Yes, Hardware Acceleration can make a difference. Maybe even the Just-in-Time (JIT) compiler. I have never done this verification. In my Edge JIT is disabled,I use the “strict” setting for security reasons: https://microsoftedge.github.io/edgevr/posts/Super-Duper-Secure-Mode/ Turning it on would probably make my Edge more responsive. In Firefox JIT is enabled. And I have never proceeded to disable it. Probably in this old article (with conclusion that will still be valid today?) you can see the difference: https://v8.dev/blog/jitless

Not only video. If a web page is full of multimedia content, even just GIF images you will notice a slowdown in Firefox compared to Edge. Slowdown that obviously extends to the entire web page. As I have already written this is well evident in the MotionMark test: Edge= 703.61 Firefox= 438.03 So,in my opinion, multiple tests contribute to defining which browser, among those we prefer, is the fastest.
-
Absolute values change. Firefox (125) is always falsely faster than Edge (73.31). So my changes to Firefox make this test useless, obviously when comparing multiple browsers + Firefox.
-
We each choose our preferred (default) browser based on many personal parameters. In my case, the first parameters to consider are: Usability Performances My next choice is: Security/Privacy It is not easy to determine which browser is the fastest among those we prefer. I modified Firefox to be faster. In fact on the “Speedometer 3.0” test it comes out faster than my Edge. But this higher apparent speed is not true. The rendering of media content is considerably slower than my Edge. And this is highlighted well on the test below: https://browserbench.org/MotionMark1.3.1/ I only know of one test to check the security of the browser. Unfortunately, it is an old test and one that currently shows only inherent security, so to speak. https://browseraudit.com/ A comparison of the results to the tests in my 2 installed browsers highlights that Edge (primary) is faster and safer than Firefox(secondary). Consider that each test should be taken for what it represents, just a test. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ If other forum members would like to recommend other tests they are of course welcome.

Resuming the transition to Manifest V3
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
Another approach to the MV3 + uBlock Origin problem is to use Brave Shields: https://brave.com/blog/brave-shields-manifest-v3/ Since it is not an extension, it is not bound to the transition to MV3. Although Brave developers assure to support some MV2 extensions even after June 2025. Considering that Gorhill will abandon the development of uBlock Origin for Chromium after June 2025,this extended support will be discontinued sooner or later. @NotHereToPlayGames A curiosity. Would your employers allow you to replace Chrome with Brave? -
Resuming the transition to Manifest V3

Forget Linux if you don't like it....you don't like it. Obviously from my point of view it is a missed opportunity to revive an old PC that with Windows 10 is like having an elephant as a brake. Edge is a very fast browser. Unfortunately, it is very, very difficult to configure as best as possible. Almost 80% of my security configuration lists the settings I had to change in Edge. And many of these settings are unmentioned because they act at the DNS level. -

Really? I wouldn't think twice about deleting Windows 10 and switching to Linux. Probably an xfce distro. A few years ago my daughter's old W.10 PC also had the same problems. I installed Xubuntu (but not dual-mode). -
Resuming the transition to Manifest V3
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
My curiosity is purely academic. From a personal point of view I have in Edge I have the policy “ExtensionManifestV2Availability” since it has been available,I know how to use DNS level network filtering in advanced mode,I know how to use adGuard Adblocker v.5.x in Hard Mode + TLD,if needed I know how to use uBlock Origin Lite integrating it not only with DNS level network filtering but equipping it with some extensions more respectful of its (scarce) privacy. In FF I don't have to worry about MV3. So I, too, can “sit back and watch the corpse of my enemies go by.” -
Resuming the transition to Manifest V3
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
From what I read here: https://github.com/ungoogled-software/ungoogled-chromium/issues/662 UG does not currently have "webRequest.filterResponseData()" API. So unless the developers implement this API from scratch......... I am also personally inclined to think that an MV2 webextension that is no longer in the Chrome Web Store will be disabled. Precisely because Google considers it no longer secure. Or at least that's their policy............................ It has happened before ( in Firefox) when the Speed Dial[FVD] extension was declared unsafe by Mozilla. The extension was removed from the store, and automatically disabled for those who had it installed. -

Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
It is clear that ALL installed MV2 extensions will be disabled,if not present company policy, even if installed from other sources. Otherwise it would be too easy............. P.S. And also the ability to install UBO from Github (for Chromium based browsers) will be removed presumably after June 2025,by Gorhill, just as it removed the ability to install UBO Lite in Firefox Github: https://github.com/uBlockOrigin/uBOL-home/releases/tag/uBOLite_2024.11.25.1376 -
Resuming the transition to Manifest V3
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
I did not quite understand what your “I was not affetted” means. Let's clarify the example in the article with another example of an extension, also MV2, that you certainly did not have installed on your PC: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/adguard-adblocker-mv2/gfggjaccafhcbfogfkogggoepomehbjl Do you see the button that allows you to install the extension? If you do not visualize it you have been affected. In this case,if not present, the browser version has nothing to do with it. Almost certainly at this stage (before the disabled extension is removed) it all depends on the UA. -
What do you think about the use of AI in web search engines?
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
Read this: https://malwaretips.com/threads/which-web-browser-are-you-using-and-why-did-you-choose-this.133883/ BOT mainly uses Firefox. It is terrifying that an artificial intelligence is “aware” of which browsers are best for its needs. I wonder what sensitive data an A.I. will ever have? What privacy/security issues will it ever have? -

