    HFSLIP your codecs

Ahh, windows sound drivers...I do remove those, since I integrate nForce II ones. Hey, I wonder if that's what this unknown device with a yellow (!) is! I had always wondered what it was, since it said it was on the PCI bus and I have no PCI cards. It also didn't label itself as anything, so who knows, maybe...I'll have to try that the next time I reinstall.

    HFSLIP your codecs

I'd love some working windows media codecs. I have no inf files in CODECS, and I deleted the CODECS folder before downloading and unpacking them. The hfcodecs.cab complaint has been around in every single version of HFSLIP, and all your posted codecs revisions. Don't know if that will help you track anything down. tommyp: I use all the keepfiles I could find on vorck.com, and also the ones listed at the start of this thread. That shouldn't matter though, since I just stated that all the codec files do end up on my system. Media Player Classic 6.4.9.0 won't play those files though.

    HFSLIP your codecs

Three things: 1) I don't really remove anything media/codec related with nLite, other than WMP. Even for that, I maintain compatability for Windows Media Lite. 2) wmfdist.exe never worked for me when nLiting. 3) One thing that I really dislike about this method is it adds dummy entries somewhere. Every time I use HFEXPERT/CODECS, setup complains about missing hfcodecs.cab. I checked, and no such cab files exists, and nLite isn't causing any problems with deleting these codecs either. I then used Locate to look for 'hfcodecs' in all files, and couldn't find any references to it! Must be hidden and compressed.
  4. TommyP: Just use the bloody command file! It takes into account everything you guys wanted, except uninstalling. It works for any windows dir, sticks all icl files in the SAME FOLDER as the exe's or dll's, and registers them appropriately wherever they might be(including those hard to find Program Files\Blah\Blah\Blah\Blah.exe ones). Do you really think you're going to be uninstalling these? New command files can be applied right over old ones, and why would anyone go back to the default icons? On a totally unrelated note...I got a razer copperhead yesterday, and I found a way to install it without ANY memory overhead! Go me!

    HFSLIP your codecs

Tain: The following files wouldn't play on my Win2k USP5.1 system(made yesterday). Applemp4.mp4 Asf.asf mazegame2.swf H.264 (AVC).avi H.264-2.mov (Played, but was blank audio+video) Huffyuv.avi I263.avi IR3x.avi IR4x.avi IR5x.avi Xvid4-noaudio.avi (Had crazy green rising bar distortions) Played after installing Windows Media Lite: Audio-WMA8-64.wma Wmv7.wmv Wmv8.wmv Wmv9.wmv (Odd play behaviour) WMV9-.wmv I think perhaps I gutted too many codecs out with nLite, or maybe need a new keepfiles list.
  6. All these unworking versions are really funny from my perspective....no offense to anyone. I threw together an updated command file from what I could decipher from the infs; since tommyp seems to be enjoying testing all these, maybe he can inform me if it works or not? Untested, so have fun. May 24 2006: http://www3.rapidupload.com/d.php?file=dl&filepath=11445
  7. Are you referring to the windowing behaviour Windows XP has by default in classic view(opening new window per folder)? It opens them as 640x480 windows or something - WAY too large for those 3 text files in the folder, and annoying unless you have a 1600x1200 monitor. I'm not sure how that would happen on Windows 2000, but I *think* something I did fixed it on an XP install. I don't remember what, so I'll just list everything for you to try... Open a primary non-special folder(ex: C:\ or D:\Stuff). Change all the view options to what you want. Drag the window so that it's about 100x100(tiny so you only see 2-3 files and folders max in either direction. Change arrangement to by "Type". Use the Folder Options apply button to apply settings to all folders. I seem to remember that if I applied changes to My Computer under XP, it would reset the options in all other folder types and go back to those 640x480 folder windows.
  8. Sir, reporting for duty, sir! I found your lampshade.

