I would just like to express my appreciation to Xstyle and other skinners for making Win9x so jaw dropping beautiful and giving new life to this os, I really mean it :) ! I use my (actuallly WinME) box as a HTPC in the living room and it's more awesome than I could have ever imagined, and quite stable too! Also of course big thanks to Tihy which I have expressed elsewhere already. Even if there were no more skins or RP produced I'd be quite satisfied with the way it is now, but it keeps getting better. THANKYOU!

Hey all! I started working on a new pack of skins (I call it the Longhorn pack, as it will be skins based off of Longhorn backgrounds) and this is the first. It's supposed to be a kind of default skin for the Windows 98 Revolutions Pack.

Preview:

The background I edited for the skin is inside the RAR already, but here it is for those of you who want to see just the background anyway.

Click on the thumbnails to see larger images :) Oh yeah, and the preview image is terrible quality (JPEG compression, see) while the actual skin is much better.

I apologize for double-posting, but due to the upload limitations, this was the only way to get this file up.

I don't know about you, but when I change themes, I want my computer to look and feel like a whole new OS. The best way to do that is to make everything match. And it just so happens that the Windows Vista Aero cursors match my Windows Revolutions theme perfectly. For those of you who like the Aero cursors, here they are, in a RAR.

Look...I don't want to hurt your feelings...but the skin looks bad, ugly... I hope you'll take it like a constructive ideea. :hello:

Good news! I'm almost done! But I need your advice!

It looks good...except for the very plain start button logo. I'd suggest either the White Windows flag or a totally different concept, but the four squares just look kinda boring. Of course that's only my feedback. Otherwise from what we can see, it looks awesome!

No worries, my feelings are still in tact :P Mostly I make my skins for my own purposes, and then upload them if I think anyone else will like them. Since I like it, its goal is achieved. Since you don't, hope I do better next time

Hey Xstyle, thanks! Just wondering, sorry if covered already but say a particular skin has a new version do you just merge it over the old or are you supposed to remove it from the reg first? Also, if you wanted to just remove any particular skin do you just look for the particular lines that it adds and remove them? Sorry if the questions sound noob..

Well, that depends on whether you still want your old version or not. And there are a couple ways to update skins, actually.

1: Replace the files already in a certain folder in C:/WINDOWS/Resources, WITHOUT changing the folder name, and then re-applying the skin. No registry stuff needs to be messed with.

2: Make a new folder in C:/WINDOWS/Resources with the version number updated (i.e. MySkin 1.1 instead of MySkin 1.0) in this case, you would have to either rename the old registry key with regedit, or make a new one. Whether or not you keep the old ones is up to you.

So basically, no you don't have to remove it from the reg first, and it may be beneficial not to. But if you were to delete the reg key first, nothing bad should happen to your PC all the same.

Hope this helps B)

I use an existing theme from Resources, I make the elements, or port them from another skin, I edit the skin.ini how I want the theme to be (with aero buttons, the size of the tskbar etc) and after the theme it's finishet I save the new theme with a brand new name in the registry an rename the theme folder the same as the registry save. That's it! This is the quickest way to make a theme! :hello:

LukeSkillz explained very well! B)

Hi XStyle, dear all,

very nice themes, indeed !

I am totally new to this forum and I am not really an IT specialist, but I love my WIN 98 SE and I have installed RP 7 + lameskin, and the theme Longhorn 4008. But I am over 50 years old and I have some problems with (very) small fonts. However, everytime I am changing the font size (with "rightclick", "properties", "appearance"), the skin of the taskbar (launchbar) is disappearing (but only this skin). :puke:

Has anyone an idea how I could do to resolve this ?

Thanks

Rodger

Rodger, when you try to increase the size of the taskbar font size it doesn't fit anymore into the taskbar bitmap. I've tested your problem with the font size 12,14,16 and it worked. What you have to do it's to go in the Windows\Resources\Longhorn 4008\and in here edit the skin.ini and in the Taskbar size put 35 or higher, but i have to warn you that messing up the default values of the skin.ini can bring some bugs to the skin like in this case straching too much. It works in this way but I dont recomand it.

I'm glad you like the themes!
