  1. This may be old info to many/most of you. I posted about this back in 2021 and several posted with the same want and no one ever posted a solution. I wanted to use a Win 10 style start menu with Start All Back. And I posted my desire for whoever designs these things to add that as an option. Not necessary. I stumbled on the solution. Explorer Patcher and Start All Back work together. Explorer Patcher lets you choose Windows 10 or 11 style start menus. In Start All Back turn off the setting to use enhanced classic menu and voilà, Bob's your Uncle! I really liked Start All Back from the beginning. I've just gotten used to the Windows 10 start menu. I couldn't get used to going back to one of older start menu styles and I really don't like the options for using the Windows 11 start menu. I can't tell you how happy figuring this out has made me! I get to use Start All Back and have a Win 10 start menu. The best thing (for me anyway) is how Start All Back gives the Control Panel a dark background. Just a god send. Once I got used to a dark interface (like I've been using with Illustrator and PS for years) and that glaring white hits me in the eyes I'm blind. It's really painful. Maybe I'm just late to the party and everyone else knows this, but I did search here back in 2021 and no one seemed to know how to do this. I know there were others interested. Maybe the info will help someone else.
  2. Hello MSFN, I have a problem. You know I signed up 3 months ago, right? Why this version of the Weather app from Windows 10 1703 does not work anymore. I even posted on Microsoft Community, but no reply. Now I'm here to help me with this problem. Can you do me a favor and try to fix this by replacing the API/servers in this version of the Weather app? The version is 4.46.30621.0, if you want to remember that. And please, share this with everyone, thank you.
  3. with end of support for windows 10 only 2 years away now (2025) I was wondering if there was anyway to install server 2019 updates on windows 10 to extend update support I know this has been done before with windows vista and now windows 8 so would this be possible to do on windows 10?

  5. So I've had this problem since I installed upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 about this time last year. I've asked here once around then, got no useful responses. I still need this fixed and I still cannot figure it out. So first of all. Control Panel is entirely blank. I've gone into the Group Policy Editor, selected User Configuration>Administrative Templates>Control Panel and picked "Show only specified Control Panel items" from the right. Inside, if I select "Enable" and then click the "show" button to pick control panel items to display, the list is empty. It's as if I have no control panel items whatsoever. If I open c:\Windows\system32 and find a .cpl item and try to open it, nothing happens. At all. For example, if I double click powercfg.cpl nothing happens. If I do Win+R and type powercfg.cpl, nothing happens. In the Windows Settings, I can get to Power & Sleep settings, however clicking on Advanced Power Settings does nothing. If I do Win+S and type "power plan" and attempt to select "Edit Power Plan" or "Choose a Power Plan" then nothing happens. A lot of the deeper options in the settings panel just don't work in this same way. Most of the top level things work fine. But navigating too deeply will just result in something not working at all. Although some of the top level stuff doesn't work, either. It's really just random what works and what doesn't it seems. Now here's one more thing of interest. The Device Manager. This is normally accessible through many, many different ways. The one I'm most used to is Win+Break. That doesn't work. Right clicking the Windows logo on the task bar and selecting Device Manager. That doesn't work. Win+S and typing "device manager" and clicking the result. That doesn't work. Win+I (settings) and typing Device Manager and clicking the result. Doesn't work. Win+R and typing devmgmt.msc. THAT DOES WORK. That's the only way I can get into Device Manager. So now, trouble shooting steps I've tried. I've already done sfc /scannow and everything is fine. No problems. As I mentioned, I've had this problem from the moment I installed Windows 10 (and it was a clean install on a newly formatted hard drive) and I have it on newly created test accounts as well. I've tried steps laid out here and here to no avail. At this point, I seem out of options. So what the heck is going on and how do I fix this?
  6. I can't seem to find a single link on the internet that let me download windows 10 build 9888, can someone gave me one? Thank you
  7. i have a nice aero theme on my computer with windows 10. the caption buttons are a bit wonky in some apps, but i assumed it was just a problem with the theme. i want chrome to obey my windows 7 theme, so i tried running chrome in compatibility mode set to windows 7. it obeys my theme, and more. the button sizes are exactly like they were in windows 7 perfectly replicating it with no problems. here's chrome with the windows 7 theme: and here's every other app in maximized: and normal: the title bars are off in every other app except chrome, since chrome uses custom sizes. can i force every other app to use these sizes without them breaking in maximized mode?
