  1. hey hey! it feels great to be welcomed again. it's great to be back although life's much busier now with a bigger family & more responsibilities. MSFN was part of my daily routine before & still consider this my home. :)

hopefully, this time the image uploaded. pretty simple concern but have only been using windows 10 for 5 months ... after finally switching from my favorite windows XP (such the sincere need for HFSLIP --- which i certainly miss.)

    hope everybody's well.

  2. hi again MSFN. been a while since i was last here. (don't even know how to attach image here now (not from a url) in my post.) please accept my apologies for starting a new topic but i tried a quick & didn't find any topic similar to my concern. i can barely see selections & i don't have 3rd party theme installed. kindly see attached image. i am hoping there are some settings i can apply to have darker distinction between selected & deselected items. appreciate your feedback.

  3. very interesting :D hope you 2 have a great time. regards to TC!

... could be wishful thinking ... but should TC come back, would TP be on board too? :D

    cheers & God bless!

  4. hello!

it might not be legitimate to do so but i would like to know if it would be possible to run ms-office from a usb key? we currently face a big productivity concern in our workplace as they are pulling-out licensed ms-office applications in exchange for engaging more with other employees (rather than be stuck in workstations while working on some admin & ad-hoc deliverables). as such, for those (myself included) who cannot live without ms-office, efficiency in terms of deliverables will certainly experience major down time. openoffice has been installed too but users prefer ms-office (ms-outlook too rather than use webmail where tables cannot be pasted, among other constraints). as such, we're wondering if we could install our personal ms-office (licensed) and run it via usb key or external hard drive. is this doable?

    cheers!

  5. hello Mim0! been a while since i created my last build & here i am again trying to read back on lots of stuff i know i have missed & need to familiarize myself with again. i am thankful you are still maintaining hfslipfc & making hfslip live on. my last build based on what i have i add/remove program was: v1.7.9 build 091109. 1 quick question though, would there be a similar file or method (similar to what -X- employs) used via hfslipfc that downloads all updates listed in your table & moves to designated hfslip directories (i.e., hf, hftools, etc.)? atm, i have wget in hftools & my apologies but i thought that should do the trick. appreciate your reply. cheers!

  6. thanks dadiehl but the apps can't even be accessed because error comes up rightaway. :( i tried to reinstall office 2010 via method 2 as suggested in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3B310353 & it installed completely without Error 1406; however, as i feared as soon as i started the program, i encountered the vicious cycle again of Microsoft (PowerPoint/Outlook) has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. <Restart Microsoft PowerPoint/Outlook> <Send Error Report> <Don't Send>. ... (didn't matter whether i sent the report or not ... no difference in results) ... then the suggestion to run the app(s) in safe mode ... then after it failed, the prompt to repair ... then after it completed the repair (that is if Error 1406 didn't come up), relaunching the program(s) would go through the same cycle again ... even tried it with a different installer by downloading X16-32007.exe (trial version of office 2010 from MS) & still the same ... :( i'm about to give up & i guess my only route is to reinstall XP & lose all the updates since. if however anybody could help me with this, i'd really appreciate it. please.

    cheers!

  7. hello! i've been trying to find the source of my problems with both powerpoint & outlook 2010.

i used to have office 2003 fully updated (even with 2007 compatibility packs & service packs) & i just upgraded (option was to remove previous versions) to en_office_professional_plus_2010_x86_515486.

excel, word & publisher all load up well but not for powerpoint & outlook.

specifically i get the same errors for both:

upon initial launch, error reporting always shows:

Microsoft PowerPoint has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. <Restart Microsoft Outlook> <Send Error Report> <Don't Send>

    Error signature:

    AppName: powerpnt.exe AppVer: 14.0.4754.1000 AppStamp:4b967cf0

    ModName: ppcore.dll ModVer: 14.0.4754.1000 ModStamp:4b967d28

    fDebug: 0 Offset: 006c81de

(The following files will be included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~1\KIKI\LOCALS~1\Temp\5811281.cvr)

    Event Viewer has these:

PowerPoint failed to start correctly last time. Starting PowerPoint in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.

Do you want to start PowerPoint in safe mode? <Yes> <No> --- this fails after clicking ok & immediately followed by:

PowerPoint failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair? --- opting to repair will proceed with the install & then after repair completes, launching the program will have the same results.

exactly the same thing happens to outlook:

Microsoft Outlook has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. <Restart Microsoft Outlook> <Send Error Report> <Don't Send>

    Error signature:

    AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 14.0.4760.1000 AppStamp:4ba8fefd

    ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 ModStamp:00000000

    fDebug: 0 Offset: 40384dbc

(The following files will be included in this error report: C:\DOCUME~1\KIKI\LOCALS~1\Temp\4889328.cvr)

Outlook failed to start correctly last time. Starting Outlook in safe mode will help you correct or isolate a startup problem in order to successfully start the program. Some functionality may be disabled in this mode.

