  1. I usually download the updates using WUD (Windows Updates Downloader) with the most up-to-date .ulz file, and after that I use W7_Updater. Then I use UltraISO to replace the last W7 DVD disk with the newly-generated file install.wim, because it goes way over 2Gb and, as most of you already know, it can't be used under ISO9660 conditions. --ThundernetBR
  2. I've tried many tips to solve this problem. In my case it was pretty easy, after all: I got Windows Update Agent 3.0 somewhere, installed it after a fresh XP install, and Windows Update became normal again. I did not used WUA 7.6 nor 7.4, it got fixed after Windows Update itself downloaded the latest WUA... weird, as many things that do happen with MS software ! --ThundernetBR
  3. Any chance to get this thread updated ? So it will be nice to have a .Net installer ranging from 1.0 to 3.5SP1 with no updates at Windows Update... Here in Brazil lots of people still use XP SP3, and even I'm not included between these people, I work with older computers for many clients and, also, with some non-profit organizations that 'recycle' used computers to insert more people on the 'digital world'.

Hi there, I like to install Windows XP SP3 with all the updates, so I can sit after the installation and just have a cup of coffee... instead of waiting to get the updates one by one using Windows Update or Microsoft Update. But for the last few months, I've updated my XP ISO just by adding the hotfixes using a batch called 'adiciona.cmd', being this one called at the end of RunOnceEx.cmd. The file is growing and being too annoying to edit every time I have to update the ISO, so I decided to request help from you, to get all the updates 'slipstreamed' or, at least, installed earlier - using the RunOnceEx.cmd, for instance.   11. The Nero SDK is an amazing tool. I was able to not only compile the 7.11.6.0 Lite but also 7.11.6.0 Micro, 8.3.2.1 Lite and 8.3.2.1 Micro versions on my native language (Brazilian Portuguese). : One thing that people have to be aware is that is necessary about 1.8-2.0 Gb free space on the drive that you are compiling your version(s) using the SDK, but the good news is that you can perform both the Lite and Micro compilations one just after another (if doing for the same version of Nero - and NOT at the same time), so you will save lots of time (and disk space), because only the 5th step must be done separately (for the Lite and Micro .iss files) to accomplish it. --ThundernetBR
  12. This method seems to be the most elegant of all, but how do I accomplish it ? Which switches may I use to make it unattended, silent and also ready-to-go ? Is the 'iesetup.exe' inside \i386\updates or \i386\svcpack folders ? Is it a standalone .exe, or do I have to make a SFX from the IE7-WindowsXP-x86-<your-language-here>.exe file ?   13. Actually, it IS a big deal, because this thread covers not only the XP hotfixes and updates, but ALSO 2k and 2003. Maybe the best way would be to open a new thread, covering only the post-SP3 XP hotfixes from now on. And would be nice to have another thread (in the right place here at MSFN) covering Office hotifxes. Just a suggestion. --ThundernetBR

  15. Tomcat76, you can include on your first post that your method works also on Brazilian Portuguese versions of Windows 2000 SP4 (.NET 1.1 and 2.0) and XP SP2 (.NET 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0). Great job ! Unfortunally MS didn't make the newest SP's available to us as stand-alone installers or runtime, at least not in my native language. But I've been using the 'traditional' workaround: after installing all the stuff, connect to WU and got the updates with no problems. Hope you all have a HAPPY NEW YEAR !

  17. Well guys, I am a member that have learned A LOT from you since my registration at MSFN. I am still trying to figure out many things that still do have a 'mistery veil' in Windows' World. From time to time I still do searches on older posts, just to try to follow some footprints of yours and make things clearer in my mind. I've learned so much on XP uA CDs and as much as I can I help some people on forums here in Brazil that don't know English very well. Maybe that's my way to give my 2 cents , even not being here...   18. It would be very nice, I agree with Sprudeldudel, because there are a lot of things that 'bloated' Nero to a size that's obviously useless for the most of us. It would be nice to see a complete how-to on doing Nero7 customized packages. Mine would be only with Burning ROM and Express, along with Info Tools, and nothing more than a couple of plug-ins, because I have a UA XPSP2 DVD and would like to add some useful programs (WinRAR, Nero, Grisoft's AVG, Spybot S&D, latest DX9c and so on) on it. --ThundernetBR

I can say it does work with Brazilian Portuguese (PTB or PT-BR) language, for the individual 3 packages and for any combination of them (DNF11_20.exe or DNF11_30.exe) ! But... is there a way to silently - I mean REALLY silently, with no progression bars, no information of decompressing files showing whatsoever at T-13 - install the DNF11_20.exe file (which I usually put under i386\update folder and list it at SVCPACK.INF along with the hotfixes on my unattended XP SP2 CD) ? Which switches may I use ? (I'm using /Q:A /R:N, but both the progression bars and 'extracting setup files' messages keep been showing... ) Also, using RunOnceEx.cmd, which switches must I use to accomplish a fully silent installation of DNF30.exe ? Are those annoying messages (something weird like 'Windows Foundation') gone with the current (20070710 #2) version ? Thanks a lot, --ThundernetBR PS.   21. Hi blankmonkey, it has been a mess for me also when I tried to use the /integrate option with XP or 2003 hotfixes. For some reason, even when they worked, at Windows Update some of them kept being shown as 'uninstalled'... So I managed to make them work using the other strategy, using the SVCPACK.INF method (and with a folder under i386 named svcpack ou update - you pick the one you like the most, but don't forget to put the chosen referenced at SVCPACK.INF, this file itself must be under i386 folder). I think it's better to do this way for a single reason: you can update and/or remove the hotfixes superceeded by new ones each month, looking at the topic that once was runned by Incroyable Hulk here. Oh, just a little advice: don't forget to use a RW media, since if you're unexperienced, you'll probably make lots of 'coasters' using CD-Rs... Go at that topic tomorrow (because today M$ is launching another bunch of hfixes for their products) and see how you can do it seamlessly ! --ThundernetBR
  22. I'm not sure if this has been discussed before (I didn't found any topic about it - I do apologize if it was). But I think it's a waste of time if we have to rebuild a new HFSLIPped CD from the scratch every time M$ launches their hotfixes, or a newer DX version... 1. Is it possible to burn each month (at the time M$ launches the hotfixes) a newer, up-to-date HFSLIPped CD, using the previous one as a source ? Or do I have to pick all the hotfixes launched since the last OS Service Pack and rebuild all the CD from the scratch ? 2. For DirectX versions, is it also possible to only 're-slipstream' or 're-integrate' the newer one to a CD also using a previously HFSLIPped CD as the source ? 3. Can I proceed in the same way about WMP versions ? Particularly about W2K and WMP9, is there a way to replace an existing version of WMP9 (or WMP8) with the newest WMP9 version ? 4. How do I make a fully unattended HFSLIPped CD that can also be used to recover damaged installed OSes ? Because as long as I am aware of, if you use the string "FullyUnattended" somewhere at WINNT.SIF, you cannot use the same CD as a recovery tool... Thank you all for your replies ! --ThundernetBR
