Integration of Intel's SATA AHCI and RAID drivers

Please check the iaStor.sys file in your "STOR_all32_f6flpy32_8.6.0.1007_PV" download. I got an "iaStor.sys is corrupt" message while trying it. My hunch is that this is for the 64bit version, however I only have a 32bit so I can't get around to trying it.

Hi jpaugustin,

Perhaps this post helps http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...st&p=808052

If you dont want to use my files, download from Intel Matrix Storage Manager page

And unpack like I explain in that post..

Good luck!

How do I know I am using the Intel or J-Micron Ports?

I have a SOny Vaio FW-11M Notebook, and I am quite green on playing with this subject, although quite experienced with computers.

Thank you!

Change in BIOS to IDE mode install windows, download and install HWiNFO32 if you need to know more about what hardware you have in your new laptop.

Then you perhaps know more what kind of drivers you need for the Vaio in AHCI mode..

The S-ATA hdd's have to be connected to the Intel S-ATA ports of the mainboard.

Important: Many Intel chipset mainboards have Intel and JMicron S-ATA connectors. Before you continue with your preparations, you should check, if the S-ATA cables of your hdd's are really connected to the Intel ports. If you are using the JMicron S-ATA ports, you have to integrate/load the JMicron textmode drivers (you can get them here). Otherwise Windows Setup will not detect your S-ATA connected hdd(s) at all.

In the link for the Jmicron connectors there are many .zip files containing drivers with the same names. which ones should we download and integrate?

Since the Intel textmode driver download links within my guide are Intel's official ones, I doubt, that the original IASTOR.SYS file of the "STOR_all32_f6flpy32_8.6.0.1007_PV" package is corrupt. You usually get this message, when you have integrated a 64bit textmode driver into a 32bit OS or vice versa.

The easiest way is to ask the vendor of the notebook or the Sony support.

You should always take the newest one with the highest version number. Here is the link: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/Win2k_...R1.17.43.05.zip

Thanks to Fernando and everyone helping out with this topic. My eyes have gotten blurry with all the info out there. This forum seems to have some of the better advice.

This is the question/problem I'm having. My computer documentation says that I have an Nvidia system chipset (GeForce7100/nForce630i) AND an Intel Broadwater/ICH8 series chipset I/O controller hub. I researched each and both have S-ATA drivers for download. Which ones do I use for a slipstream install of XP?

I'm not interested in using RAID, I just want to do a clean install of XP(32bit) on the new hardware (desktop w/vista) & have the new SATA hard drive I bought to work properly. Please help.

Thanks

Without having concrete experience with that combo, I'd say - the ones to which your boot partition will be connected to. Or both - I don't think it would hurt. :)

You can do what GrofLuigi proposed, but I am nearly sure, that your S-ATA hdd is connected with a NVIDIA nForce 630i S-ATA Controller. To verify that, you should either look into your mainboard manual or - if possible - run Vista and look into the "IDE ATA ATAPI Controllers" resp. "Storage Controllers" section of the Device Manager for a special Intel or NVIDIA S-ATA Controller.

In this case I recommend to set the related S-ATA Controller to AHCI mode within the mainboard BIOS and to integrate the SATA_IDE driver folder of a suitable nForce chipset driver package (NVIDIA's official set v15.24 would be fine) as TEXTMODE driver to get your S-ATA disk detected.

For further informations you should have a look into the "Tips for users with a non-Raid nForce S-ATA system" you can find within the Annex II part of this guide.

If your S-ATA hdd should be connected with an Intel ICH8R SATA AHCI Controller, you have to integrate the 32bit Intel textmode driver according to my guide within the first post of this thread.

Fernando1 you are a God!

Without your tutorial I never would have been able to install XP x64 to my ECS G33T-M2 motherboard with Intel G33 and ICH9 chipsets. You my friend, are a good person for taking the time to do this for us. Thank You Very Much!

Hi fernando,

I followed your well structured and usefull guide to integrate these SATA drivers, only it doesn't work with me :/

I'm trying to install the my Win XP on a virutal system using VMware Workstation..

In ur guide it is said, that one needs to change the settings in the BIOS, but I can't find them, meaning i don't think I can choose..

The BIOS of the virtual machine is by "Phoenix".

Hope the information helps you to support me..

Thx for replying :) ,

Cheers

@ Glaedr:

AFAIK you can't do a vitual install of an OS by using VMware, if you have a RAID or AHCI system.

So you have to do a real install.

Which Southbridge chipset does your mainboard/notebook have?

Are you running RAID or AHCI?

Create a bootable XP CD with integrated 32bit Intel textmode drivers as written within the first post of this thread.

When you come to the step, where to decide which Intel Controllers you want to be supported, enable just the 5th and the 6th of the listed ones (those with the "ICH-7M" within the names).

Do not integrate, remove or tweak anything else.

Let nLite burn directly the image.

I think it's RAID though!
And I think it's AHCI.

Good luck!

Fernando