Do you want to start Outlook in safe mode? <Yes> <No>

Outlook failed to launch in safe mode. Do you want to start repair? <Yes> <No>

uninstalled (via add/remove programs) & reinstalled everything with the same results. uninstalled everything again ... even used fix me (by ms --- running all for 2003, 2007 & 2010, restarted the pc after every run & ran ccleaner too before every reinstall) & reinstalled (even with anti-virus disabled) again with the same results.

i've done about 6 or more reinstallations. in the 1st attempt i was prompted to browse (in C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\..) for pss10r.chm & could not find the file so installation was not completed. i repeated the install & this time it went through (but still same behavior for both apps after). in another reinstall i encountered:

Error 1406: Setup cannot write the value Class to the registry key\Software\Classes\CLSID\{000CDB0D-0000-0000-C000-000000000046]\InprocServer32\14.0.0.0. Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information on how to contact PSS, see PSS10R.CHM. <Cancel> <Retry> <Ignore>.

opted to retry (about 3-4 times) but did not bring me anywhere. ignore came up with a similar error but this time instead of value Class to, it was value Assemby to. succeeding ignore came up with similar error but with value RuntimeVersion to ... 3rd time ignore proceeded & completed the install. values inside { } also changed after each single attempt. (same was true when running a repair for a supposedly completed installation.)

in short, errors just cycle without being able to use powerpoint & outlook at all.

just to be sure, i extracted the contents of en_office_professional_plus_2010_x86_515486.exe & pss10r.chm was there.

verified too its presence right before installation (after extraction phase): C:\Documents and Settings\KIKI\Local Settings\Temp\OWP22.tmp\Office.en-us\pss10r.chm

tried to follow too instructions from: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/838687 but not much was applicable for office 2010.

all efforts have been very frustrating. :( i've hit a brick wall & i would really appreciate anyone's kindest support to be able to resolve this & use powerpoint & excel too.

by the way, i am using xp sp3.

    cheers!

  8. Does anyone know the direct link for the new WMP11 installer? I'm on Linux at the moment so can't validate and download to get the link :}
is this the one you're looking for? ;)
I think that's the link to the old installer. The one I'm looking for is whatever the download link is from validating through this page http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=1d224714-e238-4e45-8668-5166114010ca
my apologies if that wasn't the correct link ... although it says on the page 6/22/2010. cheers!
  9. whoa ... this recent development has indeed depressed me though this i think was forthcoming, thus wasn't surprising as tommyp had been always warning those who used hfslip for corporate environment while others even demanded changes as if this was a paid technical support service :( embarrassing to admit this in public but it was my sincerest intention to donate even a little amount had i not been in between jobs for the past year (in fact, lots of other domestic plans have been put on hold too) ... the best way i thought i could compensate though in my little ways was to test for bugs + make suggestions to others hfslip users if they encounter concerns i've already experienced whenever i could afford to be online.

tommyp, tomcat, fdv, mimo, muppet hunter & everybody else who contributed to the success of hfslip, since the start i've been a very vocal & proud user of hfslip & please know too that i'll forever be grateful to hfslip & wish the best for the authors. hopefully, tommyp would have a change of heart, tomcat would 1 day return, fdv would continue to support hfslip or that by any chance someone would step up to take the lead to continue developing this wonderful & very handy piece of os utility. for now, just like what geej posted, it is with heavy heart i must accept this hfslip fate.

    cheers! god bless!

  10. appreciate all efforts that come this. i'm certain this will benefit a lot of users out there. it's just a bit sad that development of nLite has stalled. hopefully all's well with nuhi. cheers!

  11. bphlpt, GrofLuigi, Tripredacus - appreciate what you guys have shared! :D

    submix8c, VideoRipper - thanks again! :)

didn't notice before the Tunner adapter portions when running ipconfig /all ... could be from the driver update offered by WU

really just wondering howcome when connecting the lenovo i don't need to do something else other than plug in the ethernet cable ... with the acer i had problems like i consulted you guys about & now for me to get connection, i always need to restart the cable modem (& disconnect/reconnect the ethernet cable) ... as for the learned address, like what i posted above it has been refreshed from what i previously posted as it now looks like this:

    # Known CPE MAC Address Status

    1 00:1a:de:95:f6:ba Self

    2 00:23:8b:1c:af:15 Learned

atm, i'm opening cabinets & looking for my still unused router (i think i got it from Vonage) ... & see if i could find my way around your suggestions for better connection experience.

    cheers!
