Hi all!
I've a few doubts regarding the usefulness of some components of network section.
In particular, I'm referring to H323MSP: is this component commonly used yet? Can I safely remove it?
Second, TAPI Application Support is marked red but if I don't need IP Conferencing, is it safe to remove or will it raise some issues?
Third, is Vector Graphics Rendering used in Web pages yet? Can it be safely removed?
Fourth, the real usefulness of Web Folders (namely WebDAV support)? Here is the list of the nLite network section components:
Active Directory Services
Client for Netware Networks
Communication Tools
Control Test Terminal Program
Connection Manager
Dial-up and VPN Support
FrontPage Extensions
H323 MSP
Internet Connection Wizard
Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer Core
Internet Information Services
IP Conferencing
MAC Bridge
Map Network Drives/Network Places Wizard
MSMail and MAPI
MSN Explorer
Netmeeting
NetShell Cmd-Tool
Network Diagnostic
Network Monitor Driver and Tools
Network Setup Wizard
NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Protocol
Outlook Express
Peer-to-Peer
Share Creation Wizard
Synchronization Manager
TAPI Application Support
TCP/IP Version 6
Vector Graphics Rendering
Web Folders
Windows Messenger
This is the list what I would like to take out: Client for Netware Networks, Communication tools, FrontPage Extensions, H323 MSP, Internet Information Services (IIS), IP Conferencing, MSN Explorer, Netmeeting, NetShell Cmd-Tool, NWLink IPX/SPX/NetBIOS Protocol, Outlook Express, TAPI Application Support, Vector Graphics Rendering (VML), Web Folders, Windows Messenger.
Would you suggest some changes on my list? Something to add because of its irreversible uselessness or something to remove because of its usefulness that I didn't see.
Thanks for your precious tips!0 -
Been away for a few months... but now I'm back!
Thanks for your precious suggestions! I'm trying to go ahead with my personal installation disc, but with less and less time available...

Pllease, any add-on for these programs?

Again, add-on somewhere on the internet?

Hi guys!
I'm always dealing with nLite for my WINXP installation disc and I have some doubts on the multimedia components.
Many people suggest to remove all (or almost all) the components in black in this section, leaving only the red ones (very few, just 4 to be precise). Here is the list:Acm Core Codecs
Active X for Streaming Video
AOL ART Image Format Support
DirectX
DirectX Diagnostics Tool
Images and Backgrounds
Intel Indeo Codecs
Luna Theme
Media Center
MIDI Audio Support
Mouse Cursors
Movie Maker
Music Samples
Old CD Player and Sound Recorder
OpenGL Support
Speech Support
Tablet PC
Windows Media Player
Windows Media Player 6.4
Windows Picture and Fax Viewer
Windows SoundsI was thinking of leaving Acm Core Codecs, Direct X, Images and Backgrounds, Intel Indeo Codecs, Media Center, MIDI audio support, OpenGL support, Tablet PC, WMP (using the last WMP add-on, do I need to keep both WMP and WMP 6.4?), WPFV and Windows Sounds. Would you add something else to this list? Or would you even remove 1 or more components from this short list? Why?
I intend to remove, within others, Active X for streaming video and AOL ART Image Format Support but I actually don't know whether they can be really necessary nowadays. What do you think?
I was then wondering whether there's an add-on that could replace "Movie Maker". Any suggestions?
Finally, are there 1 or more codec packs outhere? What about K-Lite codec pack add-on? Can it replace 1 or more components in the multimedia section? Please suggest any useful add-on regarding codecs and related stuff.

