Looking for defrag choices for 2003 server

For Windows Server 2003 R2
This section applies only if you have the first release of Windows Server 2003 R2 where disc 1 contains Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 1. If the product discs that you have do not specify which service pack is included, the discs contain Windows Server 2003 with SP1. If you have the second release of Windows Server 2003 R2 where disc 1 contains Windows Server 2003 with SP2, you do not need to integrate disc 1 and SP2 because disc 1 already contains SP2.
To create an integrated installation of Windows Server 2003 R2 and SP2
1. Connect to the network or computer where you want to create the distribution folder.
2. Create the shared folder and ensure that only system administrators have full access to this folder. (Other users should have only Read and Execute permissions.)
3. In the shared folder, create a distribution folder for the Windows Server 2003 R2 disc 1 installation files. For example, to create a distribution folder named WS2003\x86\CD1, type:
mkdir Drive:\WS2003\x86\CD1
4. To verify that you have assigned appropriate permissions to users who are installing the service pack:
1.Navigate to the appropriate folder, right-click it, and then click Properties.
2.Click the Sharing tab, and then click Share This Folder.
3.In Share Name, type a name for the folder.
4.Click Permissions, and then assign permissions that allow users to install the service pack from this folder.
5.If you are using an NTFS file system partition, click the Security tab, confirm that the permissions listed there do not conflict with those on the Sharing tab, and then click OK.
5. Insert disc 1 into the CD-ROM drive, and copy the contents to the distribution folder. For example, to copy the contents in the CD-ROM drive (D:) to the distribution folder named WS2003\x86\CD1 on the E: drive, type:
xcopy /E D:\ E:\WS2003\x86\CD1
6. Remove the Windows Server 2003 R2 disc 1, and insert the SP2 CD.
7. Apply the source files for the service pack to the installation files. For example, for a 32-bit version of Windows Server 2003 in the folder named WS2003\x86\CD1, type:
WindowsServer2003-KB914961-SP2-XXX-LLL.exe /integrate:Drive:\WS2003\x86\CD1
8. Service pack files are extracted and then applied to the operating system files to update your shared distribution folder. You can either use the files from this folder to make a CD (32-bit versions only) to upgrade your servers, or you can customize Setup for Windows Server 2003 as necessary. For more information about how to customize Setup, view Help by typing i386\winnt32.exe /? at the command prompt in theshared distribution folder.
9. Insert your Windows Server 2003 R2 disc 2 into the CD-ROM drive, and copy the contents to the distribution folder. For example, to copy the contents in the CD-ROM drive (D:) to the distribution folder named WS2003\x86\CD2 on the E: drive, type:
xcopy /E D:\ E:\WS2003\x86\CD2
10. You can now deploy the integrated version of disc 1 and the installation files for disc 2 to your computers from the shared folder in either attended or unattended Setup mode.

Anybody got a tool or app or even some command line ideas how i would go about automating files shares for the domain and from client computers. I got file shares all over my network and its gotten a little old after the 20th file share setting them up and setting the ACL for each file share. Im looking for something to simplify this process any comments and i would be greatly appreciative.

Im referring to be able to use/access the "Domain Controller Security Policy," and "Domain Security Policy" within the Administrative Tools panels of the Control Panel of the domain controller itself. Im seeing the errors come up up about every 5 minutes. I applied some configurations to the systems and the domain however Im unable to get back back in. Ill give that df utilty deal a shot see what happens. Will let you know how it goes.

anyone got a clue as to why one wouldnt be able to access the group policy for the domain controller or the domain security. I just keep getting an error popup saying Im not authorized when Im logged in as admin Ive tried logging in as a another user with admin rights but still no luck everthings running great Ive got an internal domain with 4 other computers joined to the domain running winroute as a proxy for internet conectivity for the domain. On the domain itself I set it up to forward requests to my isp then removed all the root hints seeing as how its a internal domain then raised the function to server 2003 seeing as Im only running xp clients and dont need connectivity to other domain controllers. I checked my log files and the only thing that keeps popping up a "Userenv" Event Id 1030 and 1058 stating the obvious that it cant query the GPO.
anyone with a clue let me know i would really like to buckle down my server through the group policy.

to set forwarders on your dns server just r-click on your dns server go to properties then go to tab Forwarders then input the ip's click add and wallah ...

Hey there cluberti, thanks for the heads up even pros sometimes need some reassurance its always the easiest things that will sometimes make you question yourself because it just seemed to easy.

Heres my setup Ive got the server setup as a domain running DNS that also serves my internet connection and Im using Kerio winroute to share my internet connection to my other computers within my internal domain. When i initially configured DNS I set it to forward unresolved queries to my ISP's DNS server is this the ideal solution?
Or am missing something ? Dont get me wrong it works but what I want to know is my active directory secure from the the internet or do i need to do something more.

The service pack for server 2003 is it not the same one for R2 just curios because I've been having probs installing it. This is the one I'm trying to install WindowsServer2003-KB914961-SP2-x86-ENU = 369 mb anybody got any input for me.

Hey there -I- thanx for the input yeah i had originally planned to go with smoothwall for the connection sharing but decided against it due to the banners and ads they have. This though looks very promising i will definetely give this a spin but only after i see how difficult or not it is to setup what i had questioned and how this server can handle with connection sharing. You know, knowledge is power and knowing how to do something is power. So when people ask i can respond with the answer and give some guidance on the subject. Instead of responding with the typical response of which even i am guilty of in the past when dealing with people "Get a Router Their Dirt Cheap !!" but now with my present circumstances living in the republic of panama and not knowing alot of spanish and dealing the the isp cable and wireless where they are tight lipped about anything and everything dealing with connection sharing.Im getting close though i can feel it i think their connection is tied to the mac address of the usb modem.

heres the deal though im currently living the republic of panama, cable and wireless dont offer any other modems than the speedtouch 330 usb model where you connect and install the drivers and your done. Not knowing much spanish doesnt help much either though. Yeah nothing would please me more than to chuck the usb deal but i would need to know whats going on behind the scenes when the usb modem connects. so far all i know is that it is RFC1483 dont know much about that any input i would definetely appreciate it. Ive never been a fan of usb connectivety for networking. But here ive had to to make due.

just wondering if anyone had if their were any tutorials out there on how i would go about setting up a domain for 4 computers 1 being server 2003. Im not trying to host a web site or anything just need the convenience of logging on from any computer within the domain while the server allows for ics throughout the domain.
Is this an optimal way or are their alternatives to the ICS for server 2003 ?
Would appreciate any input,
