  1. Again, sorry that my signature hasn't been updated, but I am running F11 already. I am wondering if perhaps I should change from ACHI --> IDE in the bios and reinstall Vista? I never had any problems in XP like this but then again, I was using IDE mode.
  2. I guess I should have said that I have already reinstalled Vista after I did the switch from IDE to ACHI.
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks for the responses. @brucevangeorge: It says ACPI x64-based PC @cluberti: when I say the CPU has shutdown I mean that the only thing "on" is the optical drive (I can open/close the tray) and the fans. @puntoMX: I haven't made a whole lot of changes to the BIOS. I did switch from IDE to SATA mode - AHCI enabled, no RAID and I manual set my memory timings (to spec though, no overclock). My install is also a slipstream SP1 image (from Microsoft, not nLited).
  4. I installed Windows Vista Business x64 and am having some problems. When I shutdown the computer, CPU stops but the fans and dvd drive still have power (I don't know about the harddrive). I have to hold the power button for 4 seconds to turn it off completely. When turning on the computer later, I never get a message saying that windows didn't shutdown properly - this leads me to believe that the shutdown went alright, but for some reason the peripherals don't get command to shutdown. I have already gone in the power settings and changed it so that the power button and start menu power button "shut down" and in the sleep settings both sleep and hibernate are set to "never". What I am running: GA-P35-DS3R rev. 1 (bios F12) Intel E6550 h 2.33Ghz XFX 7600GS (driver - 175.16_geforce_winvista_64bit_english_whql) OCZ Platinum XTC REV.2 PC2-6400 2GB Corsair HX520W CMPSU-520HX Western Digital SE16 320GB SATA2 Updated Chipset drivers to v9.0.0.1008 Realtek Audio and Lan drivers are up to date too. I did the performance shutdown and here is the link to the file: shutdown_BASE+CSWITCH+DRIVERS+POWER_1.etl Any ideas? -fillalph
  5. Newzbin? I used to use it about 2 years ago and today went to check it out again, but it is invite only. I was hoping I could get an invite from someone here. If you have one available, my email is my msfn username @ gmail.com Thanks fillalph
  6. Hello, Here is our current setup: Linksys Modem --> Linksys WRT54GL (Tomato firmware) --> D-LINK DES-1024D where all our wired computers in the company connect to (about 18 or so). The WRT54GL also has wireless enabled and we are using WAP AES for security. At the moment we are sharing folders within the company through Microsoft sharing (simple file sharing and the like). I am going to be install a Linux fileserver in the next week or so though. (Please don't laugh ). The wireless wasn't encrypted before and the transport trucks used to go on it while waiting for their trailers to be loaded. Since we added security, they can't and have asked if we could open it up again. If don't mind sharing the internet with them, but as a result, they do get access to the network. I was thinking perhaps I could leave the encryption on (keeps my bosses wireless encrypted), but give out the password to the truckers and in the Tomato settings, turn AP Isolation on. The other idea would be to buy another Linksys WRT54GL router and connect it to the D-LINK DES-1024D switch and turn off the encryption, turn AP isolation on and disable the WAN (in the basic network settings)? Any opinions. Thanks
  7. Hi cool400, I was going to download and install ghostscript and bullzip pdf individually. I didn't know off the top of my head how to do a silent install of ghostscript so I figured I would try out your script. Thanks! fillalph
  8. Quick question. Can I put hotfixes in the folder too? Does Office handle the order in which files (SP1, then hotfixes) get installed first? Thanks
  9. I think I am going to have to wait until a method is figured out to modify the boot files for Vista before I can have multiple computer configurations (and hence, multiple autounattended.xml files). Until then though, I can just put which one I want on a USB flash disk. I think I will try the solution found here http://technet2.microsoft.com/WindowsVista...3.mspx?mfr=true for my application installation. If someone might have a better solution though, I am all ears. fillalph
  10. Hey Guys, Thanks very muching for your responses. Still not sure of a good setup . Anyone else? fillalph
  11. Here is what I would like to do for Vista: 1. Have two Autounattend.xml files and then when the disc boots choose which one to use 2. Install my applications through an inf file. I did this with XP so many explaining really quick what I did would help. I followed the multiboot guide and created two boot folders (each one has a winnt.sif file) called VOL1 and VOL2. So in each winnt.sif, I could have enique computer names, desktop and notebook. Then I had a cmdlines.txt file which looked like this: cmdow @ /HID @ECHO OFF ::RunOnceEX rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 .\setup.inf if %computername%==DESKTOP rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DesktopInstall 128 .\setup.inf if %computername%==NOTEBOOK rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection NotebookInstall 128 .\setup.inf EXIT So, depending on the computer name, I could have different software installed. Here is my setup.inf file: [Version] Signature = "$Windows NT$" [DefaultInstall] AddReg = Common.RunOnceEx [DesktopInstall] AddReg = Desktop.RunOnceEx [NotebookInstall] AddReg = Notebook.RunOnceEx [Common.RunOnceEx] HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\",Title,,"Installing Applications" ;Creates a c:\Windows\RunOnceEx.log file with status of commands HKLM,"%RunOnceEX%\",Flags,0x00010001,20 HKLM,"%RunOnceEx1",,,"INF Update" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx1",1,,"%01%\installs\common\infupdate\setup.exe -s" [Desktop.RunOnceEx] HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%100",,,"BOINC 5.10.13" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%100",1,,"%01%\installs\desktop\BOINC\BOINC.msi /qb" [Notebook.RunOnceEx] HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%100",,,"AC'97 Sound System 3.53" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%100",1,,"%01%\installs\notebook\realtek\realtek.cmd" [Strings] RunOnceEx = "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx" So each computer would run the common install commands and their own specific software. I read a thread in the mutliboot forum about having X86 and X64 on one disc, but I don't think that is the solution (am I wrong)? Has anyone already tried this? Thanks
  12. I am just about to install Vista and I was curious how they setup their users. Maybe their normal user with admin privileges or perhaps setup the admin account and then make their normal user with user privileges and just enter the admin password when need. Perhaps you have a different system. I am all ears -fillalph
  13. http://www.vistaclues.com/windows-vista-pr...y-now-optional/ "Note: the editions that end with N (Windows Vista HOMEBASICN and Windows Vista BUSINESSN) don’t have Windows Media Player to comply with European regulations. Those editions aren’t sold in the US."
