  1. Compatibility issues kills operating systems, not security updates at least for home users.  @Jody Thornton XP will probably hang on long because there is so much hardware support for it.  Like that may sound silly but XP will run on pretty almost any hardware between 1999 and 2014 or so in there somewhere. 15 years of hardware is a long time in our small life spans.  The software library that will run well on it is even larger.  And like any CPU that is at least a core 2 duo or maybe even a Pentium M and later still have life left in them, but not really pentium 4s those are pretty much trash these days.

But ya browsers will kill it for the most part.

  2. I have to agree about SM player, theres also a extension for SM player called SMtube which lets u search for youtube videos and play them in SM player with sm player.  It's implemtation is far superior to playing youtube videos in VLC also.  Doubt pot player even has that.

  3. Does this mean that someday we may have a fully working direct x 12 on win 7.

  4. Should get the hardware ID of your card using http://www.rh-software.com/ and mod the NVAML.INF file inside the driver package.  Add sopport to the INF for your specific card so the OS detects it and install the driver for it.

Look for the line that says %N%%29E%=N3GL,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_029E (this is the FX1500 entry) And you want to copy that and make a 2nd entry below it

Example %N%%29E%=N3GL,PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0000 where the 0000 at the end is what I added.

  5. I used real VNC enterprse 4.4.4 Client To conect to my XP and use a roytam1 browser.  Have clipboard sharing and copy pasta file support its all I need.  Best solution would be have some kinda thin client specifically for that purpose.  lets face it nothing will get developed to even be close to that good.  I have tried the kernelex 18 + kM 74 goanna and it doesn't come close to being acceptable even in a high powered VM.

  6. I doubt anyone is going to do that.  There is always slimjet and it is based on chrome 49 or 51 and it works but it is not being deveolped and so you will get nothing but errors running it.

  7. Ya There is also a posibility that you just have a corrupt windows install and there is nothing wrong with the AUDIO_XP_2K_050908.zip driver i gave you.  The fact that it installs but just gives you an errior is very telling to me that your windows install is bad.

It says it has 1 cardbus slot

You other option might be to go on ebay and buy a Audidgy 2zs pcmcia sound card and use that.  It will be way better than the onboard sound anyways and it has drivers wir win 98

they are getting harder to find, but prices have came down a lot see example.  https://www.ebay.com/itm/Creative-Audigy-2-ZS-notebook-PCMCIA/303070520633?hash=item4690692539:g:dr0AAOSw~-ZcbsRC

  8. reupped the 1st sound driver.  Ya that is a version that you said you had..But I am not certain you had the same thing.  That had WDM SE files and 9x hotfixes.  You might not of had the whole package. http://www.mediafire.com/file/yjr7bm7uwbsf6nl/AUDIO_XP_2K_050908.zip/file

between the 2 drivers now you should have somthing that you might be able to hack together to work.  Might require driver modding or inserting HW ids into infs.

PS you know you may have to manually install through the device manager..  Not run the installer.

  9. For the audio, everything I tried to find indicates to me that no one has got it to work.  However I don't beleive that it's impossible to hack the driver files for it to work.  This driver here is the oldest best driver I can find that has potential for it to work or be forced to work.  You will notice that there are a few 9x hot fixes in the root of the folder.  Make sure you install those.  There is a folder that says SE in the WDM folder  and I looked in the INI and it has a line with the same hardware ID as your adi, which leads me to beleive that its possible to make it work.  There is another hotfix I found that should be installed 1st before u install the other ones i beleive.

PS I found some other drivers that are not specifically for that hardware but for an older chipset.  That is option B. let me know if you cant make these work somhow

  10. Download SIV no need to take pictures of chips and visual inspect hardware. Download SIV and go to the PCI bus tab and paste the hardware IDs here.  http://rh-software.com/

the wireless wont work, u need to buy a Aetheros mini PCI or mini PCI-e card and put that in there instead. which ever slot it has.

Here is an example from one of my computers of what it looks like keys under "Vender-Dev-Sub_oem REV.  Then we can search those keys for the right drivers.  "PCI BUS TAB"
