1. btw, what can be done to prevent KB973687 from overwriting the newer msmxl6.dll in KB973686?

I have these two updates in HF directory and KB973687 doesn't overwrite the newer msxml6.dll - KB973686 is slipstreamed after KB973687 because of the name of the first one (msxml6-KB973686-enu-x86.exe). I have msxml6.dll 6.20.2003.0.

hi Parseus! partly the reason why i brought this up was because mine in system32 has msxml6.dll 6.20.1103.0 which comes from KB973687 so i'm thinking it could've overwritten what KB973686, specifically what SP3 has. i'm thinking though that hfslip would not allow that to happen since afaik it only takes in the newer ver (either based on time-stamp or ver #) to the new iso. i'm baffled as to why i have an older ver though. :no: in your case though, it's kinda odd since if your premise is alphabetical integration, then msxml6-KB973686-enu-x86.exe gets processed 1st compared to WindowsXP-KB973687-x86-ENU.exe. may i ask too why you have both in HF as KB97386 was shipped with sp3? perhaps, then with your setup we must still integrate KB97386 to end up with newer msmxl6.dll. i'm hoping we can all get clarity on this (perhaps an update to Mim0's table or comments from other members who have more definitive resolution). cheers!

hi Sp0iLedBrAt! didn't work even after slipstreaming drivers :( posted my issues here & here too (i.e, vid resolution, vid driver + dx)

btw, has snakejv addressed his concerns? i wonder what happened & it'd be informative to read about how he resolved it.

3. hello! just a little clarification needed with: Update for Windows XP (KB973687) - WindowsXP-KB973687-x86-ENU.exe has MSXML6.dll

6.20.1103.0 while Update for MSXML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973686) - msxml6-KB973686-enu-x86.exe has MSXML6.dll 6.20.2003.0 ... doesn't KB973687 revert what is in KB973686?

also, i think it is worth adding something about KB973686 being included in SP3 to this:

2009-11-26

New but not to integrate:

· MSXML 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973686)

in Mimo's Windows XP Service Pack 3 update-list ... your thoughts Mim0? thanks!
Hi Kiki,

I didn't remember why I thought KB973686 was not to integrate. But I think, you're right, KB973686 is worth to be listed.

Thx, Mimo

hi Mim0! my apologies if i confused you. there was nothing wrong with what you noted in the table as indeed there's no need to include it. i'm only suggesting to add maybe a little note about it being shipped with xp sp3 ... sp3 includes MSXML 6.0 SP2. ;) a little more info from here could help such as:
Version 6, 4, and 3 may all be installed and running concurrently.
if i may direct you to this, info could be vital too. :)

cheers!

btw, what can be done to prevent KB973687 from overwriting the newer msmxl6.dll in KB973686?

5. hi strel! just a couple of inquiries:

i got this in my latest run:

NOTE: WIC will be removed from 3.0 SP2 framework.
Use another source to install it before 3.0 SP2 framework. See guide.

Environment variable ECHO NOTE: msxml6.msi will be used instead of any not defin
ed
even if it has not the lastest files.

NOTE: XPS print driver will be removed from 3.0 SP2 framework.
Use another source to install it. See guide.

should Environment variable ECHO appear as opposed to prior & succeeding lines which do not have it?

if i have Update for MSXML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2 (KB973686) - msxml6-KB973686-enu-x86.exe, i don't need Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML) 6.0 - msxml6.msi, correct?

compared the files when extracted but here are the details i got:

msxml6.msi

msxml6.dll.86F857F6_A743_463D_B2FE_98CB5F727E09

MSXML6.dll

msxml6r.dll.86F857F6_A743_463D_B2FE_98CB5F727E09

MSXML6R.dll

6.00.3883.0

VS

msxml6-KB973686-enu-x86.exe

msxml6.dll.86F857F6_A743_463D_B2FE_98CB5F727E09

6.20.2003.0

msxml6r.dll.86F857F6_A743_463D_B2FE_98CB5F727E09

MSXML6R.dll

6.00.3883.0

on 1 hand, Update for Windows XP (KB973687) - WindowsXP-KB973687-x86-ENU.exe has

MSXML6.dll

6.20.1103.0

thanks!

