FX3700 = 8800 GT so would be fine?    Also would serve multi purpose as could use it for 2K, XP and old Hackintosh OS from 10.5 Leopard thru to 10.13 High Sierra in my KVM host with PCIE passthru

Yes, absolutely fine, I also did that BIOS mod by reflashing to 3700. There was (still is?) a ready made BIOS file from the original Quadro card circulating the internet.

    You're Killin' Me, Smalls.

Supermium is too bright.  360Chrome is too bright.  MyPal 68 is too bright.  PotPlayer is too bright.  MPC-HC is too bright.

I could go on.  All of these are too bright and you've said so yourself right here at MSFN.

Sorry, but yeah, one HAS TO LAUGH whenever you say something is "too bright".

Blurays and films that are "remastered" by id*ots is nothing new. They are too bright and acid, agree. It's the same as those newly remastered audio CDs during the ear of loudness wars.

I just can't find the proper English jargon name for such releases. Brightness wars, maybe?

    Quadro FX 1800

On the other hand, FX 1700 is a direct copy of a very common 8600GS. I personally reflashed it in 2007. GT version should have a different VRAM though.

So maybe a good BIOS for 1800 exists. If flashed properly, not drivers editing would be needed. I'm still afraid the 9 series is too new.

  4. What I recommend to try - perform "4K alignment" it's known to help XP in some cases.

    Since Windows XP doesn't support 512e .

The procedure was popular some decades ago.

    https://www.minitool.com/lib/4k-alignment.html

"Although 512e solves the compatibility problem and it doesn’t force complicated changes in computing system, it still has some defects. Actually, the translation process of 512e sacrifices its performance to a certain extent, especially in writing performance.

When you write a data that is neither a multiple of 4K nor aligned to a 4K boundary (4K misalignment, click 4K alignment to know more), a operation known as read-modify-write (RMW) is performed, which can result in a perceptible impact on writing performance to users."

More modern disks have 4096 bytes sectors (physical) that are exposed (logical) either as 512 bytes (so called AF drives) or as 4096 bytes (so called Native 4K, still pretty much rare).

AF disks have (internally, physically) 4096 bytes sectors, that are converted by the controller to 8x512 bytes sectors.

jaclaz, what you talk about is called 512-Byte Emulation (512e), I'm aware of it.

"A hard disk that is configured with 4K physical sectors with 512-byte logical sectors, the so-called 512e, comes out. It is coupled with 512-byte conversion firmware so that the 4K physical sectors used in Advanced Format are translated into 8 traditional 512-byte logical sectors compatible with host computing systems."

However - "The Windows versions supporting 512e hard disk are as follows: Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2".

I don't see Windows XP on that list.

  6. Very old disks (500GB and the such) have "usual" 512kb clusters, and the newer ones - "advanced format" with bigger clusters.

And by that I mean physical, hardware clusters.

EDIT, prolly the board isn't tailored well enough to work with the old ones, but could also be the firmware bug.

I think you should already write games that support Win 7, because it doesn't support most of the newer games. :(

No. Star Wars: Battlefront is a series of classic games that was launched in 2004.  (twenty years ago!)

In 2024 they just added an artificial block to fend off windows 7 and below.

That's why it makes sense to post here.

Yes, I deliberately omitted column No. 3 from the Forbes article for obvious reasons you've just proved to be right.

In fact, I even wanted to help you not to land up in a funny situation like this, that's why I didn't quote that column.

In English, we have two absolutely different meanings for "famous" and "talented"!

Fame has nothing to do with talent

There are a lot of  famous folks on insta, it doesn't automatically make them talented or actors.

    "...played by a badly miscast..."

"If you would care to attack any specific member of the cast (perhaps Timothée Chalamet as Paul?"

Now the column No. 2 that specifically targets the main weak actors (which is my opinion, also):

"2. Timothée Chalamet and Zendaya do their best, and it’s not enough."

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/erikkain/2024/03/03/the-5-biggest-problems-with-dune-part-2/?sh=16521e2613ce

"Not enough" because they simply can't do better, if it's not "weak acting", "poor cast", "miscast", "misfitted actors", I don't know how else to translate it to you.

And again, those are *not* "attacks", those are film critic reviews and personal opinions, you don't like them? Ignore, you don't have to reply to everything.

I have read the unfavourable review you suggested (at least the first one that is included in the quote above).

OMG! Use the internet, see tons of negative reviews. Those are *not* "attacks", those are film critic reviews and opinions, you don't like them? Ignore, you don't have to reply to everything.

Overall, nothing in that "C" grade film that deserves to be discussed that meticulously.

"The 5 Biggest Problems With ‘Dune Part 2’" by Erik Kain.

"1. The emotional connection does not connect."

"4. Dune Part 2 is too long and too rushed at the same time. And it ends too abruptly."

"5. The Harkonnens are just cartoon villains now."

Thanks to you, MSFN is now the “weak cast” capital of the internet

That's a very personal insult to everyone involved with MSFN. I don't agree with your offensive statement.

Triple-posting and quadruple-posting is another definitive habit of yours,

@XPerceniolmade his "triple-posting" in a row because each film belongs to a different genre.

    1 2 3

And no, @XPerceniol  doesn't look like one of "only half of your accounts", in my opinion, but several others unnamed profiles are.
