Avast Antivirus to discontinue new versions, but still supporting Windows XP
Chociu replied to sdfox7's topic in Windows XP
That's pretty awesome stuff :3 anyhow... yeah it's still good a company does provide definition updates for older systems to keep them going (and for both people and businesses that's a good thing) -
Realtek cards perform poorly anyways (aside from the RTL8192EU), I'd definitely go for the Atheros 500x series of cards which seem to be the newest and only WPA2 supporting cards for 98SE/ME.

Avast Antivirus to discontinue new versions, but still supporting Windows XP

@FranceBB Didn't you used to work for Avast a few years ago (or am i thinking of a different individual that was around xpforums in 2015) ? While I don't particularly like Avast in general (after the CCleaner incident) I do appreciate that they will keep it updated -
Root Certificates and Revoked Certificates for Windows XP
Chociu replied to heinoganda's topic in Windows XP
We're lucky MS didn't pull the plug early on POSReady 2009 after realising the patches could easily be detected on XP SP3 given how controversial they're still being with forcing Windows 10 down our throats... -
We'd have to get probably some thousands signatures for Mozilla to actually listen, though. Us 30+ people alone are not just the main powers and also, a lot of people believe the XP/Vista FUD that has been spread since Vista EOL and even before...

Mypal is the only usable one that has both a binary and portable option (important to me because I don't want IE as default browser), and works just fine for me, so I'll go with it! ^^

Can someone try it with JS disabled? I can load it on a PS3 just fine with JS disabled (if I use a proxy) which uses a very old and early WebKit version... Only problem is that I can't edit posts from there

I still buy CDs online, because I like to have a physical copy that I can rip to whatever format I like directly from it rather than either relying on wasting mobile data through streaming sites or resorting to YouTube rips from Russian MP3 websites... I have all but two of Feeder's albums for instance on CD

Nice to know and thanks for confirming! ^^

I don't understand why anyone would use such an old version of Chrome, Chrome is famously notorious for its CPU/RAM usage and general rot after a while of usage, even compared to Firefox... but I'll not judge... This experiment is quite interesting however...

@WinClient5270 Cool, thanks for that: I wasn't aware that I needed to change a different part for x64 Windows, it's not said in the tutorial.
-
Yeah, that'd be pretty awesome too! Seconded. Thanks for providing all these contributions at no cost... I owe it to everyone keeping XP/Vista alive in these dark times ^^

Same, I hardly ever use voice. And I wonder, should we have an unofficial MSFN Discord if enough people want it
-
DAMN... this is awesome! Thanks:D

Only use case would be metadata, which is impossible to retrieve in WMP9/10 since about late 2015. However if you like the Vista-like UI go ahead and install it (look for a patched LegitLibM.dll and unzip the EXE for WMP11 first).

I'm probably looking at the wrong browser bits setting then for my machine >_> I'll give it a try tomorrow, I am currently very tired ~_~

Hi, I applied all updates up to April 2017. I do have IE9 installed. I have also installed KB4019276 and the latest IE9 cumulative update. On Vista Home Premium x64, there seems no options for TLS 1.1 and 1.2 even after deleting or blanking out the OSVersion string, and apparently the only way to the enable is use group policy (which obviously isn't included). I did reboot after and nothing happened. XP x86 with KB4019276 and cumulative IE8 update works fine on a different machine. any help would be appreciated.
-
In @WinClient5270's tutorial you have to reboot after each update is applied; otherwise it just throws an "Unknown error" constantly. Also, related to TLS 1.2 updates don't bother if you use a version of Windows Vista that isn't have the gpedit.msc, because otherwise it seems impossible to enable it oddly...

Didn't know you could do that, even for specific sites, directly in PM. Pretty cool. I wouldn't be surprised if Discord is one of said sites since they said they don't care about XP/Vista compatibility at all and seemingly deliberately broke the browser version for Gecko 52 a month before FF57 came out. It took until PM28.2 for XP users to get a stable Discord experience since then...
-
See what I wrote in "Last Versions of Software" thread: that might fix your issues. Make sure you have the codecs added in NM. Be lucky Discord fixed their garbage related to deliberately blocking out Gecko/Goanna around the time the FF57 beta was released - and making the screen flash every 6 seconds as of PM 28.x...

@WinClient5270 they are trying to use the voice features, which require a specific useragent (one matching ONLY FF, Chrome or Opera with no other additions like "PaleMoon/28.2.1" in it) @Jaguarek62 try spoofing your useragent using any addon that can do so to Firefox 60 - Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; U; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0 and it might work.

Hello, Running XP x64 on here, alongside Vista and 7. I'm using a LG 32LD320-ZA LCD TV as monitor. I noticed HDMI Audio works in the latter two operating systems once the NVIDIA nForce drivers are installed successfully, however in XP x64, I have installed from WU (and also tested initially from NVIDIA site) the driver and it doesn't work properly (no audio, no option to select NVIDIA HDMI Audio, and only Realtek ALC888S is provided). The audio device does start, by the way. It doesn't make an error, it just starts and works but doesn't seemingly do anything at all. HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10DE&DEV_0002&SUBSYS_10DE0101&REV_1000\4&14F9C3BD&0&0301 is the instance ID for the NVIDIA HDMI Audio HDAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_10250153&REV_1002\4&14F9C3BD&0&0001 is the instance ID for the Realtek Audio 1.3.18.0 is the driver version for NVIDIA HDMI Audio 5.10.0.7111 is the driver version for Realtek Audio I can get sound to work via plugging into the speaker jack of the desktop and then into the back of the TV however the volume is incredibly low even when on the highest OS setting, I have to set the volume level on the TV to about 50 to get the same result as putting it on 20 in Vista/7. I've also tried disabling Realtek in the BIOS, which results in no sound at all. Not sure what I'm doing wrong? Is there some sort of known documented issue with NVIDIA HDMI audio on Windows XP x64? Any help would be appreciated. EDIT: I simply installed Vista SP2. It seems to "just work" in Vista's case after installing nForce drivers, so probably it's the drivers fault completely and that they never had proper support for XP 64.

I agree with it being pinned. It's a very useful resource. Does this contain all updates, or just those pertaining to post-SP2 & post-EOL? What exactly was added in terms of tweaks etc? I'd like to see a list before downloading and trying it out, especially as it gives a good idea as to why the archive is 3GB or so. Nice work however :D