- Removed: KB959772 (wmp.dll 11.0.5721.5260) replaced by KB973540 (wmp.dll 11.0.5721.5268)

hi Mim0! just something minor ... KB959772 has already been removed & replaced, right? table 9 shows:
2010-01-08

Added:

· KB959772

could be a little confusing since i compared other removed & added notes you have in other rows. should it now show as Removed instead?

how about this:

Probably I have to wrote some more comments in the INI, e.g. that's only values has to set manually which are not default, but anyway, for hfslipfc it's important what it's shown at the start (at the first "press any key...").
;)

and this one:

Also, while this
like hfslip.log ;)
hfslipfc nopause >hfslipfc.log :D
is easy enough, the few times I've run the tool I've usually forgotten and had to run it again or cut and paste from the command window. It might be nice for there to be a Log - Yes or No line in hfslipfc.ini perhaps. Your thoughts?
;)

kindly see too what i posted here about MSXML6.dll.

cheers!

7. @Kiki - I forgot, sorry! I will address that I promise!
:hello: looking forward to it when you have the spare time to accommodate it so i can try it out in my new build attempts. my msfn mailbox though is full. external e-mail would be great. appreciate it. cheers!
8. hey Mim0! thanks for the immediate reply ...

these were the 2 lines pertaining to the warning:

File Not Found

FINDSTR: Cannot open WORK\GETLCIDD.TXT

was this for WindowsXP-KB944043-v3-x86-ENU.exe? this particular error hasn't come up in recent runs though

as for WindowsXP-KB944043-v3-x86-ENU.exe, i knew that was a new addition to the list ... already have it & just waiting for the result of the latest run for posting ... ok, no error posted this time

presenting some runs concerning WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe:

here are different scenarios i tried:

(1) SP= , SOURCE with SP2 integrated (win51ip.SP2) ---> no error

(2) SP=3, SOURCE with SP2 integrated (win51ip.SP2) --->

Checking existing updates for wrong, obsolete or unknown:

---------------------------------------------------------

wrong (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

(3) SP= , no SOURCE ---> no error

(4) SP=3, no SOURCE --->

Checking existing updates for wrong, obsolete or unknown:

---------------------------------------------------------

wrong (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

(5) SP= , SOURCE with SP3 integrated (win51p.SP3) --->

Checking existing updates for wrong, obsolete or unknown:

---------------------------------------------------------

wrong (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

(6) SP=3, SOURCE with SP3 integrated (win51p.SP3) ---> this one was strange (& confusing) ... i was expecting, there'd be no error here (since both conditions of SP3 are the same) but then again, here's the result:

Checking existing updates for wrong, obsolete or unknown:

---------------------------------------------------------

wrong (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

indeed, i have WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe in HF which i think is only being identified as wrong if manually assigned SP=3 while SOURCE doesn't have what is expected: win51ip.SP3 cd tag ... which brings me back to the conflict between having manually assigned values for SP= in hfslipfc.ini vs hfslipfc.cmd checking on SOURCE's cd tag (win51ip.SPx) ... say for some reason a user unintentionally assigned value to SP= in hfslipfc.ini which is different with the SP level of SOURCE, then the error comes up ... hehe! i'm not trying to make this difficult for you Mim0 ... just running tests & suggesting since atm, i think the value of SP= in hfslipfc.ini must be the same with cd tag (win51ip.SPx) in SOURCE :P

cheers!

9. thanks Glowy ... exactly what i posted. ;) i'm certain Mim0 would have already adjusted that by this current attachment.

that was quick Mim0! appreciate this. :) i'll run it now & report back.

cheers!

reporting back Mim0 ...

tried 3 quick runs ... with & without SOURCE, leaving default values for both SP= & LANG= while 1 with set value for SP in hfslipfc.ini

1st run (with SOURCE), i got these:

------------------------------------------
File-Checker (Build 2010/01/07) for HFSLIP
See following site for further details:

missing (O): HF\WindowsXP-KB944043-v3-x86-ENU.exe (Windows Server 2008 read-only
domain controller compatibility pack)

i got File Not Found warning ... as for the 2nd 1 about WindowsXP-KB944043-v3-x86-ENU.exe, i don't think this is in the current list. i suppose you'd put it up there when you update the tables. ;) i have just downloaded the file & will run your tool with it in HF

2nd run (without SOURCE ... i just removed the tags for testing purposes), it turned out well but still with the KB944043-v3 prompt

3rd run (with SOURCE & manually set SP=3) , this, together with + KB944043-v3 prompt, came back:

Checking existing updates for wrong, obsolete or unknown:
---------------------------------------------------------
wrong (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

how about checking for presence of any of the tags: win51ip.SP1, win51ip.SP2, win51ip.SP3 instead of SP level portion in hfslipfc.ini or PRODSPEC.ini?
That's already the way how I check the SP-level :)
hope you don't mind if i ask --- what is the portion of manual setting SP level for in hfslipfc.ini? wouldn't this be the source for identifying SP as wrong, say cdtag is different from what was manually set?

your thoughts ...

thanks!

