  1. You can uninstall the nvidia stuff by add/remove programs and selecting network manager, that also uninstalls the firewall.

The access denied message comes up because you might not be logged in as administrator, make sure your user account has administrator priveleges.

  2. I also have this mobo

One of the ports is nvidia drivers and the other is marvell yukon, all the drivers for the mobo are on the disk that came with it.

When installing the nvidia lan, make sure when the pop up box comes up that you say no to the nvidia firewall and network manager, it screws everything up from past experience.

If you installed all drivers that came on mobo disk then you should not have any unknown devices unless you added in PCI cards for other devices, bluetooth etc

    Hope this helps

  3. Hi

Can anybody help me with trying to find the title of a spagetti western movie for a quiz?

It is a Clint Eastwood one, and he is standing in a crowd of people watching a game where 2 guys are throwing dynamite around and trying to get rid of it before it blows up in there hand.

The camera switches between a view of eastwood and a mexican looking guy.

And then the dynamite blows up and the other guy wins a $100 dollar, and the guy who lost says,"Can't beat you at no game".

if anybody can help it would b good!!

  4. Sorry, should have waited a bit longer to start moaning!!

Ok cheers, but it is happening every time I restart my machine so al just leave it on 24 hours from now on, if my new heatsink can handle that!

I might have a play about with Microsoft Wireless media desktop bundle I have, as it is not recognised to be used to navigate bios, have to wait till XP loads to get a response. IU have USB legacy enaled

    Doing my head in!

  5. Hi Guys, I apologise in advance for what might be a long winded post!

I recently built my own rig

    Athlon 64 3500+

    Asus A8n-Sli Deluxe

    1Gb Corsair

    Asus 6600 256Mb

    200Gb SATA

    20Gb IDE

Anyways, everything was going well with my machine, and then I oticed a noise from the chipset fan, which Asus has confirmed is defective on there A8n board, they offred to send me there updated heatsink/fan but I decided to go for the Zalman Northbridge heatsink everybody was suggesting.

    Successfully installed it last night.

Before I got my heatsink, while still using the old one, I noticed that my version of XP on my IDE when booting was hanging with a very faint screen on the winXP logo, then suddenly after 20 seconds it would brighten up and the progress bar would move and boot normally, I just put it down to the chipset overheating with the fan being faulty. It wasnt happening for my SATA install of XP (have a MCE 2005 and SP2 version).

After installing the new Zalman I thought it would be fixed, but now it is happening for both drives. SATA and IDE.

I had thought it could be to do with Micorsoft Media Deskop, wireless keyboard and mouse that I have, it does not seem to work in the bios screen, I cant actually use it untill XP loads. Have tried enabling USB legacy support.

Has anybody got any ideas? If you can be bothered to read this post!!

    Cheers

  7. Hi

I have recently set up a pc, and bought a wireless keyboard and mouse from cherry:

    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo...ProductID=15982

When i first started my computer it picked up the wireless mouse and keyboard in bios, then I installed WindowsXp, and installed Cherrys software

It picks up the mouse fine, but not the keyboard presses, although it does recognize a keyboard is connected.

They are connected via PS2, somebody told me that there might not be enough power to run both wireless devices from PS2, could this be the fault?

Anyways, I then tried the generic microsoft drivers and that didint work either, so my last resort was to change the frequencies of the devices incase of interference, but surprise surprise that failed aswell.

    any ideas are greatly needed

    Cheers

  8. Go through C:\Documents and Settings\ and click on the username where your files are kept. Copy everything in this folder, Favourites, Cookies, Application Data, My documents etc

Then go to your new username in the documents and settings folder and ccopy the files into it. It will ask if you want to overwrite files as the folder names already exist. Hit yes.

Do not delete the old account untill you are sure all files are transferred.

  9. There must be a program which loads at startup that looks for a file from the floppy.

Use Run--->MSCONFIG and click on the startup tab. Uncheck any programs that are not needed at startup and then restart.

If you are unsure on which programs to uncheck then post it.

  10. Control Panel is limited in changing user accounts,

    use this

    START------>Run----->mmc---->File--->Add-Remove Snap-In-->Add-->Local Users and Groups

Then change your fullname and user name etc to what you want folder name to be.

If that fails aswell, just make a new account with your desired name and copy your excisting files into it.

  11. When your computer is loading. Press F2 to enter setup (or whichever key your PC specifies.)

Go to the boot sequence options and change the floppy drive to the last device, and your hard drive as the first boot device.

The floppy drive will not be accessed anymore as the hard drive will boot up first.

    Hope this helps

  12. You have to log in as somebody else, not the username you want to change.

Either use control panel, or RUN----->MMC to change the user account name, this will then change the folder name.

You cannot just change the folder name and leave your login name unchanged.

  13. Hi,

Was wondering if anybody could help. I am usually quite good with computer problems, and a mate brought in an 80Gb disk that has suddenly stopped working.

I managed to get the disk set up as a slave, and it has 2 partitions on it, but in MyComputer when I try to access partitions, I get the message that the disk must be formatted.

I used Run--->MMC and added the disk management snap-in, and noticed that the partitions have no filesystem, it is in raw format. Does this mean that data is lost, or can I recover it? Also tried CHKDSK, SCANDISK and gave partition magic a go, but nothing recognises the disk.

    Cheers