  8. Hi, I have the home edition of NLite and for some reason it doesn't show for example: Microsoft Office and all its software, calculator, etc. But I know they should be there to be able to get removed since I watched a few videos of others using NLite alas an older and probably free version so I don't get why it doesn't show them to me. So the help in this matter would be appreciated.
  9. Installing KB4556799 crashes AeroGlass, deinstalling restores it. UPDATE of Aero Glass required
  10. Hello StartIsBack is great But StartIsBack makes the Start menu icon larger than normal (like image), and that's inconvenient. How can this problem be solved?

  12. Greetings, Currently the reports on the frontpage do not seem to be working for some reason. I have a regular network connection trough an IPS. I tried changing it trough a VPN but still seems to block me. Could someone link me an installation here that does not go trough the download links on the frontpage? Picture of blocked download linked as attachment. P.S. Could we get some third-party hosts incase say, this same thing happens for others too? Seen few people mention this.
  13. Where in Windows 10 is the figure in picture 1 below used?? John
  14. I got locked in one of those update loops. You know what I mean, probably. My Windows 10 would start an automatic update, then fail, and then reset itself to a previous version. This would happen all of the time. I managed to use one of the methods on this link to successfully do an update: https://www.alphr.com/microsoft/1001411/how-to-fix-windows-update-in-windows-10-if-it-becomes-stuck-1 Now, here is the reason why I am making this post. In case I want to ever do a completely fresh reinstall of Windows 10, I want to know how to do this because the CD (DVD, maybe?) and all I have is the ("OEM"?) sticker with the associated ID numbers.
  15. Maybe: you need to remove, and pair the bt device after Restart...
  16. As the title says, I was doing sysprep on my PC so I could transfer the hard drive to a new system. I let it run through the night, through the morning, and I checked the log. I noticed that only every thirty minutes does sysprep take an action. What can I do to remedy this?
  17. Hi all, I want to create bootable live Windows PE on usb stick. I want to create it from Windows 10 installation i have. I wonder, how can i achive that? Any instructions? Thanks, Rami
  18. Microsoft released in a TechNet blog post on February 1st that Office 2019 (Scheduled for release later in 2018) Will only be supported on Windows 10. They also reveal in the post that it will be supported for only 7 years (5 Mainstream, 2 Extended) Rather than the usual 10 years. Office 365 will suffer a similar fate in 2020 it would seem. Source: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/windowsitpro/2018/02/01/changes-to-office-and-windows-servicing-and-support/ EDIT: Albeit unsupported, It has been made to work on Windows 8.x. Not like anyone needs new versions of office, anyways...
  19. Yep, another program that helps to prevent Windows 10 from automatically update. this one comes from NoVirusThanks, a software developer that gave the world a few programs like Exe Radar Pro. that I've read a lot good about on security-related sites. Some might find it handy. http://www.novirusthanks.org/products/win-update-stop/ Personally I didn't test. It says it supports all 32/64 bit Windows from XP to 10, but I find Win7 built-in tools for that purpose quite better than the one in Win 10 Wilders Security thread (quite brief at the moment of posting).
  20. Here's the issue When going to Word 2010 starting an envelope, we click the Address Book icon to view addresses from Outlook. It is completely empty. If we check Outlook, it has all the addresses and works fine. We just can't see the address book in Word to do envelopes. Here's what we are using: Windows 10 Home 64bit (Brand new computer - 1 week old) Office Home and Business 2010 What we've tried with no success. We created a new Outlook profile. We created a new PST file and imported the address book into that new PST file. We tried with Outlook open and closed. Other software same as previous computer which worked fine. It never worked on this new computer. I hope someone has a suggestion that might work?
  21. Wondering if someone has some atlas updated/fixed for Creator Update. @NoelC , maybe? :3 Actually, some of the Atlas I had for Anniversary Update, still works in CU, but they "paint" the windows border, which is not present anymore in "vanilla" windows and show border even on start, which is quite ugly and pointless.
  22. Is there a way to use an MUI'd Windows 10 install for an upgrade install of different languages? When I start the install from the root of the Multi-language media on a windows in a different language than the original I get a message that the upgrade isn't possible because the language is different. On Windows 7 this is not a problem. When I start setup.exe from the root of the media I get a chance to select the language and everything runs fine. On Windows 10 I have to start setup from the "sources" folder for the language selection screen to appear, but then when I select "Upgrade" setup tells me to start from the root of the media.
