  1. I am pretty sure consumers will be blocked accessing to it lets wait first internet failure and see how long those band aid soluctions to voice over 5g or 4g data will last. Here we had that failing once and I was one few who was able to call still on "bad ooooooold phone". Reason to fail was network switch misconfiguration that also took down all internet connectivity. Everyone was happy ignore root of issue. What is worse goverment will move Viranomaisverkko which is tetra radio based network used to critical power plants, police, fire dep first aid etc. to 4G. That felt like bad joke first. They really plan rely all critical comms to publicly traded companies and wait until network is hacked or crashes. are you kidding me? They close 4g in states already too. We will return back to bad old days when cellphones had tall antenna you had to pull out to have any type reception and if you moved at all lost reception. 5G issue is was able make it drop to 4g on friend phone with piece of metal. Technology did complete 360 but as worse than before. I guess we are back to smoke signals or drums soon to communicate... I have made my decision. If they kill 2g I will go to HAM radio, those can be encrypted, are decentralised and wont rely central tower to work. I plan get radio amateur licence next year. I need it to be allowed use radio without traficom tracking me down and fine me.
  2. united states still got full 2g operational despite they claim otherwise. I got friend in states and he knows. They also said german had 2g shut down but apparently not.
  3. I recommend anything that got no replaceable battery, is spying you 24/7, is unrepairairable because those are you benefits. Ok not really just tired some actually thinking those are plus. Liberm 5 is decent but I would recommend fairphone more than it but US uses weird freqs . I also would recommend wait new Pinephone pro to come out. It can be basically used as small laptop with keyboard case it will have. Just because they cost wont automatically mean bad. Those are cheaper than flagship phones, but those will last longer than others and can service. Consider long term I got no smartphone, still got old nokia brick but that wont mean i wont have experience with smartphones since many around me got them. I know one who got early pinephone and had change to mess with KDE mobile I think was what os was called. Pinephone pro will actual be better. Also swapped fairphone camera module once to one after it got beaten. I did not have say any cursewords while replacing module which means non as***** design. If want go maxium security and privacy use free and open source applications that been verified not to send unneeded requests, for example brave, firefox, waterfox and some other "privacy" browsers that are open source send lot of data from you to maker. For gaming I do not know. I never understood so called "gaming phones". I did want nokia N-gage as kid but that had actual commercial releases and not ad infested pay to win trash and had bluetooth multiplayer or GPRS (Watch out when parents found out your phone bill for doingn that). I never got one and grew past phone video gaming. I only play snake or memory game that were on 6110, nothing else. Investing tons to cell phones to play games is stupid for me. Also playing youtube wont need latest flagship hw. If you are watching youtube with android use newpipe that is less bloated
  4. you cant. Content delivery networks are from big companies like google and exist on many sites. Blocking connection to them with umatrix helps partially but decentraliseye does better job by redirecting code running on CND into local browser cache. In short CND is (from cloudflare) ironic they say improve security when it can risk someone site if main CDN is compromised. Instead of being compromised all does
  5. Latest version? Home or pro? You did not give it any change to internet access during setup? If you did that is issue
  6. decentraliseye, ublock origin, nss + umatrix on palememe based browser is good combination. Decentraliseye moves Content delivery networks into local system and can fight against this too is CND is used on attack
  7. I got northwood Pentium 4 whhich was 478 socket and it is actually very decent. My cpu runs at 50c max. Prescott was socket 775 and outputted lot of heat, but I never had too bad overheat with them. Maybe manufacture did same mistake as IBM once and left "peel this" sticker into heatsink
  8. You forgot smart speakers. Those create pretty good wiretap network, even if you wont have one neibour on could in theory listen trough wall
  9. I got nokia "competitor" to that on my collection (since it was compared with it sometimes). Nokia 6600 which was actually first phone I ever had. Was originally saved from dumpster I think (someone tossed away 600 euros smartphone back then just because small screen crack). It had VGA camera, Calendar, Bluetooth, Symbian S60, Java, Memory card, midi and vaw ringtones, sound recorder, camecoder and other cool things that younger me was amazed. That phone came out in 2003 and mine is 2004 firmware and someone had tossed it away in late2005/early 2006 I got other classics too like Nokia 880 (Reshelled Nokia 2110 mostly), Nokia 5110, Nokia 3210, Nokia 3330 (nokia 3310 with few additions to firmware), Nokia 3510i, Nokia 9300, Nokia e90 and list goes on... I got all for free by salvaging them from being recycled as "worthless" I like to swap my phone sometimes to play with something I would like to try from those oldies but goldies.
