Custom Icons and Cursor In Unattended XP

Recommended Posts

The question is simple. How? It's not really the icons (explorer.exe), but the cursor. How can I change the cursor then put it into the unattended XP?

I've searched explorer.exe, but don't seem to find the cursor.

Cursors can be found in your WINDOWS\Cursors folder. You can add your own cursors there. Use an application such as Regshot to make a snapshot of your registry. In your mouse properties, select the new cursors which you would like to use. Once done, make another snapshot with Regshot and compare both snapshots. Save the registry changes which apply to your new cursors to a REG-file. If you want to use variables, which is advisory, adjust the paths in your REG-file accordingly. During unattended install you can now either copy over the cursors using $OEM$ folders and import the REG-file, or you can make a switchless silent installation package which copies the cursors and which imports the REG-file. I prefer this last method, as you can use the installer to simply install these cursors on other machines as well. Good luck.
