  1. Disambiguation:

    1. you can have a MUCH lited "full XP" on a USB stick
    2. anything that is called "Live XP" or something simialr is actually a PE 1.x

You need to make a choice.

Are you wanting to make a "Full XP" on USB OR a PE on USB stick?

If #1 there is now a mostly automated way, that is also almost "universal":

For #2, the "standard" project is either UBCD4WIN:

    http://www.ubcd4win.com/

or the LiveXP Amalux's "frozen builds":

jaclaz and ponch...useful links so thanks for those. I shall have a look at them immediately

  2. Yes, it is possible to reduce XP to much less than 512MB with nLite.

Yes, you can install it to a PC from USB http://www.msfn.org/board/forum/157-install-windows-from-usb/

I'm afraid nobody will provide you with a template, as no one knows your needs from that XP install. Even if you say what your needs are, I doubt anyone will interfere. It's a process of trial and error. Start up a virtual machine, make a build with nLite and test the ISO. After that, reduce or add according to your needs.

to get windows XP running from the USB stick

In case you are thinking of installing XP TO a 512MB USB drive, then you have a lot of problems coming your way.

    Cheers

Thanks, I've already installed windows xp to my netbook from usb which went fine but now I need to use my old usb memory card for booting into if I have problems with my hdd install. I guess it would be a win xp live.

  3. Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to slim down Windows XP to fit and run from a 512mb USB memory stick. If so could anyone post an .ini for nlite so that I could slim mine down using your template and does anyone have any links to a useful guide to get windows XP running from the USB stick?

    Thanks for your help

  4. I have seen various articles scattered around the net with people having issues about integrating the Promise RAID drivers. None of them seem to resolve this problem.

I am trying to create a striped disk array and have tried various methods

A ) to use a driver scanner on a completed, working install ie using the attended + floppy disk method, then saving these and then integrating and

B ) to integrate directly from the MSI supplied driver pack. On both occasions the hard disks have not been seen. Why would this be? It's driving me nuts.

I haven't yet used Bashrats driver packs with his installer so shall be trying that in a minute but my preferred method is nLite all the way. I am doing this unattended but can't see why this would be a problem. I would be well chuffed if anyone has a simple solution to this. I'm trying to squeeze more use out of a four year old mobo.

  5. I can wait two hours no problem.....but two days!? Now that's another question. I tried downloading these two days ago and the same message was there so I thought I'd wait but I'm still here waiting.....and now I need to go to the toilet but I can't cos I'm still waiting.......aaaaargh!!

  6. What is the best desktop search utility?

By this I mean the smallest footprint on the computers resources. This fastest seek time and the most types of files supported. Secondary to these prerequisites are the appearance and the lack of junk it installs to the registry. Preferably (for me anyway) open source but can be free or for a fee. Answers on a post card please.

  7. Hi there. Thanks for creating this program. It's really useful for me. It does seem to work with Firefox 2 Ok and the latest Thunderbird but didn't seem to install all my extensions. However, conflict or not it's no real problem since Mozbackup takes care of that task for me. What I would appreciate though is if it helped compile a silent install of Filezilla Server. Would this be possible at all?

  8. Hi,

Nero will burn to dual layer DVD but it doesn't read the data of the iso to establish where it will lay the layer break point so it's not good for movie burning. Use imgburn for that as it will read the data on the iso and look for the break point thus giving you a relatively flawless layer transition. Using PGCEdit you can even place the break point where you choose ie at a dark point in the movie and the layer change is virtually unnoticeable.

Nero 6 & 7 is suitable for data dvds of all types though.

  9. I've made The Godfather as an addon . I have removed outlook express and internet explorer and replaced them with firefox and thunderbird and get no problems with tagging. I get the tags off allmusic.com. Can't imagine much other than removing internet explorer having an effect on this program. It doesn't install to the registry or system folder. This is easily the best program to do tagging in my opinion.

  10. Look at him go!!! You da man eggster. SFX is a ******* fine addition to this program. Haven't tested it yet but it'll save a lot of time if it works, which no doubt it does.

Dunno what other nifty tricks you have up your sleeve but I have one idea. Perfect this program would be if it could scan a system for drivers (yes I know programs like that exist already).....but once you've chosen which ones you want you could then package them up to either a folder of your choice, a 7z of your choice but as the coup de grace.....a 7z file in Bashrats the Sneeky compatibility mode with appropriately named subfolders (if that's possible!). I reckon nuhi should make his nLite read 7z files under the driver slipstreaming stage.

  11. Can I suggest something also

    Don't type with

    loads

    of

    spaces inbetween

since it causes premature wear to the wrist and index finger

    whilst having to

    scroll down

    and read all the

    post

    Thanks

  12. Oi Eggster, Good effort sunshine....you've just weened me off NLAOM which whilst a valiant attempt and useful for a while just seized up with certain programs. Tested this one on it however and it worked fine. Just waiting for that 7z compression now cos I want to change all my add ons to that format plus of course I want them to actually work with the latest nLite!! Particularly like the .reg feature though.

    :thumbup

  13. I would like to see a recurse subfolders tick box for when adding Add ons. Simply for the fact I organise my addons into categorised subfolders.

Another perhaps being able to add .exe files directly together with a field inwhich to add the switches you would like implemented during the install process. This would mean you wouldn't need to use nlite add on maker which keeps choking up on some programs I'm trying to convert to cabs.

  14. Not to say this is no good. It is an excellent program but I too am having problems with it freezing. It seems to work with some install files I have created with Inno but then some it won't. 7zip uses loads of processing power when it freezes. I've tried creating a .cab without ticking the 7zip box but it still freezes. Nothing to do with the window being minimized or whatever.

  15. MinVersion error

Thanks very much hp38guser for this but....

I used uniextract on the inno setup file and added my own custom template to the coverdesigner directory. I then added a suitable line within the setup code itself but when trying to recompile the setup file in Inno an error box pops up stating Line 484: Parameter "MinVersion" is not a valid value. It has MinVersion at the end of nearly all the lines so why this one in particular. It doesn't occur on the line relating to my new template. It's really frustrating cos I can't find anything on the net to help me resolve this. In fact I know for a fact it's nothing to do with my template cos I could just uniextract then recompile with no changes and the same problem occurs.
