I'm not whining, you are. I'm just trying to get the info from the original poster before I claim I know 1+1=2. If you're looking for an argument, go do some sports outside it will calm you down. LNDM. Now I'm done with this thread. Take it as a victory, big boy.

I'll just give you my 2 cents: For older systems that need new drives, due to drive failure, or low disk space, I will sell an 80GB drive, and clip it using the jumpers on it. If the system is so old that it does not allow 32GB clipping, I will use the Drive Overlay software, which usually comes with all retail packages of hard drives. The Drive Overlay software is software that will translate the full hard drive's size in LBA back down to CHS measurement. It does have the side effect of costing a few more CPU cycles for every byte read, but provides the end user with the ability to handle at least 128GiB - and with the 48-bit LBA patch, I'm somewhat certain that you could see the whole drive for what it is. Albeit, formatted with FAT32.

I realize that this doesn't help any, especially if you're really after the older 10-20GB drives. I've been unable to get drives that small for years now. Perhaps grabbing a few 2.5" notebook drives + adapters would be appropriate - you'll probably have better luck finding a new 20GB 2.5" IDE drive than a 3.5" drive.

My C: drive harddisk is 10GB and my D: harddisk is 20GB and I don't go in for partitioning. All that suits me fine. My problem is that I detest those monstrous mega harddisks they are making these days but I'm finding it difficult to find 10/20GB disks any longer. With a view to possible future breakdowns, does anyone know where to obtain them?

Hi, if you're still looking and I'm not violating any site policy, I've still got a new Maxtor 10 GByte 7200 RPM still sealed in the anti-static wrapper I got on a Warranty Return a couple of years ago for a Quantum, plus a couple 10 GByte Quantum Fireballs 5400/7200 rpm used only for backup & stored.

I'll gladly take the 10GB Maxtor (plus another Maxtor if you have). Name your price and let me have your PayPal details or your email. Hold on a mo - you are in the US and I am in Brit, does that create a problem? Thanks.

I live on the west coast, so shipping to England is pretty steep. However, I did some checking around and found a nice grab-bag of inexpensive new and factory re-certified 8.4 GByte, 17.2 GByte, and 20 GByte IDE hard drives for sale from Eastern US vendors that offer reasonable shipping rates to England:

1) In the Drive-Guys Florida website, scroll down to the (24) Seagate (who now owns Maxtor/Quantum) ST38421A 8.4 GByte 5400 RPM Drives @ $14 each + S/H.

1a) The Drive-Guys also have (145) NEW Seagate ST317242A 17.2 GByte 5400 RPM Drives @ $15 each + S/H.