  14. Hello Hello. Come on guys, join up. Zxian's credit is dropping and we need people to start picking up the slack. It won't affect your computer's performance. fillalph
  15. ]Bonkers[ --> fillalph Thank you, (I don't know my name yet )
  16. Hi, I have a computer running 98 and want to install Vista (after a slight hardware upgrade). It is obviously cheaper to purchase an upgrade version. Is it possible to reformat the computer with an upgrade CD later on? If not, could I use a retail CD and the key from my upgrade and still cover my butt legally? Thanks ]Bonkers[
  17. Hi, I am looking to setup a similiar server which about 15 computers. We use a range of software including accounting software (I believe it is Simply Accounting) and AutoCAD and Microsoft Office. What I would really like to do is have the users not store any data on their own harddrives but have it stored on the server and also able to share it among users. Too many people are computer illiterate and don't backup and what not. At the moment we are using a peer-to-peer network for file and printer sharing and it is chaos in my opinion. Is there anyway to prevent people from making local saves and/or at least syncing a copy on the server? Is this something that SBS can do? Currently our company webpage (which hasn't been updated in a long time) is hosted externally by a company and I believe they also host our email. If we were to take over the hosting ourselves, would it require monitoring or could we just host it and more or less forget about it? Thanks, ]Bonkers[
  18. This has been answered before. Do a search. ]Bonkers[
  19. Hey Mazin, Actually my cmdlines.txt looks like this: [COMMANDS] "setup.cmd" Then in my setup.cmd: cmdow @ /HID @ECHO OFF net user Philip /add net localgroup Administrators Philip /add net accounts /maxpwage:unlimited ::RunOnceEX rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 .\setup.inf if %computername%==DESKTOP rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DesktopInstall 128 .\setup.inf if %computername%==NOTEBOOK rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection NotebookInstall 128 .\setup.inf ::Tweaks rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 128 .\tweaks.inf if %computername%==DESKTOP rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection DesktopInstall 128 .\tweaks.inf if %computername%==NOTEBOOK rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection NotebookInstall 128 .\tweaks.inf EXIT (I have multiple sections in my inf with specific software profiles) ]Bonkers[
  20. I think Delprat answered your question already, but I use an inf to install my applications from a CD/DVD without copying them to the harddrive. Here is how I do it. D:\ D:\$OEM$\ D:\$OEM$\setup.inf <-- the file my cmdlines.txt calls D:\$OEM$\Installs\common\ D:\$OEM$\Installs\common\TTPack\TTPack2202.exe Inf looks like this: HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0080",,,"titou2k TTPack 2.2.0.2" HKLM,"%RunOnceEx%\0080",1,,"%01%\installs\common\TTPack\TTPack2202.exe" Where %RunOnceEx% is defined like this: [Strings] RunOnceEx = "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnceEx" as the last section in my INF Hope that helps. ]Bonkers[ Here is something that I have at the top of my inf file. I got it from a member a while ago... I don't think he is active anymore, but he was incredibly smart .
  21. Honestly, I am not sure if this "rule" can be applied to other countries. My guess, is yes... but only trial and error will let us know for sure. I came upon the solution by fluke. I tried all sorts of different domains, and one time it connected. I hated AOL (mostly because of their software), but now they aren't that bad anymore! ]Bonkers[
  22. I would suggest posting a question like this in a forum dedicated to the iPod, perhaps http://www.ilounge.com. ]Bonkers[
  23. Thanks allen2 for the program. I also came across a program called Unpacker that works nicely as well. Both will have their use . ]Bonkers[
  24. Hello. Well I have a solution to my problem: Follow the directions on the link in my first post at DSLReports, except change the username to: username@de.aol.com Some other little things that I have come across that may help people are: all characters in your username should be lowercase, max 8 character password, and your mtu should be 1400. ]Bonkers[
  25. I was hoping someone could write a really batch file (or something simply) to parse through the subfolders of a directory and unrar everything in them to a common folder that I choose. Thanks ]Bonkers[