  10. I'll catch up with you guys, say 11 - 11:30. When ever I roll out of bed. I have no idea what any of that means, but I can just avoid going to sleep if it's only 00:30 military time. Hey, wait a sec - what timezone!?
  11. I have no idea, but maybe you should use the .cmd file? It only registers stuff if it ends up in the proper locations. Lol...couldn't resist. Oh, and FYI, the .cmd file makes registry changes based on Bug's first registry entries....though that's obvious if anybody noticed the posting times. tommyp: isn't HFSVCPACK_SW for Q:A R:N?(whatever that means) I throw all my switchless installers in HFSVCPACK.
  12. This would be a good time for me to ask something related. What happens if you replace Win2k's winlogon with minlogon? Minlogon is for XP, so...
  13. So why did I even bother making a cmd file then, if nobody cares and was just going to redo everything?
  14. Here's the script, including Bug's icons. I think the download for his went down a while ago? http://rapidshare.de/files/20715143/XP_She..._Script.7z.html http://rapidshare.de/files/20715143/XP_Shell_Icon_Script.7z?killcode=365969010] Feel free to make any improvements you want to it. As far as I'm concerned I'm done with that script, and am instead working on other stuff. fdv: I like XP's icons, but Vista's are sorta...blah. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- A while back I started working on hacking XP icons into my win2k system files. I got fairly far, hacking about 20 files totally, but then I heard that Dels was working on eX2kerience. For now my project is on hold. He asked me to be one of the first betatesters of eX2kerience, so that's awesome. After first beta though I plan to continue hacking files with 8bit icons until everything is complete, and then offer that to people that don't like XP's windowing and would usually remove the pretty stuff anyway. If anyone wants the hacked files done so far as of a week ago, they can PM me. I won't be working on it again until at least the end of the month, so most of you could get a nice looking install before I update it. Oh, and like I mentioned, it's USP versions of the files that are hacked with XP icons. You'd have to slipstream USP with HFSLIP and shove everything in the FIX folder, so again PM if you really want them.
  15. Don't suppose I should link a bunch of system files I hacked a while ago? They're basically all USP versions of files, but with hacked XP icons(more than bugs' ones). Oh, and incase anyone wants it, I also wrote an HFSVCPACK cmd file that checks which .ICL files are present and only registers icons for those.
  16. Ahh, that patch did the trick. Awesome. I'm guessing that by "32bit", they mean that it accepts any RGB from 0-255(not limitted to specific increments). Since systray icons are only 16x16 though, they're really 256 colour. Monitor settings determine if they appear 32bit. Hey, something I was just noticing - my makecabbed ex_ files are larger than those in USP. What version or method does Gurgel use to get them smaller? Simply recabbing files boosts their size ~5-10%. I have v5.00.2134.1 of makecab. Edit: Figured it out.
  17. Ahh, MSFN must have accidental double-post prevention. I wonder what happens if I click 'Add Reply' twice... Ahh, MSFN must have accidental double-post prevention. I wonder what happens if I click 'Add Reply' twice... Edit: Lol, cool.
  18. Well, here's the thing - all explorer.exe's on my harddrive have the proper hex edits done, and all my windows partitions have SFC disabled, with hack and empty filelist. Sending the exe to modifype with the -c arg corrupts the exe so it no longer does anything or is recognizable. If you can figure it out, awesome, because I'm stumped. Oh, and I can freely flip my explorer.exe back and forth between 6690 and 6920 while within windows.
  19. I don't think there is an XP version. FDV likes the server OSs. For XP you pretty much have to use nLite. I don't think there is an XP version. FDV likes the server OSs. For XP you pretty much have to use nLite.

    Stop it…

Hey tommyp, why did you skip #4? As for #2, this may interest you... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=73008&st=0 I say keep HFAAO, since I have some scanner drivers in a compressed exe that I'm unable to unpack. Now, for this bloat...I don't think it's bad, since I'm able to make modifications where needed. A plugin script system seems even more bloatish, but since I'm a fan of Azureus you won't get any complaints from me. If it hasn't been done already, you could shuffle some of the core code around I suppose, though I can't offer suggestions on how that would make it more manageable. What I do suggest is putting a commented index of everything that happens at the top of the file, in order of it happening, with indents if things depend on other things. This would allow anyone with a half-decent text editor(which most of us have) to find relevant parts rapidly, while having no prior knowledge of where anything is. It would also be easily updatable, and any of us could check it when opening a new version to see that HFCLEANUP's execution point was moved, etc..

    Stop it…

I like where HFSLIP is going. It's almost a totally viable alternative to nLite, and it this rate it will be within a few months. I googled CalmiraXP...first result: Computing.Net - CalmiraXP ARGH!!!

    Goddies:

Most of those FS drivers(like Reiser) are read-only. It might be possible to boot from them, but you'd have to do something like install to FAT32 and then copy the whole partition under linux to get them onto the Reiser 4 partition.
  23. Ooh, look, I'm a thread necromancer! Ok...I'm not sure why, but with 5.00.3700.6690 I get pretty 256 colour icons, and with 5.0.3900.6920 Gas_Hed's hex edits have absolutely no effect. Any ideas?
  24. Hey, goodluck on the exams. I offered to help with icons and stuff. I'm still in the process of fixing resources with XP ones on my severely nLited system, but I've already made some progress. I'd be happy to share what I've done so far, assuming I can grab some things that you have(like that nice Windows 2000 logo!) I've mostly gotten all my icons from an XP Sp1 laptop I have access to, so it may not look quite the same. Also, I chose to do 256-colour(and down) icons only, to avoid huge filesize increases. I'm still not sure on whether to keep or remove 48x48 icons. I'll post most of them once I fix a few more things. I'm still trying to figure out how to remove the duplicate Network Connections icons in the control panel while leaving the pretty one.
  25. Hey, I was just thinking - I don't see any ( ) brackets in the above function. What happens if multiple drives have an i386 in their root? Will it only attempt to copy from the last one?