  10. I wonder how script and element blocking will affect to that. I block everything by default for safety reasons. As for fingerprinting feels whole HTTP (and HTTPS) is designed it on mind. User agent is good example. There is never use case to it. It is only used to part of fingerprinting, block you from accessing sites that are done by soydevs and other. Only real reason would be to use it detect what platform you try download program for but hey if you are dumb enough to choose from dropdown menu why are you downloading stuff to begin with? I guess I go to gopher or gemini protocols for good
  11. It is same problem on me. How many times someone said "let me send you that on whatsapp...oh wait you had that nokia thingy" when spoke to someone on phone. Having Whatsapp is not enough reason to move away from my old Nokia brick. 6110 is this phone. What is great on it despite being released in 1997 it got very good if not better reception than some newer handsets (external antenna), it lasts around 1-2weeks with third party 1200mah battery depending how much I call, it allows to have custom ringtone and caller groups plus mute calls based on group on profiles for example night I only accept family calls nothing else since they would not call me for no reason in middle of night. Many phones from same era had short battery life with beefier one than mine. If file is actually important email or FTP it to me, sending important files over IM client is bad idea since will get lost eventually to all useless messages. I have noticed that nobody bothers to call or text something pointless to me so win for me.
  12. Finding this stuff is hard for many users. I tried search XP compatible browser for long and most was either spam or article how XP got no supported browsers. That is one roadblocks. Second is not knowing there is "professional" XP community in MSFN that tries to extend life of the system. 99% of web response is do not use XP and nobody does use XP. For around 4-7 years I though that as well to be last person wanting use XP seriously and could see trough BS from XP. Then ended to MSFN and well here we are. Before I did not say anyone I had XP for serious use now my family and friends know I run XP and even 98 as day to day OS. Was fun explain dad about all softwares that were designed for XP. For me Pentium 4/Pentium M is minium to XP platform. I have run and actually currently got Windows XP (for 20th anniversity) running on Compaq Presario 5000 with 850mhz Celeron, but I prefer Pentium 4 for better multimedia performance with DVR card. I watch TV with my CRT monitor. I got 2.80ghz 478 socket Pentium 4 HT one for XP. That brought funny thing in mind long ago. I had change compare 1.2ghz Pentium 3 and 1.4?ghz Pentium 4 and performance was pretty equal in most tasks. Biggest different on early Pentium 4 was pipeline that in theory was faster on some tasks optimised to it. it might be Corporate edition since it did not need activation. I was able to obtain corporate edition CD and licence key from one place that tossed away old systems. Using corporate edition is sorta grey zone since eula does not permit even if it is genuine, but it would be worry if I had business and would end up having audit.
  13. You seem to be new here so welcome. Seems you made same decision as I did. Linux and other Unix like are path outside XP. yes. I have not found any good alternative to XP. Latest handbrake to XP fails to render lot of stuff.
