  1. How can you also include the anti-virus right click option?

I have the silent install working a treat by extracting the files and running that command to install:

    CFPCONFG.EXE -i -s

At last a proper silent install without all that AutioIt stuff!

    BUT

I don't have any right click option to scan files and folders.

I am looking in the registry to see if I can make a reg tweak for it.

    EDIT:

No need for a reg tweak just register the cavshell.dll thats in the COMODO folder and its there, easy.

  2. Did anyone find out why Vista constantly reboots?

I am getting the exact same problem, but on Vista SP2 (x86).

I am quite sure it is because I removed "winsxs (Component Cache)" and also, added hotfixes.

    I can:

Add hotfixes and not remove the winsxs stuff

Remove the winsxs stuff and not add hotfixes

    I cannot:

    Add hotfixes and remove winsxs

  3. i should have some new removal batch files ready in a few days, along with a new guide?

    :thumbup

I am also eventually going to have a big bat file to remove stuff.

    @LeveL

the Backup folder is the place of the WRP (Windows Resource Protection). This is what you know from XP called WFP (Windows File Protection).

So you mean its like "dllcache" was in XP?

Always gets me that you could just put a corrupt/edited/nasty version of a file in the dllcache and it would restore that copy to system32, or is that true, I can't remember. It came up with blue text as well that folder, very special!

  4. files inside the WinSxS\Backup folder are not hardlinks, so this is the cause why your ISO might be smaller.

But removing hardlinks doesn't free up space.

No I cleared out the Backup folder ages ago, these are the winsxs folders themselves.

  5. no mass!

You simply don't understand Fusion and SxS:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/junfeng/archive/2005/04/05/405449.aspx

    http://blogs.msdn.com/junfeng/archive/2006/04/14/576314.aspx

    http://www.grimes.demon.co.uk/workshops/fusWSThirteen.htm

Starting with Vista MS puts all the DLLs versioned into the WinSxS folder and links them to the direction folders. Deleting files only REMOVED HARDLINKS, no files and does not free up space!

How come about 80Mb was taken off the ISO then?

Then another 100Mb or so from removing more folders still?

Some might be hard links showing size to them where there is none, but others are certainly files.

  6. Has anyone come up with any kind of a list for the folders its safe to remove from winsxs yet?

I don't know why Microsoft can't just give them names you can understand.

Why do the folders have overly complicated names, for example:

    x86_microsoft-windows-grouppolicy-base_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_27f9b80248563b76

    Why isn't it just called:

    x86_grouppolicy-base_001_6.1.7600.16385_none_001

    ???

    Why all the massive numbers?

    31bf3856ad364e35?

    27f9b80248563b76?

Why THOSE numbers! Do we have billions upon billions upon billions of files? Nope. So then why does it have 31bf3856ad364e35 part way through and 27f9b80248563b76 at the end?

Are they trying to make these paths extremely long for a reason?

The best I can do is use FolderSizes and just remove say 10 at a time but lets see 10 folders at a time and there are over 4500 folders thats 450 installs I would have to do, not including all the times I would have to go back because one folder of the last 10 is needed.

There has to be an easier way. Don't tell me only MS knows what is in these folders?

EDIT: I just opened the WIM in Muiz Vista Tool and checked with FolderSizes, the biggest folder there now is this:

    x86_microsoft-windows-winocr-ocrengines_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_a31b6cff9464aa03

    It is 41.6Mb.

But errrr... what the hell is it? Google brings up 3 results, none really say much.

This is what I mean! Its hard dealing even with one folder, and there are more than 4500 left after this.

Some say they got winsxs down to 350Mb! I wish I knew how, mine is still at 1.20Gb now and I have removed:

Printer Drivers (easy, the PRN* folders)

    Modem Drivers (mdm* folders)

    Intel Driver

    ATI Driver

    nVidia Driver

    After that I am lost!

