  1. jaclaz could you please show me your desktop.ini code?
  2. Hi, I have created a .ini file in one of my folders and - in order to give it a customised icon - I added the following line: [.ShellClassInfo] ConfirmFileOp=1 IconFile=..\Custom.ico IconIndex=0 The icon Custom.ico resides in the parent folder. Thus I created a relative path using ..\ in order to link to the icon contained one level up in the hierarchy. It works just fine! The problem is that I would like to link to an icon wich must be TWO levels up and not just one from the foder containing the .ini file. I tried to modify as follows but it did not work: [.ShellClassInfo] ConfirmFileOp=1 IconFile=..\..\Custom.ico IconIndex=0 Does anyone know why ..\..\ is not the right solution? Or what am I missing in the code? Thank you.
  3. Excellent example, ricktendo. Are those .avi files from Windows Vista? Yes you can, provided that you have the right software (see above my other reply). I see if anyone at CGTalk wants to engage in a little 3D animation for this purpose. Surprisingly, Deviantart's artists don't seem to have even considered the customization of such resources...now as I see it, you people have the chance to be pioneers in this...or almost Cheers
  4. That'd be great!! I wander what it'd take really to make them on my own. All in all I think a 3D software is required in order to make good quality ones..or at the very least ImageReady and Photoshop. Not that cheap...
  5. In effect I'm a bit surprised. It doesn't seem to be that much about shell32 avi out there on the net. Anyways, here is my little contribution to this post. This page contains several avi theme to patch your shell32.dll. Themes available: Aqua Crystal Crystal MX Tux Version Gant Gant2 Gorilla MMX Slate (!) Snow e2 Umicons Umina Umina2 Some of this names might be familiar to ya modders! Enjoy and thanks to Saverio80 for collecting them.
  6. Oops...almost forgot the theme was Valentine's day. Here is my tribute to it: here is the dirty vers. dockbar: Y'z dock dock icons: Snow.E 2 theme: Milk 2.0 wall: Frank Sinatra by DivineError icons: FauxS XP (Ruby) v1.5
  7. Eheh... weird I have not seen many desktops showing this feature...everyone seems so committed to widgets and co. even though it's a burden for their system. Cheers
  8. Here is my desktop Clean Version Dirty Version Two lil' semi-transparent windows are made by integrating an .swf into the desktop. Same goes with the date/time display.. Enjoy
  9. May I suggest UberIcon? It creates new effects when you launch your icons and folders. Check it out. It's free
  10. Hi! I've copied ntoskrnl.exe from C:\Windows\System32 and modified it with my personal bitmap (4bit, 16 custom colour palette) by using Resource Hacker. I obtained my new file, called it NTCUSTOM.EXE and put it back in C:\Windows\System32. Now went through the guide and modded the boot.ini as follows: [boot loader] timeout=6 default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXP'" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="WinXP custom boot" /fastdetect /kernel=NTCUSTOM.EXE When i start the system and choose the custom boot option it regularly loads the custom bootscreen but mess completelly the colours I've chosen. It still probably uses the palette from the blach boot screen. Instead of those 16 colours I've chosen others (according to the image i wanted to display). How comes I can't see my custom bootscreen with it's custom palette? How would I modify Windows XP's bootscreen palette in order to make my image to display correctelly? Thanks
  11. Cool themes! Those are better than the original, though the transparent effect u can achieve with avalon is definitelly stunning to me. I spent time looking for some other news on avalon...it's potentials are great. i hope win longhorn will be also a stable os, not just a breaktrough graphic interface 'cause i love what i see so far! Hey buddies do u think a nLite version (i'm addicted to it, simon) will come out for win lh as well? Cheers!
  12. what a pitty! hey symon, cool desktop...I can't wait to have longhorn on my pc! B) Besides, using too many programs (like windowblinds, y'z dock, y'z shadow, samurize etc..) at the same time, to emulate cool effects, doesn't represent a burden for the system resources? I mean y'z dock takes just 600kb, but altogether becomes significant... does someone know if there is a single program that has all the features necessary for themes, toolbars, dock bars and don't take to much memory? What does this mean? What this libraries do right now? I thought this would have solved the transparence issue...now i'm a little puzzled. What actually this 250mb thing do?
  13. in this case let's take a step back to this Avalon patch first. download As soon as i get home i'll check this "joejoe" file out....
  14. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeessssssss! only 4.16mb to transform your xp into this graphic heaven! I couldn't ask for more... Coooooooooool
  15. Thanks Xpero. Kind of cool stuff this africasystem, though the screenshots don't show any transparence...but once xp gets patched it may work anyway. Now, a little info about the possibility to have that transaperent effect on xp. Since i'm a stubborn kid, I wanted to get a little deeper in the issue. Thus, i've found this: Public November 2004 "Avalon" Community Technology Preview Including WinFX™ SDK Looks like Avalon (longhorn's graphic engine and not only) can work on winXP sp2...i haven't tried it yet, but feels like i'm going the right way. Enjoy