  14. Well for me it is freedom of OS choice. And who is more stupid? Person who uses all latest products because newer must always mean better and all knowledge is based off what companies tell them or person who uses products they like older or newer and has done their own research for using equipment they like. When I said I am using Nokia 6110 from 1997 for phone and and got E90 as PDA I was not kidding. 6110 is sitting on desktop stand and e90 is syncing. I was able to tweak symbian accept modern SHA2 certificates so it can access email and other things (though limited to tls 1.0). There is community effort to keep any dead platform alive. I can understand someone using newer or latest Windows or latest smartphone, I got both on workplace. I do not care what someone likes until they start shove stuff down my throat insisting everyone use it and cannot respond any critic other than you are just <competiting company here> shill or stupid. Many of my friends run Windows 10 or 11 and they are fine with me running XP and I am fine for them running what they prefer. My friends actually respect my deciation of using what I like despite age of os/equipment. I have had multiboot with Ubuntu 9.10, Vista, Windows 98, DOS 6.22, NT4, Windows 2000 and XP on same machine. That was actually painful to do but got experience from dual or higher booting. Just running two different Windows versions is super easy. Give both them own partitions first install older one then newer one and newer one bootloader will see other Windows installed. I recommend hardening your browser. Disable webassembly, webrtc, install Umatrix and set it block all by default. It takes time to learn use Umatrix but it is very powerful tool for security. I use noscript as backup in case Umatrix would have exploit or wise versa I am young enough to keep uphill battle going. I have moved to penguin on some things like banking (actually did long time ago already) since Linux got less useless stuff that could result to security issues. For me Windows 8+ is big no no
  15. Well welcome to "stupid" XP user for rest of life club . I mostly use Windows 7 on deciated system as "modern" system to things like heavy render and some games and use XP as daily driver along with Windows 98. Windows 7 is way better option than win8+ but XP is better still for me. It UI made more sense and was more clear and offered to choose between classic start menu and new webby one, had classic and "Bozo the clown" theme and other. Last time I had BSOD on XP was due forcing non compatible driver. Only had some applications crashing but rarely needed reboot whole thing. Atleast it wont force update against my will to new build every so often and break all up unlike certain OS with two numbers and first is 1 and second is number before 1. I got DVR, Radio Scan, Radar, game support, emulation, office software, email support, multimedia support for my use cases and I could not be more happy with it. I can also sync my PDA (Nokia E90) with XP. I got desktop mostly and my XP laptop is HP Compaq NC6320 and second is Fujitsu Siemens C1320 and few others. You do not need all updates. I only got SP3, POS IE updates for TLS 1.2, Exfat update, Windows installer and NET frameworks needed to tuner and other software
  16. That is million dollar question. I could understand optimisation, but why on purpose move codebase away from supporting it. I guess part of it got to deal with Microsoft similar to making softwares depend on IE for no good reason and contract that required use atleast one Microsoft Internet Exploder api exclusive feature when using Microsoft utilities. I really would not be surprised if MS would do something shady again to push them use it. And at the end who needs cloud features on complicer? Good example of wide support is retroarch. Not it can only be used down Windows 95, but it can run even on PLAYSTATION 2. That console never had as wide homebrew scene as original xbox but is still ported to obsolete platform released in year 2000. And other devs claim they cannot give support to OS last updated in 2008? We are not talking about new software we are talking old software dropping support
  17. Ubuntu is rather bloated and got useless background junk (for me) like software updates that slows stuff down. Desktop does not matter it still feels like crawling Devuan Linux with XCFE or Mate is my way to go. XCFE can run fast enough even on Pentium 3. Second good is Salix OS which is slackware without need to pull hairs when installing software.
  18. you should add that link to first post too. That way finding links would be easier to newcomers
  19. This reminded me from Windows 2000 pro sp3 CD I salvaged once. It had scratch that apparently broke boot sector and tour. System files and bootdisk creator were fine so was able copy it then use NTLITE to burn in back in as bootable. I do not like use floppies to install it so that helped
  20. Well he left MS two years after vista release. Perhaps he though leave sinking ship
  21. Hardware until hashwell can run XP. Openoffice still runs under XP. More it is what you will choose. I chose use newer machine and linux to convert videos to H264, I wont browse internet lot outside small personal webpages and MSFN and who said you need latest versions from software. I am using dictonary software FROM 1992 still. Well I am from generation that started computing with Windows 95/98 and took until XP era to have their own machine. I was not lot on computer as child, rather played in my room or outside with siblings or friends. I still spend lot time outside. I know lot from computers due my personal interest on history of computing and other technology. I used lot of time virtualising, programming and other instead of gaming and did server upgrade to college IT LAB before left it and I am working with tasks that are generally meant for higher and longer trained than me just fine. So age really wont matter rather interest and experience. I had no way choose when I was born, neither does anyone else. I am surprised to see even kids today being interested from old tech and researching it. PS. I got no 286 or 386 but I got 486DX2-66 I run Windows 3.11 WFW on. It also got internet connection using serial port and virtual PPP modem. I am also running Nokia 6110 from 1997 as day to day phone (I really wanted one back then) and got working Nokia 880 from 1995 so I am more into old stuff.
