dave237 Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 TuneUp Utilities 2008 is no long support win 98. Neverthless I try it on my win 98 se and find that some functions act fine (registry cleaner for example) and some not (1 click maintenance). Is there a way to make it all worked well?
patchworks Posted December 31, 2007 Posted December 31, 2007 TweakNow PowerPack dropper 98/me support in the 1.7 version...It would be great to have an "oldware" tweak software collection archive website !BTW, we still have the good old WinBoost
realdealrep Posted August 22, 2008 Posted August 22, 2008 Jv16 Powertools (macecraft.com) gets rid of register problems and useless files a LOT more effectively. It cleans out cache memory. It will speed up your computer. I've used it for months. It's easy to use and doesn't crash your win 98 system.
eXtremeDX Posted August 23, 2008 Posted August 23, 2008 just keep on TuneUp 2007 2008 doesn't have anything useable for 98, just a new GUI that uses lots of resurces
cannie Posted August 30, 2008 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) No need of updates when old versions run OK, being your OS the same. In many cases new versions are not good for Windows 98 SE users even being compatible: I've had myself some bad experiences with software "for Windows 98", which sabotaged my computer. Well, I suspect maybe it is a way to "convince" you to buy a new machine without spending a cent in ads. I always seek the best version for my needs, no matter if I find it to be the oldest one. Good old versions are also Easy Cleaner 2.0, BoostSpeed 3 and SpeedStartup. A very good freeware new registry cleaner is Glary Registry Repair 2.8. Edited August 30, 2008 by cannie
etalmar Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 (edited) A very good freeware new registry cleaner is Glary Registry Repair 2.8.I would respectfully disagree with that suggestion. I tried this program, liked it well enough, but after I ran Spybot, it found the following malware ...Telecom/Malware!FlashDollars.RegistryRepair: [sBI $9FE4E5EC]Program directoryUse this program with caution! I immediately deleted it after Spybot S&D detected this malware. You could try RegSeeker 1.55 as an alternative. I use it every day and it works quite well without any glitches or crashes. eXtremeDX Posted September 25, 2008 Posted September 25, 2008 Norton Utilities Registry Cleaner and no more slowness, detects all the missing keys, but not free i did the trick with this one, but i got tuneup so there is no need to keep them both
