  1. Try this,go to safe mode, remove the sound card and all drivers, reboot and have windows detect the new hardware, and install the latest drivers. Have a copy of the drivers in a folder on the desktop to install. Have you checked the setting in the control panel for multimedia, go to advance in play back.

  3. Glad it worked out for you. Yes there is no driver install for Me just for 98. The flash drive has everything it needs on the drive preloaded. http://www.supportusb.com/ I did find this in the musb6E file [strings] VENDOR = "PNY" MfgName = "PNY"
  4. http://www.usbflashdrive.org/usbfd_faq.html#oldcomputer What is the make of the drive? Did you install the drivers before you plug the drive in? One time when I was installing a sim card reader I had to disable one of the cdr because the card reader always wanted to list it as drive E removable drive. Windows Me should support it out of the box with no driver installed, might need to check the drive letters
  5. Have you tried Avast for email and anti virus? I also use Sygate version 2710 for a firewall, both are free Avast home edition and Sygate was taken over but the last freeware version is all you will need for 98. Make sure you use sygate 2710 because the next version had a bug for 98.Norton will cause allot of problems and are real memory hogs.
  6. What are you showing in device manager in safe mode? Is there any problem devices showing? If it is something like the sound card or other device that is not needed to get windows to boot disable it for latter install. Check your startup folder for any programs that is not needed for windows to boot. If it is a video card problem set it to vga mode and disable it in the device manager then see if it will boot to windows. You need to find out if it is a hardware problem or software.

  22. If a program is being run automatically (check your start-up group) that accesses the modem and leaves the port open - you need to either change the configuration of that program, or remove it from the STARTUP group. If AOL was or is installed on the computer, deleting all AOL adapters, and MS Windows dial-up adapters (networking), then re-boot and re-install the MS dial-up adapter may solve the problem. You will to end task the program first that is holding the port open than RNAAPP.exe