  22. I will tell how I ended up to it I was using Windows 98FE quite while on dad computer until I got my own computer that had Pentium 4. It was custom build with Radeon 9800 (later Geforce 6800GT). First I was using Devils own Windows XP key and pirated CD before obtained legit XP pro CD and key. Devils own key was first XP key that leaked and was used by most pirated copies of XP. It was also showed on pic where guy had XP cd before launch with key written to CD-R. Nowadays I use genuine copy of XP XP opened me into digital media and accessories like mobile devices, cameras etc. WIA was heaven compared TWAIN to me. Sure ME had WIA, but NT kernel was more stable on me. Also I loved new shiny themes it had inlcuding "Bozo the clown" theme. It had few bad things like WPA and XP did tasks it supposed to and was daily drive for longest from any OS 98 having second place. When 2014 and XP eol data came I was surprised from hysteria. Everyone felt to think all hackers will hack all XP machines in day support end and staying on XP is stupid. One point I had break for using XP due life that point and needing of some annyoing software that needed newer OS. Later that was over thankfully and was able return to XP. After mozilla dropped XP support I though XP was done. I searched alternative browser and noticed Palemoon. I knew it was based on FF52 that was last working with XP and expected it to work with XP, but no. It was another we artificially block XP thing. Then I found Newmoon browser and later Mypal browser that proved they were lying that cannot run on XP. That point whole new world opened with XP to me. I am using XP daily and got 2x XP machines. One is my first PC ever with Pentium 4 2.80ghz, P4P800 mobo, 4GB DDR400 ram, Gainward Geforce 6800GT AGP (matches geforce ULTRA) 2x1tb hdd and ESI Maya44 audio card. It is hooked to 17" Mitsubishi Diamondtron CRT. Second is Hotrod XP machine with Intel Core I3 4330, 4GB ram, Nvidia 750 1gb, 2x1tb HDD, Sound Blaster Audigy RX, Happauge TV tuner, Radio card, Radar optimised Radio card to follow civil aircrafts. It got three widescreen HD monitors (20, 24 and 22 inch) and is beefiest thing ever. I will likely keep using Windows XP for rest of my life. Going to Windows advertising edition (8 or newer) is not option and Linux can never replace XP due compability. If there is community to keep Symbian alive pretty sure XP will have it own community too
  23. I have been waiting this day whole year. Windows XP turns in to 20 years old today. US launch was in 24.10.2021. Here video from it launch event https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KgOgjdY830 20 years really flew. XP was truly amazing piece of technogy and is still used thanks to MSFN. Today I will be only using Windows XP to celebrate it. Maybe everyone should share some when started using XP, how liked from it and if is still using and do you have plan use it on future Also funny note that XP is now old enough to legally buy strong alcohol drinks here
  24. welcome to near 2 meter tall guy with almost nothing being comfortable to drive club . I have same issue with cars. I guess today average height of person of lower so cars got less room. I have stuffed myself into Honda accord and VW jetta backseat (both are small cars already) and was worst experience ever. Second issue is to find clothes that fits. All XL clothes are meant to fat person not tall person mostly. That seems like nice car. How reliable engines were on those?
  25. we had no teletext games as far know but we had interactive TV games controlled by text messages from late 90s until 2013 or so. They were mostly done with java. There was things like Rantalentis (Beach Volley), Mikämikä TV-Visa (MikäMikä TV-Quiz), Puhuva pää (talking head) and Tellus. They were controlled with text messages that had command or text. We also had GSM-Nightshows that were SMS based chat. Puhuva pää (talking head) was my favorite. You were able pick either male or female voice synth and make head talk. I miss more simple days when there was other than constant advertising on TV "Good since that is consumer benefit to force them buy new equipment. Some just think it is harming but companies are your friend and care from your best." ok lets cut sarcasm right here. This is all about money. Here carriers refuses to activate voLTE on some compatible handsets that been approved on other countries. Why? To sell you new phone. Pretty sure even if you hack it LTE, carriers would refuse give you voLTE. Teleoperators should not be allowed have any phone sales for good reason. Also here Elisa started disabling 3g freqs. My Nokia E90 can no longer reach UTMS connction but works no issues on 2g. I use e90 as my PDA. When teleoperator decides to kill 2g and nobody offers it I will join @ArcticFoxie phonesless club for good. They killed landlines already so that is not option. Also sidenote back in 2001 Nokia was on YLE morning show talking from UMTS and how it is revolutionaly and wont need new soluction, but later 4g was announced and same was said. Now same is said from 5g, but they already develop 6g... This all feels nothing but milking from consumers. Soon we have 100g likely and it will need handset that costs more than brand new bugatti. Bad thing on 100g will be it useless to anything else than watching pictures of cats since wasn't that why phones were made to begin with. And whole thing collapsese because simple programming bug leaving whole world without internet or telecoms forever
