A run down of what happened. sorry for long story ahead of time.

First a couple of days ago I was getting slow downs on boot. I paid no attention until this evening when I was overclocking and the long wait between reboots.

First I update all my malware programs, reboot into safe mode, run Spybot 1.52 and it find and removes smitfraud. I run evrything else and nothing was found.

I reboot into windows and it's still slow and I notice I have no sound. I check all connections and still no sound. I remove speakers then plug in headset, still no sound. I then reinstall Audigy CD and still no sound. I remove sound card thinking it was fried and was why it was slow booting. still slow. Dummy me put speakers on other computer and killed its built-in sound - bah.

Now I uninstall all the creative products and start uninstalling some of my programs (51 processes at startup according to task manager). I finish and run ccleaner and when I reboot again I find my sound program still running in system tray(still no sound.) I recheck and all Creative products are removed. Could a virus have killed my speakers/sound card?

anyway, while uninstalling stuff from add/remove programs in control panel, I see a few odd programs. one was BrowsingProgram. I thought it was from when I installed QuickTime but wasn't. I then clicked on the program to uninstall it and comodo firewall ask for permission to internet. I open firefox and search for info on it and then the wierdest thing happened, it disappeared from the add/remove program list? then another popup came up, but was called AU_.exe. Then while searching for it, I discovered it's a trojan virus. Then I look and a few more pop-up from comodo came up and it was going alphabetical from AU_.exe, BU_.exe, ... and was last on UU.exe before a reboot to get highjackthis installed as the popups from comodo kept messing up my install.

I know most of the stuff looks good, but it was weird the creative stuff is still installed? I even had a full menu in all programs from creative. how do you remove that thing? it acts like a virus itself - lol.

and lastly there is still another unknown file installed PlayMP3z. There was a Play_MP3.EXE on my desktop that I deleted earlier. I think it must of got ran when my friend was using my computer to watch videos he downloaded. not sure. I remember he said he installed a codec or something and didn't pay any attention about it until now.

Let me know if you see anything wrong with the log. I thought there was an analyzer for the log, but it didn't run and took me to a highjackthis site with info.

You log looks clean though you mentioned having SmitFraud. You may want to run Smitfraud Fix to be sure you got everything removed.

As for your sound, try plugging in some headphones directly into the computer and see if you have sound (be sure to check your volume controls). If you still have no audio, try unplugging your speakers completely from the system and then turn off your system and unplug it from the wall. Leave it this way for about 30 minutes. The best time to do this is before you go to sleep at night or if you have to go out for while during the day. It's possible your speakers may have died.

Your Java needs to be updated so be sure to get the latest JRE from Sun.

I ran the smitfraudfix.exe and it found several pages of stuff on the report it generated. I found it odd that spybot or the other malware programs didn't completely remove it?

Unfortunately it still takes forever to boot(about 9 progress bars at the windows logo boot screen, it used to only take 3 or 4 before).

Also, if the highjackthis log didn't show the virus, then how can I be sure there isn't more of these things on the system? I've been using your malware sticky and install all the free programs you lists (I did buy the Avast License.)

the only way I seem to notice any infections is by watching my HD activity light and Comodo's system tray icon that shows internet activity. Other than that, I never know I have a virus as nothing seems to catch it because it's either too new and there is no definition file for it yet, or it seems to be hidden to the system.

ps... I already tried the suggestions for the sound before I posted this message with no luck at all. Today I reinstalled the sound card and tested with headphones and no sound still. i assume the amp went out on my speakers and shorted out the sound card. I enabled the built-in sound and headphones work fine. but my other system still has no sound and my sound card is toast. Now to find some new speakers. these were about 3-4 years old, but not used much, but were on all the time as the power switch is on the sub and behind it at that.

Bingo - this is why we always tell people that unless you're doing the cleanup as a learning exercise, it's always best to backup your data and start over once you get infected...

...and if this IS a learning exercise, be sure to do a reinstall after you fix it anyway, as you can never really truly be sure the box is clean ever again.