  23. Windows 8 and Windows 10 have a new "feature" called "Fast Startup", "Fast Boot", or "Hybrid Boot". This is a form of mini-Hibernate Mode. Unlike full Hibernate, this is not documented in the Shutdown User Interface and is enabled by default. If you Shutdown, not Restart, Windows 8 or 10, this Mode will save the File Cache in the Hibernation File. If you then modify any of these Cached Drives using a different OS Instance, then access it again from the original OS Instance, the Cache will not match what is on the Drive. If you then make changes, the Cache will be written to the Drive possibly corrupting it. Windows often writes to Drives in the background, so you can corrupt a Drive even if you do not intentionally write to it. There are numerous reports of this problem along with instructions on turning off Fast Startup on Google. I strongly recommend that anyone using Multi-Boot or swappable Drives, including Virtual ones, disable Fast Startup if using Windows 8 or 10. In a pinch, always select Restart, not Shutdown, when closing Windows 8 or 10 if Fast Startup has not been disabled. For those of you not born yesterday, never put a writable Floppy Disk into a Windows 10 system. It will be corrupted even if you don't intentionally write to it.
  24. After much of tests i was able to write a Powershell Script, that replace, all inherits of all folders and subfolders (even the one with long names), without taking the Ownership ! Reasons: - Taking the Ownership of a Windows Folder can make much Problems ! (I dont like solutions, that can make more problems than they solve, and i even dont like it, if people say, dont change Permissions of systemfolders blabla - Me, the Owner of my Harddrive, like to have R/W Permissions to all Folders, but some folders get there permission inherit from a Top Folder, and so, i wasnt able to set their permissions... so many commands iacls, dir -ad, some powershell commands and ways, just didn´t do it, but i was able to to it (R4 never gives up...) 1) You need to allow Powershellscripts - in a Powershell console (with Adminrights) run: Set-ExecutionPolicy RemoteSigned (maybe "unrestricted could do the job too, you can set it back to restricted later) 2) Then run the script (with Adminrights too) 3) THis could take a while !!! Some really rare folders (probably Symbolic NTFS Links, Junctions or Similar) give Errormessages, - you can ignore it ! cd "C:\" foreach ($i in Get-ChildItem -Recurse -Force| ?{ $_.PSIsContainer}) { echo $i.FullName $acl=Get-ACL $i.FullName $acl.SetAccessRuleProtection($True, $True) Set-Acl $i.FullName -AclObject $acl } (this little success brings me some steps forward, in getting a clean os, - next step is setting r/w permissions for buildIN Admin, and then check the 1355 dll´s i identified, that can be called by regsvr32) - (maybe i could replace reginherits too...) mfg R4D3 Edit: Uhm, sorry my Script seems to switch all folderinherits like 180 degree (good for folders with inherits, but not for folders without - SetAccessRuleProtection($True, $False) seems to be better, and with giving Adminrights this hopefully does it: Edit: Just moved $acl.SetAccessRuleProtection($True, $True) before the new rule (cause, first the existing inherits must be replaced with local one, before the new-Object Rule, took them off and give Built-In Admin permissions.... cd "C:\" foreach ($i in Get-ChildItem -Recurse -Force| ?{$_.PSIsContainer}){ echo $i.FullName $acl=Get-ACL $i.FullName $person=[System.Security.Principal.NTAccount]"BUILTIN\Administrators" $access=[System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemRights]"FullControl" $inheritance=[System.Security.AccessControl.InheritanceFlags]"ObjectInherit" $propagation=[System.Security.AccessControl.PropagationFlags]"None" $type=[System.Security.AccessControl.AccessControlType]"Allow" $acl.SetAccessRuleProtection($True, $True) $rule=New-Object System.Security.AccessControl.FileSystemAccessRule($person,$access,$inheritance,$propagation,$type) $acl.AddAccessRule($rule) $acl.SetAccessRule($rule) Set-Acl $i.FullName -AclObject $acl }
  25. In my opinion it looks good, (not as well as AG) and is very well optimized, what do you think? Do you like this kind of "transparency" and "blur"?