Agent Ransack is good, just untick Expert User and untick "Sub-Folders" (no need to search the sub-folders thank god) and just search the mounted WIM for "inf" it has over 400 folders there, duplicated drivers... now why would you ever need that?

    Heres just 10 of them:

    x86_1394.inf.resources_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_en-us_629143d483332d09

    WHAT A COMPLETE MESS. :realmad:

EDIT: I can confirm removing all the folders with dot inf ".inf" in the name, Windows still installs, at least in VMware Workstation it does. My real system of course has radically different devices/hardware.

  7. The problem is we are using a program made to reduce the size of Windows Vista... on Windows 7.

For example, vLite says in "Users/Public" there are over 400Mb of media files. Maybe on Vista thats true, but in Windows 7 these files amount to only 41Mb not 400Mb.

vLite says the Speech Support components takes up 450Mb. Maybe on Vista thats true, but in Windows 7 the Speech folder in Windows is merely 172Mb, not over 450Mb.

Will there ever be a tool like vLite but for Windows 7?

If not then I am not using vLite because I do not even know what it is removing anymore.

Totally unrelated things break other totally unreleated things etc.

Can't understand why some are "persevering" with vLite.

Why can't we just delete the folders from the mounted WIM image? Then we actually know whats happening, plus all you'd need is to run a batch file then to remove stuff.

  8. I should be playing with this tonight as I want to be able to make unattendedly...

Maybe applying the tweak to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT" like we used to on XP (at the early stage from cmdlines.txt) could work, but in Windows 7 where is the equivelant of "cmdlines.txt" ???

I already tried to make it run from the unattended XML with a <FirstLogonCommand> to run it but nothing changed, it did nopt have Quick Launch.

Kel made a Quick Launch enabler CAB file addon for nLite but I have never seen one for Vista and now, the Taskbar in Windows 7 is different anyway, even to Vista.

On XP though, all you did was set the Taskbar up, reboot, then export a certain reg key, change the "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\" to "HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\" and make cmdlines.txt import it. Then again I often just gave up on that and used the Kel addon, but that was XP, I don't think we are going to find one for Windows 7 yet and even then, vLite cannot put addons into Windows 7.

  9. Anyone?

I tried putting this in the Autounattend.xml between </OOBE> and </component>

    			<FirstLogonCommands>
    <SynchronousCommand wcm:action="add">
    <Order>1</Order>
    <CommandLine>%systemroot%\Install\QL.cmd</CommandLine>
    </SynchronousCommand>
    </FirstLogonCommands>

QL.cmd is a simple batch file that just runs a registry file like so:

It does not work, or the AUtounattend.xml does not work, or both.

    Anyone found an anser yet?

Isn't there a CAB addon for vLite or something? There is for nLite and XP.

  10. Oh god. I put setup.exe back in the sources folder but its giving me that error again about not finding the driver.

It worked the other day when I did the same thing - now it doesn't again.

Yes I did the install_tweak and I also removed packages first before I used vLite and I removed "Manual Install (setup.exe)" in vLite.

Says driver not found but I already made a rough one a few days ago where it works, why!

EDIT: Ignore me I was accidentally using setup.exe from the root of the DVD as opposed to the one from the sources folder, both are totally different!

This is the same mistake as the other day. :blushing:

  11. No but i'm working on it cause I don't care for their new method

It seems near-impossible to have Quick Launch with the divider, enabled upon installation, on Windows 7.

Its classed as a "Toolbar" just like in Vista and XP! But exporting "TaskbarWinXP" hex from the "Streams" key (like in XP) doesn't work in 7.

For Windows XP ToggleQL will do the job.

    ToggleQL

    toggleql.exe 1

    ---> Quick Launch On

    toggleql.exe 0

    ---> Quick Launch Off

    Regards

    Urs

I wish they made this for Windows 7.

I posted my own long winded post asking really the same, how to enable it so you don't have to do anything manually.