Hi everybody!
I'm trying to create a slim installation disc of WinXP Pro X86 and I need some good advice on hardware support.
NLite presents a list of items (that follows), many of which are in red (just 8 in black). I know that red items are considered important/critical items but many people smoothly remove them without experiencing any problem later. Here is the list:
AGP Filters
ALI 1535 SMBus Host Controller
ALI IDE Controller
AMD IDE Controller
ATM Support
Battery
Bluetooth Support
Brother Devices
CMD PCI IDE Controller
CPU AMD
CPU Intel
CPU Transmeta Crusoe
Firewire (1394)
Firewire Network Support
Floppy Support
Gravis Digital Game Port
IEEE 1284.4 Devices (Dot4)
Infrared
Intel PCI IDE Controller
Iomega Zip Drive
Joystick Support
Logical Disk Manager
Microsoft Color Management (ICM)
Modem Support
Multi-port serial adapters
Multi Processor Support
PCMCIA
Ports (COM & LPT)
Printer Support
Ramdisk
Secure Digital Host Controller
Smartcards
Sony Memory Stick
Teletext Codec
Toshiba PCI IDE Controller
USB Audio support
USB Ethernet
USB Video Capture devices
VIA PCI IDE Controller
Video Capture
Windows CE USB Host
Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
Now, considering that my WinXP disc is aimed to be as "universal" as possible, I'm willing to remove at least Gravis Digital Game Port and Iomega Zip Drive. But I have some doubts concerning other 2 items in black characters: Teletext Codec and Windows CE USB Host. Are they normally of any use?Could I safely remove them?
Someone has taken out many red items such as bluetooth support, firewire (1394), firewire network support, infrared, sony memory stick, Toshiba PCI IDE Controller, etc., etc. Could you please suggest any red item that, in your opinion, is scarcely useful or completely useless nowadays (even though my disc, as said before, should be universal and then include as many items as possible)? Thanks in advance!

Operating system options and possible issues
in nLite
Posted
Hi all!
I'm dealing with operating system options and I need to clear up a few components, most of which marked in red.
First, nLite suggests to remove Command-Line Tools because of possible worm and viruses but someone claims that these tools could be very useful sometimes. Personally, I've never used such tools. Have you ever used those tools? Do you think they could be really useful?
Second, by removing File System Encryption I should be still able to install another tool like TrueCrypt. Is there an up-to-date addon for TrueCrypt? Or would you suggest a better encryption tool?
Third, many remove Help and Support but I would like to remove Help Engine too (specifically needed for Help and Support). Will I encounter possible issues?
Fourth, many remove Out of Box Experience and I would like to do the same. I have XP Pro and Home with activation codes (underneath the laptops). If I insert them in the specific nLite section, will I still need to activate Windows?
Follows the whole list all of options:
.Net Framework
16-bit Support
Administrative Templates
Administrator VB Scripts
Application compatibility patch
Auditing Compatibility Patch
Auditing Resource Dlls
Blaster/Nachi Removal Tool
Certificate Management
Color Schemes
Command-Line Tools
Desktop Cleanup Wizard
Disk and Profile Quota
Disk Cleanup
Document Templates
Dr. Watson
Extensible Storage Engine (Esent97)
Extra Fonts
FAT to NTFS Converter
File and Settings Wizard
File System Encryption
File System Filter Manager
Format Drive Support
Group policy Management Console
Help and Support
Help Engine
IExpress WIzard
Input Method Editor
Internet Explorer Core
Jet Database Engine
Local Security Settings
Logon Notifications
Manual Install and Upgrade
MDAC
MS Agent
MS XML 2.0
Out of Box Experience (OOBE)
Private character Editor
Remote Installation Services (RIS)
Search Assistant
Security Center
Service Pack Messages
Shell Media Handler
Symbolic Debugger (NTSD)
Tour
User Account Pictures
Visual Basic 5 Runtime
Visual Basic 6 Runtimes
Visual Basic Scripting Support
Web View
Zip Folders
This is the list of the components I would like to remove: Blaster/Nachi removal tool, Command-Line Tools, Desktop Cleanup Wizard, Disk Cleanup, DR Watson, File and Settings Wizard, File System Encryption, Help and Support, Help Engine, Manual Install and Upgrade, MS Agent, Out of Box Experience (OOBE), Private Character Editor, Remote Installation Services (RIS), Search Assistant, Security Center, Shell Media Handler, Symbolic Debugger (NTSD), Tour, Web View.
I'd really appreciate any suggestion regarding possible components to include in my list (and remove from XP) or even to take out (because I might encounter future issues).
