  4. Both Xp and 2000 have thier bugs and gliches. To see which one works better for your office, run one destop on Xp and another 2000, update them both to the max, then see which causes more problems. Although 2000 has many more updates..im not sure which is still left with more problems...so just test it out..that sould solve your problem. just run them for a few weeks do normal office stuff and see which is more effective

  5. i really think the last image i uploaded will help explain my problem

i m trying to get rid of the standard comp thing

and that acpi thing.....though under device usage it is enabled...there is no driver installed....and i don't know how to install a driver for it....the acpi thing is what i m sure that needs to be enabled...instead of the standard comp thing....for my comp to shut down [/quote:bea31d468f]

Leave the standard Computer thing alone....thats how its sapposed to be.... here is where it get strange..under the computer icon in the device manager..you have "standard Pc" and The "power thing".. i dont have the power thing at all under the computer icon.

    here is a screen shot

    http://drewdatrip.freeservers.com/cgi-bin/i/StandardPC.JPG

I think you should delete that thing and reboot..then see if it finds it again and in stalls the correct drivers..if it finds it but cannot find the right drivers..pop in your Xp Cd and see if it can find them on there.

If that all dont work...nothing will! If all else fails just start from point 1..reformat you hard drive and do a fresh install of Xp..that always fixes really f***ed up s*** like this

  7. I tried WIn2k in its early stages..i sappose geting all the updates and bug patches Win2k could work great for your office enviorment. Xp is much faster then 2000(in my opinion) and i like alot of the integrated funtions of Xp..like remote desktop(which would kick a** in a ofice). Its hibernate fuction would also be nice for the office.

It has many of the nice fuctions like debuging, multiple users etc..i just think Xp exicutes them better. Yor probley would save out on some bucks..just make sure you wont be updating to Xp anytime soon...otherwise you should just do it now..no point in spending money on lience fees on all those systems ..just to update in a few years.

I think puting win200 and xp on a few systems and seeing which perfomes better for your office would be a good idea. that way you would know it first hand, rather then just hearing tips and recomendations from us:D

  8. In an office you will love the Remote desktop!!! you can control and computer with the master server..And its fast! not like the most of them..like Pc anywhere, it would be ideal for the laptops that have small hard drives, or just easy access. I have used Win2k, its a flop! buggy, slow, etc. Xp has got most of the fuctions of 2000...but they actually work! Trust me you want Xp. Dont skimp on money just to save, if you get Xp you will be saving yourself, everyone at the office and especially the network techs ALOT of troble!

  9. First off hermit..plz upload jpgs and such on to your own site, you can get a free one at www.freeservers.com . And for you problem, i have an idea..go to your device manger, got view and select show hidden devices, when selected..do you see a thing called "NT APM/legacy support" if so hit the + thing and it will show the "APM/Legacy interface node" hit properties and at the botom there is a thing called "device usage" make sure its enabled.

If that does not work...with all the problems you are having ..i would just reformat and renstall a fresh copy of Xp..make sure all the devices are in the mashine and see what happens, make sure there are no serious errors during the setup, and get all the drivers nessary for your hardware, get the Xp releace(or the Win2000 driver if they dont have the Xp one) of and hardware confliction you are running in to. If you have a raid or harddrive controler , get the new driver off the website for Xp or the newest one for Win2000 and See what happens...report back to us when you have either fixed the problem with my first answer or after you format and reinstall

Good luck..and if your confused with anything ....just ask

  10. drewdatrip - you should never have your Vid card sharing a IRQ, So he probaly wanted to make sure XP was going to do this, By assigning the IRQ it prevents this. Of course you should only assign if your IRQ's are messed up, never do it from the begaining. [/quote:82b66a6799]

Yea i know that...but wont your Vid card do that by is self...i have never heard of having to set it yourself:eek:
