Cancelled project... The first part of this post is for historical significance only. This topic is specifically to discuss development of Winternight-Classic (which is an upcoming fork of the Firefox 3.0 codebase, but with support for the deprecated "Windows" GFX toolkit, Visual C++ 6.0, and Windows NT4/9x support included). The purpose of Winternight-Classic is to have a fork of Firefox that is "lightweight", but still supports semi-modern web technologies, and also still supporting Windows NT4/9x and Visual C++ 6.0. Update: After making Firefox 1.5.0.12 compile using Visual C++ 5.0 SP3, having trouble with making RetroZilla (fork of Firefox 2.0) work with Visual C++ 5.0 SP3, and me still not having a working build of Firefox 3.0 using Visual C++ 6.0 and the Windows GFX toolkit (3.0a7 works though, but I can only support Windows 9x, and picture scaling is broken, with 3.0a2 being the last working version for that on the Windows GFX toolkit), it is probably for the best that I stick to Gecko 1.8.x, whether that is 1.8.0 (preferred), or 1.8.1 (what RetroZilla is based on). I personally like the lightweight UI of Firefox 1.5 too. Update 2: I was able to compile a Mozilla/Gecko 1.9.0a1 codebase snapshot from November 2006 using Visual C++ 5.0 SP3. Also, after reverting bug 371434, pictures now display properly in my Windows GFX modded version of Firefox 3.0a7. When I make Firefox 3.0.19 compile using the Windows GFX toolkit, and add Windows 95 compatibility, this project will no longer be marked as cancelled. -
I have been working on an updated version of SeaMonkey 1.1.19 (Firefox 2) for Windows 95 and NT4. I plan to backport CSS features over from newer versions of the browser, as well as modify the browser to work better with the modern web and improve user experience on older OSes. (I plan to include an optional hosts file that blocks Facebook and Google Analytics URLs, which will speed up the web greatly.) Right now, it is just a rebrand, but I am working on newer features and I do accept contributors. GitHub Page Latest Release -
Hello! I apologise if I might have posted in the wrong forum, but I have a problem here. For some reason, when attempting to access the Google homepage on Internet Explorer 6 SP1 under Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 2000, I get a page not found error: On a Windows 95 machine running Internet Explorer 5.5 SP2, I can access Google just fine: By the way, can anyone also try to access the Wikipedia webpage under IE5 or IE6 when running under Windows 9x, ME, Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000? This was tested using the Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0 virtual machines running under Microsoft Virtual PC 2007. What can be done to access Google and Wikipedia under IE6 and other old browsers, btw?

After more than a year of running Windows 95 OSR2 on the Toshiba Tecra 720CDT laptop, I'm have found that it is becoming unreliable. I already bought a Compact Flash to IDE hard drive adapter and I will use one of the SanDisk Ultra 8 GB Compact Flash card to use as a internal hard disk. I bought a Syba Best Connectivity 2.5" IDE 44-pin to Dual Compact Flash Adapter for $14.17 and I'm going to use the SanDisk 8GB Ultra CF card (SDCFH-008G-A11) as the boot device on the Toshiba Tecra 720CDT laptop and the SanDisk Ultra 8 GB (SDCFHS-008G-AFFP) card as the PCMCIA drive. This is especially the case since ATA-33 IDE hard drives are no longer sold as new. I'm considering re-installing Windows NT 4.0 Workstation on the Tecra 720CDT laptop after getting the CF card installed on the CF-to-IDE card although I should be aware that neither the Tecra 720CDT laptop nor Windows NT 4.0 supports hard disks and other media larger than 7.88 GB...so, I'm maxing out the hard drive and memory. Since Windows NT 4.0 uses the NTFS 4.0 file system, how well will Windows NT 4.0 play out when it is installed on the compact flash card? I personally found that compact flash cards are more reliable than MLC SSDs as far as I know. Thoughts, anyone?
