Which software would you recomend for a noob like me. What i want to do is Setup my computer the way i want then Use an image creater to create and image of my computer at its current position. Then if i ever want to format I will just revert back to the image i created without having to setup all my files again. How would i do it, and what would you recomend.

Well i had my Folder View set at List for all my folders and every folder opened up in Explorer. But now it seems that they are all reset, they no longer are in "list view" however the Explorer bar remains How do i get List View to work again. Ps. Iv tried setting List View then going to Tools>folder options>View>Apply to All Folders. It didnt work. Please someone help me this is getting innoying.

Ok, my friend has made an unattended Cd with his stuff, now is it possible for me to edit it and add stuff/remove stuff to it? For Example if he has Vmware unattended i want to remove that, how would i go about, this is an ISO, dvd. I also want to add my own (documents + a few more window updates) I also want to change the serial number.

ill tell u how i did it.. for exampel u want to Disable Active Desktop google Disable Active Desktop do the reg tweak the long way then on the reg it told u to change right click and click export. and save the .reg to ur desktop. When you've done a seperate .reg for all of ur tweaks rename the .reg to .txt for all of them and open each one in text pad. copy all the information below Windows Registry Ediot 5.00 for each one and post it in a seperate txt file when your done copying all the reg tweaks place the Windows Registry editor or w/e thing on the top line and save as regtweaks.reg. For the noobs out there like me, can someone make a guide with a few examples of how to create a silent install of an application, apply the switch, and add the neccesary stuff to cmdlines.txt or runoncex.cmd so that it will be unattended. Because although i know what switches are i dont know how to add them. This is especially true if i already have the application installed, how do i add the switch?

o so its easier to just use the batch or runeonce to install...

tthe image is MUCH easier especially for a noob like me who still is tryin to learn switches and batch commands etc.

How do u get autoit to run in an unattended install and the ones in the autoit script thread do they work with newer versions of the software?

wow when i loook at these .cmd and .bat and .inf i get soo **** confused...wish it was easier way a way with a GUI or sumthing. Similar to Nlite. (if only it had a few more options)

ok, so if i got this right (prays he did) i set up the $OEM$ folder and when all is done with nlite before clickin on make iso i add the oem folder to the xpcd directory and click make iso? Last thing.. the winnt.sif will not need any fooling around with correct? Even though i will be adding unattended installs of software and reg tweaks etc.

After reading the UnattendedGuide and under the adding of applications im still confused. 1)So you put the location of the file in $OEM$/$1/Install/Applications ? 2)Then the *switches* what are they and how do u use them the guide doesn't really explain what they are and how to use them. (im noob to command Prompt and batching and all that) 3)After setting up the switch we need to use either the runonceEx or Batch Scripting right? 4) is their a guide that can demonstrate an example of how to incorporate an app to become unattended SomeSoftware idea would be Nero/Alcohol/Winamp

im still quite confused on how i should go about doing this. I've Setup everything in the Unattended GUide That being 1 -Creating Local Source 2 -Slipstreaming Office 2003 With hotfix n updates 3 -Adding my own documents and themes. Now how should i go about using Nlite to add the stuff i missed for example the hotfixes for windows XP 2sp, the reg tweaks, adding the users etc. Note the above ISO is not yet created. My only question is how to use Nlite to copy the contents of $OEM$ into the original winXpcd so that it will work.

So, if i understood you correctly I will create two different Isos. One with nlite one with Unattended Guide if the one with unattended works then i will import the winnt.sif and commandlines.txt and the $oem$ folder to the iso nlite created? And that should work? Is it not possible to create all that stuff, put it in the xpcd folder and run nlite and allow nlite to put thema ll together or will it just skip over the files?
