  1. I removed the modem support for a few pc's and now when I try to connect a cell phone to any of them to transfer files, XP complains of having no "modem support". Is there a way to add back drivers, files, reg entries, etc?? I thought I remember seeing a few threads on this but could not find them.
  2. It looks like he only removes a few "components". I guess the add features still works with this config?
  3. I have recently vlite win2k8 x64 and yes it works. However with removing a few components the Add Features feature does not work that well, if at all for some components. Still trying to figure it out....
  4. Has anything changed with the Add features working in Server 2008?
  5. Yes, the integrated worked and after using Windows Update it successfully downloaded and installed 2-3 updates automatically!! Yes, all updates seem good now, but not the add features: Pic
  6. You should not break it by just adding stuff. I know removing winsxs can cause issues and removing other components as well can break it. Add a couple things at a time and see how it works.

  8. Removing winsxs doesn't break Windows Update. You'll be always notified that new updates are available but some of them (most of them) won't install. You'll get an error Yea I made a new image and left in winsxs and Wu seems to work and install updates fine. However now my installed image is twice as large! I guess thats about as good as we can get for now.... ** the only thing I see wrong now is that add windows features (i tried to add deasktop exp) starts to install and gets to the end and always says element not found... Any ideas? I guess this feature is broken since I removed too many comps?? LOL
  9. So your saying that even if you manually download the updates they still wont install if WU is removed, right?
  10. Ok, I am trying to keep windows update so I can continue to get automatic updates on my Server 2008 build. However I am trying to remove as much as possible by removing the Component cache winsxs! However Windows Update needs the winsxs. Is there anyway around this or any other options?
  11. Well I did some further testing: I created a new iso and left in the HTML engine and got the same error. So then I left in HTML and .NET. Now its working fine! So I guess .NET is needed for this mmc to work? Gonna mess with it now to see if there are any other issues.
  12. I guess I removed too much...Any idea which one of these items made this break? I think it must be one of these: ** Actually these are 2 separate errors. oobe occurs on bootup and the other opening comp mgmgt.
