Cool.

I see some people think that MS warning people against vLite when it comes to Service Pack is a bad thing.

It's not, I wrote the same at vlite.net. If you plan on installing SP on it then don't remove anything.

Only preintegrated SP can be trimmed.

What I don't like is them thinking that Hotfixes might fail while they never did, or if it was it was during beta testing and quickly fixed.

Nuhi don’t you think that you must state something like this on vLite homepage to clear some misunderstanding:

Warning:

When searching for updates in Windows Vista (Windows Updates in Control Panel), Hotfixes will not appear for components that have been removed by vLite. This is NOT a bug! If for e.g. Windows Defender was removed, no definition updates will appear on Windows Update!

Congrats nuhi you are da man!

Winsxs is extreme and hidden component, also it says in the description clearly that it breaks cpanel - features and hotfix installs, it's not worth mentioning because then some might think that is what vLite does by default.

So to make it clear for some trigger happy reporters: you can remove all components and the hotfixes for the kept components will work.

There is one hidden extreme component which can only be enabled with a special switch and it disables any windows updating, should only be used if you integrate your hotfixes before install and reinstall often.

You gotta admit that only experienced users will know about it and enable it, but if some newbie does enable it and manages to ignore the warning well more power to him, he might also delete some crucial dll file by hand and blame me.

I Agree with what nuhi said :)

Updated, thx louie and sp00f. Also a new article has been found which is today :) but there are more articles appearing about what microsoft thinks about it, when they clearly have not used vLite at all lol

Lets not blow it out of proportion. They just said that you might need some removed component and that service pack fails.

If they were not against component removal there would be custom install in Windows, it's not really a revelation but news does need to be hyped for us to be entertained.

They're the ones who packed everything on in Vista; run everything by default; and I notice they decided to put more things in the kernel and/or as services, like they turned something like Offline Files into a driver AND a service running by default, or the need to discover proxies is now a service and a driver running by default.

The only uninstallers they provide at most for their middleware are shortcut uninstallers.
