    XP and new CPU

Planning on upgrading my CPU from a 2 core to a 4 core one. Are there any settings in XP that need to be changed, or will it just recognise and use the new cores?
  2. Like a week ago i buy a new pc , Fx 6300 , Saphire r9 270 dual x , 4gb ddr3 1600mhz ram , 960gm vgs3 fx , etc. The problem is the temperature , i use speedfan to check the temp and it marks in the "cpu" 48º , 50º in idle , i also check it with other programs like Core temp and HWMonitor and they say 30º or 35º. When i play bf3 the ºc rises up to 70º and there is when the lag spikes appears. I have a stock cooler , is this the problem? Sorry for my english , this isn't my native language. Btw there are the images. Idle: Running Bf3:
  3. Hey everyone. Is it possible to use Windows8.1 on ryzen 3000? Did anyone tried it? Someone told me that with windows 7 drivers its possible but i don't have ryzen system to test it on
  4. @bigmuscle, Hi, thanks for AG. I have seen here reports of previous versions, maybe AG 1.5.8 causing memory overload when used along with a video stream and this also happened to me. Today I use W10 17134.165 with two monitors, one for work and the other for a video stream (via browser, Chrome, flash) that is active while the pc is on. I noticed that when AG v1.5.9 is active it causes an overload in my processor of some 30% more which gets to produce shorts freezes in the movement of the mouse and windows. So I can not use AG today. Any movement on the screens, even the mouse, causes an increase in the CPU. Opening a browser also produces a large CPU increment. I already downloaded symbols and it did not solve and a dwm reset solves temporarily. Is it only with me? Regards GTI
  5. While Windows NT based operating systems use the HLT instruction while the CPU is idle, Windows 95 and 98 (and maybe Windows ME) do a busy loop instead, which tends to use more power and run hotter. There are a few programs available that are able to run HLT instructions to sleep the CPU when it is idle, and supposedly make Windows 9x run cooler. http://www.benchtest.com/cooler.html I'm wondering if anyone has experience with these programs on actual hardware, and knows if they are worth it to save power and reduce CPU temps.
  6. I have a beef with Windows 7. On occasions I start up my laptop to find very slow performance. I then come to find that svchost.exe is hogging 80%+ of my CPU. Now, I'm using a 10 year old laptop with a Pentium M 2.13GHz, but... Windows 7 does perform well on this hardware when the CPU is fully available (especially since I have an SSD). Killing svchost in Task Manager results in greatly reduced CPU usage, strange behaviour, and the process only starts itself again. The solution to this CPU hogging at the moment is to just wait until it subsides. Of course, I have no idea when that will happen... Any suggestions?
  7. Hello reader, I've got a windows 98 SE problem: I installed windows 98 on a Thinkpad T-21 which has a Pentium III around 600 Mhz if not more, a few days later I moved the hdd to an other laptop, a Compaq Armada E500 and windows started to install and (I think) change cpu drivers, it suddenly talked about 'installing Pentium II stuff bla.' A few hours later I moved it back to the T-21 and those E500 drivers are still there ! Z-cpu now only gives 200mhz ! and it is really slowing down the laptop, I only expirienced this recently for some reason, (I did the driver swapping a few days ago.) Could I have any help with this ? is there a way to change the drivers, or do I have to make a dirty or clean install ? I can give you a list of system drivers if you want. Thanks.
  8. Hey guys, I have a slight problem with my CPU cooler being too big and wanting to upgrade my memory. I have a ASUS P8Z77-V LK motherboard and a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. Because I am using the G.Skill Ribsaw, I can only seem to fit in the two chips in the second slots because either the CPU cooler is so big that it blocks the first channel for the ram or its just because the ram is too tall. Now I can install more ram if I swap the fan on the other side, but it'll be blowing the wrong direction, right now I have to set so the fan is blowing air through the heatsink, which I think is keeping my computer really cool right now. Because I have it set like this, it just blocks the first channel and I can't get any more rim to fit..and even when I installed the first chip on the second first channel, I still had to remove the cooler's fan to get it in there. If anyone else had this issue before, I would like to know what you did because I've been really wanting to get another 8gb kit to make it 16gb. Here's a pic of my comp to show you exactly what I'm talking about.
  9. I'm on Windows 8.1 Enterprise right now. And I having hight CPU load last 2 days by svchost. How could I discover what exactly uses CPU?
  10. Hi I recently got a new laptop with Windows 8. For some reason CPU utilization constantly hovers around 25 - 55% even when I am not running any programs. In the last few weeks, I have upgraded to Windows 8.1. Task manager shows system and svchost consuming most of the cycles. After reading the forums, I have tried to create and review the etl files however can't figure out the issue. I have created the most recent etl and uploaded it here using the following command "xperf -on latency -stackwalk profile -buffersize 1024 -MaxFile 256 -FileMode Circular && timeout -1 && xperf -d cpuusage.etl" Could someone review the attached file and advise? All inputs are welcome and very much appreciated. Thanks. Regards, Vg.
  11. I've read through various posts, but nothing seems to match exactly the situation I'm seeing. I have a Sony Vaio laptop running Windows 8.1 64 bit which is showing a constant 20% cpu usage from WmiPrvSE. I don't see instructions on how to determine what is being loaded by the WMI Provider Host from the trace file. I've uploaded the trace file here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B39RE7vcQxdPMHYwbGdSMGJHeEk/edit?usp=sharing Any help with specifics or a pointer to how I can read the etl file to determine what exactly is being loaded and using so many cpu cycles would be highly appreciated. Rob.
