Windows NT4 Today

First of all : Is there anybody who still regularly uses Windows NT4?

I know that NT4 was not so popular even at "his time" but I would really like to know does anyone prefer NT4 over 9x systems for their legacy PCs and if anybody uses it still?

This should be a general discussion about NT4 today and in general.

Might help me and perhaps awergh and his NT4 Visual Update to make some nice things...

BenoitRen thanks for the inspiration...

I do use it. :)

But the main reason I do it's for a couple elder machines, that do run old programs only, so there is not much sense (for me) to "tweak it" in Visual way.

However, NT4 is not dead at all, the fact is that, from the beginning, it was targeted to "Prefessional" users had a much more limited diffusion than win9x/Me, so the "residual users" base is definitely smaller.

I simply cannot remember having seen ANY PC that came with NT4 installed or bundled, exclusion made for servers.

So, is anything bothering you? What do u think should be added or ported?

Mostly USB support and some visual enhancements (32-bit icons, gradient titlebars). Setting Tahoma as the system font would be nice too.

I don't use NT4 anymore but it was my main OS several years ago. Fast as hell for sure.

Those are just cosmetics :o

I'd expect some more 'serious' cons against NT4 than that ;)

Ie lack of DX beyond DX5, lack of drivers for newer hardware, etc etc...

Other than that its just great OS, perhaps one of the best to come out from Redmond (or should I say from IBM ;) )

Oh, I missed that.

I've got a few NT servers still cranking away. I think they are slated to get replaced next year though.

As far as usb, drivers to exist to now for usb on NT. Would I be breaking any forum rules to post them?

I just got NT 4.0 Terminal Server at eBay to play with.

My kids all use their PCs to surf and chat over DSL (cause newer games dont run on their mashines).

I wanna test, if just using Thinclients for them (around 20 EUR / ~28 $) from eBay could save us a lot of power.

Those Thinclients use 25W instead of 145W on their Compaq Desktops.

So, also i dont know if NT 4.0 TS will be supoorted, i can say: YES, i use NT 4.0 and am interested :thumbup .

Bye,

Bjoern

I haven't tested this myself, I just saw it for download and thought I better hold onto it in case I need it someday. I don't think it's warez but should it turn out to be please delete this.
