  1. Basically all sub dirs under the i386 dir need to be placed under the wnpe or what ever you may call it. You may need to check your hexing program. I would not advise using the built iso image in your multiboot.

  2. Hi!

I was wondering where Gosh got the DAT files from? Can they be extracted from the Windows XP CD? I use a Danish Windows XP so I think it might be a good idea to get the Danish versions? If there are Danish versions? Help!

    Thanks a lot in advance

Yes try nu2 productions website Bart has a nice little tool to do this.

  3. Hi!

I've created an unattended XP DVD. And I've created a BartPE CD. Now I'd like to combine them on one DVD with some kind of simple boot menu.

I tried to follow Gosh's guide for WinPE, but I'm having problems.

I hope someone will help me.

I'll describe what I did when trying to follow Gosh (http://gosh.msfnhosting.com/part3.htm)

1 - Put winbom.ini on the root of the cd - it has to be there or WinPE won't boot.

    Yep, that was pretty simple.

2 - Rename your WinPE folder to WNPE.  In the WNPE folder you should have txtsetup.sif, setupldr.bin, etc.

OK, I renamed the folder i386 to WNPE.

3 - Hex setupldr.bin in the WNPE folder, and replace i386 with WNPE

I did this using Hex Workshop.

4 - Use an XP Boot sectory (such as VOL1.DAT), and rename it to WNPE.DAT (all capital letters).  Hex WNPE.DAT and replace i386 with WNPE.

HereI had problems. I downloaded a zip-file with VOL1 among some other DAT-files from Gosh. He says to replace "i386" with "WNPE" but the string "i386" is not found in the file WNPE.DAT (formerly VOL1.DAT). I guess it's a typo, and he means replace "VOL1" with "WNPE" but I'm not sure? I assumed I was right though, and did the editing.

But I have now idead what he means be "Use an XP Boot sector(y?)". Use it? How? (I am a newbie). So I'm kind of stuck here, I don't know what to do next?

5 - Add WinPE to your boot menu, such as diskemu.cmd or cdshell.ini, whatever you use.  Have the menu run WNPE.DAT.

My boot menu? I don't have one yet. I haven't searched to forums for this one yet, though.

    Thanks a lot in advance

I expanded the original i386 folder into wnpe or whatever you want to call it.

When you Hex edit the vol1.dat etc try in uppercase eg I386 instrad of i386

There are plenty of boot menus out there you need to look for them.

  4. Hmmn, not so sure about your RAMDRIVE - with mine I had loads of problems until I copied flyakites guide (Obviously we need to create a ramdrive with the necessary tools loaded into it - which I got wrong!!). All I can suggest is try and copy what this page says and try it to see what happens:

    http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com/98se.htm

Also it looks like you have a two disk 98 boot disk, did you combine them into one 2.88MB image? if so you can remove these lines (It's not important but it cleans things up a bit - less to check for mistakes :)):

    ===============================================

    :ERROR

    IF EXIST ebd.cab GOTO EXT

echo Please insert Windows 98 Startup Disk 2

    echo.

    pause

    GOTO ERROR

    :EXT

    ===============================================

Mindst you, after thinking about it  - you only get this problem on a couple of machines don't you? not all machines - try a bios upgrade as alot of PC's don't support the bootable cd standard properly.

Certain this image is from a single 1.44mb floppy of 98se.

I have basically followed Chris guide, I had trouble with his downloadable bootdisks recently with the 2k one seemed to be missing files then I produced the boot files using Goshs method with no problems.

  5. Thanks for your input I'll check these in both my bootdisks pretty sure theyre right but you never know.

Please find my Autoexec.bat & Config. sys files

  6. Gosh, where can I find BOOT.DAT or VOL1.DAT?

Sorry to butt in but you can down load them directly off Goshs site.

If not pm me with your details & i'll send them to you.

Fastest response from the forum yet! :)

No problem "butting in"! I had a hard time finding them on Gosh's site, but finally found them due to your confirmation that they should be there (somewhere!).

    Thanks!

Just use any of the dat files, change name & Hex as required.

  7. I just slipstreamed the current service pack to an already post service pack two office cd. Just wondering what size this should be mine is approx 624mb & only appeared to be about 4mb larger than the source?

  8. No, but you could be onto it the seagate HD has been operating a little weird of late. Ill try swapping drives & see if that helps.

NickB834 you were spot on with the HD it appears this ones knackered.

    Thanks for your input.

  9. I have sucessfully created the Multi DVD with XP Pro & Home, 2K, 98 SE & ME.

Only problem I see if I use this disk on another box say I boot it up on the DVD E drive both 98se & ME complain it cannot find the setup on drive D.

When I do this on my machine DVD drive D its works fine how can I overcome this problem?
