Ill start off with my specs:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1.8GHz (s939)

DFI nF4-DAGF

1gb ram

ATi HD 3850 256mb

250gb Western Digital

NEC DVD Burner

Rosewill 600W

Yeah, i currently have around $150 right now and im trying to figure out what my next upgrade should be. i just wanna upgrade my cpu, but then again i don't really wanna stick with a socket 939 anymore, unless there is a pretty cheap cpu around thats good for my needs.

I want to be able to:

play cs:source with 100+fps stable.

be able to run a couple applications and play games without any lag.

so yeah not much needs but my cpu can't handle what i currently do so yeah.

I have a friend that wants to sell his computer parts once all the new stuff comes out, like the e8500. and heres what hes got

abit ip35e $89.99 @newegg

Core 2 Duo Allendale e4300 OVERCLOCKED @ 3.2GHz $129.99 @newegg

gskill 4gb ram DDR2 (not sure what speed, most likely 800)

i'm trying to convince him to sell it to me for $200 and he said he will think about it, and if he agrees, do you think its a good deal?

but if that doesn't work out, what should i get? i'm trying to spend less than $300 on all this. thanks.

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

+ 100 USD.

Intel Pentium E2180 Allendale 2.0GHz 1MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

+ 88 USD.

A-DATA Value Series 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Desktop Memory - Retail

+ 19 USD.

So, depending on how much RAM you like, you could have new parts for 226USD (2GB) or 264USD (4GB) plus TAX and shipping ;).

EDIT: By the way, with the stock cooler you can hit 3GHz without any problem. Just look at my signature .
