  1. I need help. Unable to play Ubisofts "Brothers in Arms Earned in Blood" Here is process. I just got a new computer with Windows 7. Game worked OK on XP. Game installs OK, but when i try to start game the Starforce Protection Box comes up and then I get the message that "Windows requires a digitally signed driver". The specific driver in question is noted as (Version1.x). I tried updating the driver via the starforce site download, but I got the message from Windows 7 that the driver is incompatible with Windows 7. Next I try the Starforce driver removal download and then get the message that the driver is not present. The error message gives the problem location as: C:\Windows\System32\SFdrvvol.sys Would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks. West
  2. I will soon be getting a new computer with Windows 7. Am I likely to experience problems running Microsoft Flight Sim X???
  3. Tripredacus: Regarding the spelling of the program. It is daemon.exe Westley
  4. When I go to shut down my computer, I get a message that dameon.exe is closing a program. But at the end it says that program not responding. I cannot then shut down unless I use the button on the computer to shut down. Can someone help me with this issue?? Thanks Westley
  5. Kotuku: Thanks and my friend thanks you also. We uninstalled the program he did not want. Thanks many. Westley
  6. Randy: Still gone today. Thanks again. Westley
  7. I have a very simple problem. A friend has Vista and wants to uninstall a program, but he cannot locate in the control panel any icon for "add remove programs" which is present in Windows XP. Can someone tell me where he can look to find a way to uninstall. Thanks Westley
  8. Randy: Disregard my previous response about the download selected. The update was there but I could not see it because I had selected download updates automatically. Next I changed auto updates back to my original selection that I wanted to be notified and that I would download updates myself. Your method however did work so far. I downloaded as you instructed. Rebooted my computer. Then I shut down again because the KB967715 was downloaded automatically and was sitting on my off button to install when I shut down. I shut off the computer and got the message that an install was occurring. I waited about 4 minutes before the computer shut off. All previous shutdowns with this download, the computer shut down after about 1 minute. I then turned the computer back on and the icon did not reappear. Problem solved. I hope. I will let you know if it reappears, but it looks like the fix worked. Thanks. Westley
  9. Omega Omega: Mine appears to be corrected...nothing I did, but here is the sequence. 1. I disabled auto updates. 2. The next day i went to turn off the computer and it had an update to be installed. Previously I had selected to inform me when downloads were ready and I would install them myself. 3. Next, I checked my system and saw that automatic installation was selected. (I did not choose this) Nevertheless, I decided to allow the automatic check to install the download. 4. When I restarted, the hated icon was gone. I assume that the install was successful. Conclusion: Autoupdates did not like my choosing to self install....go figure. Westley
  10. I have just shutdown auto updates...I will check weekly to see what updates I need and download and install all but the hated KB967715. Take that !!! Microsoft and go stuff yourself. Westley
  11. webtimi: if you cannot offer any help then your wisecracks are not necessary!!!!! If anyone else out there is continuing to have the problem with this auto update problem please let me know so I can let the Dell support people know. For those of you that tried to be help, i appreciate your efforts.
  12. What do you mean "need a case". Since my copy of xp was installed by Dell, I cannot get support from microsoft without a hefty charge. Exactly what are my options?? If any. Westley
  13. I have run dial-a-fix at least 3 times with no change with this problem. Regarding Regedit, I cannot find : HKLM/Software/Microsoft/OLE. Can someone help me how to find this in Regedit?? Westley
  14. There has been no more help with this problem. Is it unsolvable??? Or has everyone lost interest in a solution??? Westley
  15. Smurf1: I sent an e-mail , but have not received a reply. I am still stuck with this uninstalled update. Westley
  16. Randy: I have Windows XP Home Edition. I did look at regedit and like you did not see the file either. If you try it and it works perhaps I will give it a try. Cheers Westley
  17. i do not feel competent to fool around with the registry system....my computer has crashed in the past for making changes that I have no idea what I am doing. how do you reset the auto update program? Westley
  18. Iceman: The icon is back and still uninstalled. Whatever I did it was not right and I was having lock problems so I ran system restore to 3/2. Then I ran dial-a-fix as you recommended. The icon came back again. Then I again tried a manuel install, but no luck still not recognized as installed. 19. To everybody: Thanks for helping. I do not know what I did, but the hated icon is gone and it appears that the install occurred. From what I can remember I did the following: 1. I disabled auto updates. 2. Next I changed from auto update option 2 to option 1. 3. Next I got a download for netframework 2.0 which I downloaded 4. Next i got the hated auto start update and downloaded using the auto update program. 5. Next my computer would not shut down so I had to turn off via the computer off switch. 6. When I restarted, the hated program was gone. That is about all I can remember, but I don't give a rat's behind...problem gone. Thanks to all of you for helping Westley
  20. Unable to attach log; however, I did try to manually install without success. When I restart, I get the same result.
  21. Sorry I provided the wrong log. Here is log KB967715. I manually installed again today, but with the same result. I am submitting the log in an attachment. Thanks again to all. Sorry for cluttering.
  22. I am posting this because I cannot figure out how to delete my post. I was asked to put the post into an attachment which I will do.
  23. [KB960715.log] Greetings All: Here is my log. If there are any geniuses out there you can let me know what all this gibberish means. Thanks to every one for trying to help. The first person who responded gave me the link to download and install manually. I did do this; however, I still get the yellow guard (!) telling me to download the update which is the same update. Thanks again to all.