If any forum members would like to check in with other Chromium-based forks and provide feedback: https://www.ghacks.net/2024/11/28/google-claims-that-ublock-origin-is-no-longer-available-for-chrome-but-that-is-not-true/ -
I disagree. This is my PC that I used until June/July 2021: https://www.wilderssecurity.com/threads/what-is-your-security-setup-these-days.111264/page-1637#post-2979834 Then the PC died and I bought this current PC. Obviously I don't install Windows XP on it (because I liked it so much) and then I go to research the features of modern OS and browsers. I first bend W.10 to my needs. Then as you wrote to each his own.

Privacy certainly. An obsessive and in some respects paranoid privacy. Security certainly not. I have probably sometimes addressed this topic myself but always as a response to someone. I really don't see security as an interesting topic for forum members.

Thank you my friend you made me smile. My time for games is over. And considering your nick name you are also part of the same "club" as me.

Some characters in this forum are full of (in my opinion erroneous) preconceptions that they repeat incessantly in every one of their posts. But their biggest mistake is not the preconception,it is the constant reiteration of it. By doing so,their personal opinion, right or wrong, ends up becoming unbearable. Meanwhile,I have lost the will to open (new) threads and now I am losing the will to even read other people's threads. What is the cure for this?

Do you use Policies in your browsers?
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
Policies may also be deprecated but they CERTAINLY have a higher survival/performance than flags. Use flags in Chromium-based browsers very carefully, the warning on the dedicated page was not made as a joke: I currently use in Edge: 11 flags + 2 Command Line Switches As of December 31, 2023, I had: 27 flags + 5 Command Line Switches Which obviously in this “short” time frame have been absorbed because they were enabled by default,or deprecated. My ancient Roman ancestors said: My security setup are posted on the "Wilders Security Forums" since the year 2013, all MSFN members can verify. -
Blocking port 80 via the firewall is not on topic, the topic is hardening the browser settings, because the user is using XP and I don't know if he is using XP's default firewall without outbound connection control. HTTPS Everywhere is an obsolete extension to use even in Thorium which has the setting to always enable HTTPS (which is obviously advisable). Detecportal.firefox.com,which you highlighted in the image, can be disabled in Firefox from about:config and you will see in about:networking that it is always set to false (0) so inactive When I wrote to the user in question he was NOT referring to FF but to any Chromium-based browser, quite equivalent to my Edge. P.S. You and other forum members can, of course, also continue to teach @jumper how to harden his own Thorium. It is not just my prerogative........ P.S. 1 If you want to test follow this procedure......but be very careful (I obviously will NOT be responsible for any damage caused by yourself):
-
If you have that much time, for me OK. Start showing me with pictures your settings especially the ones that you feel you need to harden. For example at the “javascript” setting I blocked in my Chromium-based browser all js from HTTP websites. This can also be done from uBlock Origin but it is better to do this from the browser because if you have to disable uBlock origin in a certain amount of time you are NOT protected. So start.....io wait.
-
I don't think it is possible to write (in a short time) all the parameters that you would have to change to get a more secure and private browser. If of course you are interested in that, otherwise it is indifferent. Also the settings of uBlock Origin are different in my Edge than in Firefox. You can see an example in the 2 screenshots below where I type in the search engine I use the same topic: FF: Edge:
-
This is the rule to be followed at all times.
-
@NotHereToPlayGames In the past, Firefox's sandbox was far inferior to Chromium browsers, now it has caught up. When uBlock Origin did not yet exist, using Noscript (not default settings) would have solved 90% of security problems even if Firefox was used with default settings (bad idea). But in this forum it seems to me that security is not important. You who use W.10 might also try (I obviously don't care much if you do or not) some alternative to Ungoogled: https://privacytests.org/

Ublock Origin Lite (MV3) vs AdGuard MV3 Chromium Extensions
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
With AG v.5.0.169 the ads blocker after reactivating the Service Worker works very well. No change instead for the scriptlets functionality. But I will not notify this minor problem. -
Ublock Origin Lite (MV3) vs AdGuard MV3 Chromium Extensions
Sampei.Nihira replied to Sampei.Nihira's topic in Web Browsers
If any forum members would like to verify the reactivation of the Service Worker after the browser suspension (which should be about 30sec by default) of AG AdBlocker v.5.x and UBO Lite this is the procedure I studied. https://github.com/AdguardTeam/AdguardBrowserExtension/issues/3040 Even though UBO Lite does not have the delay of AG AdBlocker v.5.x it is still subject to browser suspension. So any ads that you may notice for a few seconds while using the extension are due to this mode of operation. In MSFN, the UBO Lite slider must be set to full mode.
