WildKat
I have a 18" LCD screen which is about 3 years old. The power seems to be fine and it gets a signal from my graphics card but it doesnt display anything on the screen. Its possibly a problem with the backlight/inverter. Does anyone have any experience of repairing an LCD? Thanks.
nitroshift
When starting Windows press F8 and choose VGA mode. If that doesn't work then you have an issue.
WildKat
Its definitely a hardware issue with the monitor. Windows boots fine with another screen.
Ponch
If it's the inverter (cheap part), you should still be able to see something, looking from very close.
nitroshift
Its definitely a hardware issue with the monitor. Windows boots fine with another screen. If your Windows desktop resolution is set to say 1280 x 1024 @ 75Hz and the monitor in question does not support that resolution, it will stay black. On a different note, do you see the POST at all?
WildKat
I know what your getting at but its a hardware fault. The monitors menu / tv mode doesnt display either let alone POST.
jcarle
If it's only the backlight, then you'll be able to see an image on the screen if you shine a flashlight into it.

WildKat
Seems there is no "unlit picture". Just black. What could this be, inverter perhaps?
puntoMX
No, that’s not a small problem you have there. Did you check the cable? Could be a bad contact, broken cable or worse, the board...