  12. I never grasped this even on Windows XP, or Vista, although CAB addons were made for nLite to make Quick Launch work.

This time its Windows 7 and once more, Microsoft has changed it and hence perhaps has also changed the registry keys from Vista? I do not know the tweak for Vista either.

What reg keys do I need to export to save changes (as a reg tweak) to the taskbar?

I know to delete these 2 files in the mounted WIM image, this removes the 2 icons on the taskbar next to the blue orb start button:

    Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Internet Explorer.lnk
    Users\Administrator\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\Windows Explorer.lnk

Aside from this I am doing a lot of stuff, how can I make a reg tweak do ALL of this:

Right-click the taskbar, choose Toolbars / New Toolbar. In the folder selection dialog, enter the following string...

    %userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

...thrn hit OK. Right click the taskbar and untick "Lock the taskbar". This will then make a divider appear (a column of tiny dots just on the left of where it says "Quick Launch" on the taskbar) Quick Launch is on the right at the moment, right-click on the divider and make sure that “Show text” and “Show title” are disabled (unticked). Use the dividers to rearrange the toolbar ordering to choice. You can move the Quick Launch divider over to the left, like on XP, also then you can "Unpin" every icon from the task bar. Thats it, you are left with Quick Launch like it was on previous versions of Windows.

Wow! Its a real pain to do all that and I wonder how to actually do it unattended.

Well I did try using installrite to capture it, then make all the changes, reboot and capture the changes in installrite but even then, it does not work!

I cant believe how hard this is.

  13. only things needed are install.wim boot.wim and setup.exe and remove Manual Install using vLite that's it and the setup.exe from the original image in the sources folder

OK thanks. You mean the sources folder itself needs setup.exe putting in?

I have no setup.exe on the root and no autorun.inf either. Just setup.exe in sources

It does work now after using vLite to take out manual setup. :thumbup

EDIT: Nevermind I was being an a$$, 2 setups, of course there's not 2 setups, unless you UPX it and forgot you did it, lol

I still don't understand 1 thing: Why is it safe to remove the file vLite put there? I don't know but it is! I mean that CLG file.

  14. Does anyone know which package to remove to allow deletion of the files in the sources folder (manual setup)?

Even then vLite gives you a new file in that folder install_Windows 7 ULTIMATE.clg so I am sure you have to keep that at least (and of course the 2 WIM files)?

I got errors removing all those packages last time, but then I was using the dead0 bat file and its not for 7600.

If you only have to remove one package that allows those files in the sources folder to be removed, which package?

  16. Says this now on Windows 7 final x86.

    Error while rebuilding image.

The file doesn't exist, it seems to rebuild the whole "install.tmp" before it craps out with this error and deletes the .tmp file, before it turns into a .wim file.

EDIT: I think I found the problem - my HDD is full. :thumbup

  17. 7lite

If I had a dollar for every time...

It would shake the Earth if Nuhi made a 7lite but I don't reckon he is.

Its possible to remove components with dism.exe though.

Don't even ask me "how" but thats how.

Someone should make a "WAIK 1.1 Lite" for starters. :)

Nearly swore then, then remembered its MSFN, urgh.

  18. Uhhh, really old thread... SP2 is and has been out for a while... And I don't remember getting this "nag screen"...

You still need that setting in winnt.sif despite it being on SP2.

Well it is on SP2 now but this stupid nag screen still comes up even though the installation had all hotfixes slipstreamed into it. When I visit Windows Update it says that "No high priority updates are needed for your computer".

So the winnt.sif entry and disabling of the Windows Firewall is still the only way to stop the nag screen? I don't believe this nag screen is related to the firewall, the nag screen itself will simply be a 1 that needs changing to a 0 or "Shown" changed to 1 or whatever, the Firewall doesn't dictate whether this nag screen shows and disabling the Firewall is pretty silly IMO just to stop a nag screen.