10. any chance for identifying extracted dx cabs (maybe through wildcards)?

cheers!

It's done! :D
thanks!

- Added: Checking files of already extracted DX9-Update

need clarification on the following:

is SOURCE a pre-requisite prior to running hfslipfc.cmd for the purpose of SP3 integration or as expressed in the change log --- for the need to read PRODSPEC.ini, specifically the Localization portion?

how about checking for presence of any of the tags: win51ip.SP1, win51ip.SP2, win51ip.SP3 instead of SP level portion in hfslipfc.ini or PRODSPEC.ini? i may be incorrect but i checked xp gold cd as well as xp cds with sp1, sp2 & sp3 integrated & they all just show this same info:

Product=Windows XP Professional

Version=5.0

Localization=English

ServicePackNumber=0

BitVersion=40

for the purpose of hfslipfc.cmd & hfslipfc.ini, is presence of WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe still required if SOURCE already has SP3 slipstreamed?

in the midst of all these, these items perhaps need remedy:

HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe (Service Pack 3 for Windows XP)

HF\windowsmedia11-kb944882-x8 6-intl.exe (Fix: Memory increase

s for each media file transfer )

improper identification of language (or absence of its prerequisites) results to files being tagged as unknown, missing, or wrong

i suppose answers to some queries presented here are obvious, but it'd be good to know for clarification purposes.

your work is appreciated Mim0. :thumbup

cheers!

11. Meanwhile I am about to introduce XP fileset 1.

It is very preliminary and leaves IE in for now.

this is exciting ... tp just recently posted xp reducers. looking forward ...

btw, fdv, i hope you received the e-mail i sent you to the address you gave me. have you by any chance seen it?

should there be anything, please let me know.

been reading from your site but i'm just not sure if my other concerns (by following the directions i could work on 1 though but perhaps not all) for xp sp3 are there.

appreciate the help.

cheers!

... in my previous build though using hfslip-1.5.0 (last 071607), powershell 1.0 was installed correctly with shortcuts visible in the start menu ... could be worth a look how this kind of files should be handled ... cheers!

checked on the following updates too (just for possibilities) but no similar files exist:

msxml4-KB973685-enu.exe

Description of an update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 3

msxml4-KB973686-enu.exe

Description of an update for Microsoft MSXML Core Services 6.0 Service Pack 2

WindowsXP-KB973687-x86-ENU.exe

Description of updates for Microsoft MSXML Core Services 3.0 and MSXML Core Services 6.0

WindowsXP-KB969084-x86-enu.exe

Description of the Remote Desktop Connection 7.0 client update for Remote Desktop Services (RDS) for Windows XP SP3, Windows Vista SP1, and Windows Vista SP2

* here's a background about_Format.ps1xml

SHORT DESCRIPTION

The Format.ps1xml files in Windows PowerShell define the default display

of objects in the Windows PowerShell console. You can create your own

Format.ps1xml files to change the display of objects or to define default

displays for new object types that you create in Windows PowerShell.

nb: removed urls as i got this prompt:

You have entered a link to a website that the administrator does not allow links to
upon submission of this post ... just do a quick search fr ms website. ;)

hmm ... strange, i tried it again & it got through ... :blink:

13. hi karmatron! seeing your processdata.txt reveals the following:

DNF20OFFICE2K3DEBUGGER=

DNF30MSXML6=

DNF35FFCLICKONCEEXT=

you're processing 2.0 2x ... as for the others, you got those since you left the specific .ini settings blank ... i suppose you have other sources/addons for those ... cheers!

14. hi Mim0! did a run using the latest hfslipfc-100104 & here are some observations:

SP3 id is still prevalent (as in my prev post)

despite these:

\HF\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

\HF\WindowsXP-KB951618-v2-x86-ENU.exe

, these show:

i've just added 951618-v2 but it says i don't have it ... did a 2nd run but still the same

also, i noticed that you've removed tables 8 (Resources of update information) & 9 (Reported missing updates)

cheers!

15. hi Mim0! just a few observations after running the latest hfslipfc:

thanks!

16. hi Tomalak & M2GD! it's strange for it not to work in in HFSVCPACK (posted here 1 of my trials before) ... these were some of my settings though:

TARGETOS=XP

T13ADDONS=YES

ROEADDONS=

ALSOINSTALLERS=YES

MERGE_FRAMEWORKS=YES

having this in mind:

ALSOINSTALLERS setting only works if any XXXADDONS=YES, otherwise is not used.
... & i don't use any lang pack ... i'll try to do a run again & see :)
