  1. stop the service, and rename the folder C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution to C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution_old, start WindowsUpdate service again and look if you can now seatch for updates
  2. try different drivers and look if this fixes it.
  3. in Win8,the issue is fixed. It uses less RAM by default, but here you have a new commandline option to use the win7 way and use all RAM:
  4. the issues come from nvlddmkm.sys, which is the nVIDIA GPU driver. Which driver version do you use? Try different drivers
  5. I had to install a XP VM to install drivers/software for my old phone to backup all messages/contacts. I can't undestand why someone still uses this ugly UX (look&feel and the ugly way of using it like no search in Start) of Windows XP :no:
  6. they already have it ported, this is Windows RT
  7. try this theme: http://saarineames.deviantart.com/art/Classic-AE-2-5-3-Final-343638171
  8. the error means this: ERROR_EA_FILE_CORRUPT winerror.h# The extended attribute file on the mounted file system is corrupt.You should ask a "friend" to get a proper 8.1 ISO with the november Update included. But don't ask here, this is not allowed. Google should help.
  9. The error 80070020 means ERROR_SHARING_VIOLATION: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. disable/remove McAfee before trying to install Updates.
  10. why don't you use ClassicShell? This was designed to bring the XP Starmenu back. StartIsBack brings the winVista/7 one back.
  11. @MrMaguire no, POSReady is built on 32Bit WindowsXP, not 2003.
  12. I dumped the ETL into the txt summary and here you can see that the driver DDDriver64Dcsa.sys is the cause: Total = 38 for module DDDriver64Dcsa.sysElapsed Time, > 0 usecs AND <= 1 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 1 usecs AND <= 2 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 2 usecs AND <= 4 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 4 usecs AND <= 8 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 8 usecs AND <= 16 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 16 usecs AND <= 32 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 32 usecs AND <= 64 usecs, 1, or 2.63%Elapsed Time, > 64 usecs AND <= 128 usecs, 2, or 5.26%Elapsed Time, > 128 usecs AND <= 256 usecs, 5, or 13.16%Elapsed Time, > 256 usecs AND <= 512 usecs, 13, or 34.21%Elapsed Time, > 512 usecs AND <= 1024 usecs, 6, or 15.79%Elapsed Time, > 1024 usecs AND <= 2048 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 2048 usecs AND <= 4096 usecs, 6, or 15.79%Elapsed Time, > 4096 usecs AND <= 8192 usecs, 4, or 10.53%Elapsed Time, > 8192 usecs AND <= 16384 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 16384 usecs AND <= 32768 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 32768 usecs AND <= 65536 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 65536 usecs AND <= 131072 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 131072 usecs AND <= 262144 usecs, 0, or 0.00%Elapsed Time, > 262144 usecs AND <= 524288 usecs, 1, or 2.63%Total, 38This looks like a Dell driver. Update or remove this driver.

  15. share the dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump
  16. do you use the latest version of aero glass? Also post the debug.log.
  17. You should always install updates. I also only reboot once a month to restart after Patchday, this is fine
  18. ETW is nice. Now you can capture CPU, DISK usage and the WU activity and see how WU impacts your system. Those old log was useless as hell.
