Error when restarting

Sic6

Recommended Posts

Okay. This is what's happening.. When I reboot, my computer shows this error, right after the BIOS screen:

Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM"

Please press "r" to reboot and go to Recovery Console etc etc..

I can still boot though, I just press the power button on the cpu tower to shut it down manually (bcoz it's stucked with that error message above). Then after waiting for a few secs I open it up and then sometimes it goes through.

Any suggestions of how to fix this?

Thanks

That error means the System registry hive is corrupt. System contains info about your drivers, such as the current control set. It also contains software settings. Since you are just getting a system error, you could just replace the system hive following 307545. However since you randomly can boot, i would recommend running system restore, since a full restore point will have a full backup of your registry. Then i would make sure all your drivers are digitally signed.

If http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545 still don't work, try this:

Right click -> My Computer -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Click on Settings -> Edit:

[boot loader]

timeout=1

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS

[operating systems]

multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect

Save & Restart PC.

thanks for the help guys

i don't hve a system restore point and thsi problem is happening since i reinstalled xp (coz i bought new hardware) so i guess restoring from a point wont work.

default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS

does that mean partition2? what if i don't have a partition, my system might not boot at all?

i'll try the one in MS site right now.. ill post back

hi

i've just done the solution on the MS page, but the error still showed up when i restarted (after doing the instructions).

what i did:

- went to recovery console.

- copied the files from "c:\windows\repair\" to "c:\windows\system32\config".

are there any other ways to fix this?

thanks for your time.
