"The Application Failed to Initialize Properly"

Hey peeps,

I've been playing around a lot making MultiBoot CD's and customized versions of Windows XP and Vista.

And quite happy with myself also, All has been going great, however...

One happy day, I closed nLite, all was fine (no errors) then when I went to open again I got:

nLite.exe - Application Error

The application failed to initalize properly (0xc000007b). Click on OK to terminate the application.

[OK]

This also happens to vLite.

AND, installers for me have gone haywire.

Such as, Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11, Java 1.6.0 Update 2...

To name a few...

I have scanner for viruses, I have done restarts...I HAVE REFORMATTED!

What the heck is going on here?

No, my version of windows is not 'legal' - It's TinyXP...

However, my 'legal' version (dual boot) does it aswell...

No virus, anywhere, AND AFTER A REFORMAT?!

I have tried re-downloading them...

I'm not sure what you think of bumping here, as it's not in the Rules.

The general rule is 24 hours, well, it's been 24 hours, 75 views and 0 replies? Doesn't anyone have an opinion?

I can't continue any of my work without this working...

Could it be a .NET Framework issue? I'm using 2.0 as 3.0 and the 3.5 beta wont install...

(Should I use the 2.0 SP2 if it will work? - Will it make a difference?)

what happens when you try and install .NET 3.0 or 3.5 and "Internet Explorer 7, Windows Media Player 11, Java 1.6.0 Update 2...". in other words describe the "haywire" i.e. crash, hang, erro message. etc...

First off, should I get 3.0? Could it be that 2.0 is outdated and doesn't support nLite/vLite?

About half way through the install, it's an offline installer (no internet connection needed) it just stops and gives me this:

An error occured during setup. Installed files have been removed from your computer. For known issues and troubleshooting information, see the online Readme. For error information, see Error Log.

Another windows pops up, it says the normal "Blah Blah has encountered an error and needs to close. Send error report?"

I click to see the Error Log and I get:

Select the place where you want to move 'dd_dotnetfx3error.txt'. Then click the Move button.

I select a place, anywhere and I get this:

Cannot move dd_dotnetfx3error: It is being used by another person or program.

Close any programs that might be using the file and try again.

But the setup is the only thing using the file, to move it I need the setup, to close the setup, I can't move it and it gets removed from the temp directory...

This is why I hate microsoft...

3.0 has 2.0 in it and its also newer, try looking in task manager (ctrl+alt+del, lol) and check if there is anything in there that shouldnt be but dunno how that would help. Do you have a nlite preset of the installation you are currently using?

I've tried with and without the preset...

However, I've compiled my own log, which I state below:

11:50PM

- First Boot

- Create user account "Morsolo" with Administritive Privillages

- *RESTART*

11:52PM

- Second Boot

- Log into account "Morsolo"

- Install nLite

- Install .NET Framework 2.0

- *RESTART*

11:53PM

- Third Boot

- nLite is still functional

11:54PM

- Started installation of ASUS drivers

12:10AM

- Finished installation of ASUS drivers

- *RESTART*

12:12AM

- Fourth Boot

- nLite still works

- *BEGIN APPLICATION INSTALL*

***** APPLICATION INSTALLS *****

12:34AM - *RESTART*

12:35AM - nLite still functional

12:37AM - Successfully Installed SmartFTP 2.5.1006

12:38AM - nLite fails!

In between the installations I double clicked the nLite icon to see if it crashed...

As you can see, after SmartFTP it stopped working...

I'm guessing it's SmartFTP, however now when I uninstalled it, it's left something in the registry, so I'm going to reformat again...

If it's not SmartFTP, then it has to be one of the programs in the sequence ABOVE it:

12:30AM - Successfully Installed Windows Media Player 11 Slipstreamer

12:31AM - Successfully Installed LimeWire PRO 4.14.0

12:31AM - Successfully Installed Messenger Plus! Live

12:32AM - Successfully Installed Mess Patch 8.5

I too am having this problem. I'm using a perfectly legal copy of Windows XP Media Center Edition on a brand new Alienware laptop. I recieved the laptop a couple of weeks ago and did a fresh install whenever I noticed that the Media Center wouldn't open correctly. I looked up the error on the internet and most everything I read pointed to a .NET problem.

So I followed Microsoft's steps to uninstall and reinstall .NET. Didn't work.

So I formatted the computer. Media Center opened fine for the first few times...until it updated to .NET Framework 1.1. So I formatted it again. Alienware's got it's own installation procedure and automatically installed .NET. So I waited until .NET 1.1 was updated. I hesitantly clicked on Media Center...and it worked. ?? And then, it didn't work.

So I formatted it AGAIN. I turned off automatic updates from Microsoft and it worked like a champ. But then there were about 50 other security updates (thank you, oh Hole-y Microsoft...) that needed to be updated, among which was a .NET framework 1.1 security update. I installed ONLY that update. Guess what: Media center DIDN'T F**ING work! Big surprise!

Formatted it again, COMPLETELY CLEAN FORMAT, NOT QUICK FORMAT. Did the same thing.

Now I can't run anything because of this stupid error. I've checked for viruses. Nothing. I've installed .NET 2.0. Nothing. It won't let me install .NET Framework 3.0 either, so yet another dead end there.

So basically, I've got a $3500 paperweight because either Microsoft can't get their s**t together or there truly IS a problem out there that people just aren't finding (ie-virus software companies) which is just scary. If anybody knows what to do to fix this, I'd much appreciate it. I can only run a handful of programs which is severely hampering my work.

*Drools* Alienware...

For the sake of it, I'm going to reformat again (As SmartFTP wasn't the problem for some reason).

Load the DEFAULT, original Windows XP (First Release) and install SP2 + my drivers... Nothing else...

Then load the programs that are failing, see what happens...They'll probably say "Need Framework".

So, I'll install Framework and see what happens from there...
