIP.

Personally, I would've preferred to fix the problem. Do you have an idea which program might have changed net1.exe? I also did some checking and it appears that some viruses are known to use those names or even replace the files.

believe me I would've loved to find out the source of the problem. I've been tackling this problem since version 1.7.0 . as far as i can tell i never had problem with spyware or viruses not even a slight sign of it and i looked in the registry of few other computers and fresh/untouched install of XP in vmware and none had that reg entry and i have no idea how it got there in the first place.

anyway like i said before i am just waiting for sp3 to come out so i can redo this system. it's been long over due :blushing:
