  5. Ok.. First things first

IRDA is available on linux, it was detected and is running... you can use any phone that has an IRDA connection with it, there are linux programs that you can install and use.

Go here for more information about IRDA and mobile phones :)

    http://tuxmobil.org/phones_linux_mobile_con.html

I have BlueTooth and not IRDA so I can't really help you on that one, but this site should help you out a bit:

    http://irda.sourceforge.net/

Enjoy Linux, and don't get scared of the fact that running linux is different, it just takes time to get used to :)

I've been using linux for 5+ years now at home (I use Windows at work) and I haven't had any trouble with it at all... I'm a RedHat person myself and now run Fedora Core 4 :)

But I ran the LiveCD of Ubuntu and it seems to be really excellent for users new to linux, so yeah!!

Heres another good site for information on your K700

ps..... can u please post the last 2 links for k500i?

  6. Good luck. I would think now that your mobile phone software should be compatible for Linux to make this whole infrared thing work. But I dont know if there is anything like that. What kind of a mobile phone are you using?

its an Sony Ericson K700.. i dunno if theres a Linux-compatilbe phone or what...

  7. That's the thing about Linux... if you can't find drivers for something, you may end up having to write them yourself. :P

    Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if no-one's been able to help you at the Ubuntu forums, I doubt that you'll find much help here... :}

the irda was detected so i beliv its workin.. its just that i dunno how to begin....

  9. been reading this thread and i have a question...

when using the res hacker replace icon method do u have to do any resizing of icons at all? or just replace them?

also does anyone know where the icons are stored for winamp please? i want to replace these for some of foood's icons

    thanks

i think u dont have to resize it.. im using restorator2005 to edit my shell32 & i dont do any resizing there too... but i think resizing icons is like reducing the file size...
